Real name:Kara
45 y/o single yet still monogamous female of Nat/Am, Irish and German ethnic persuasion, short and round. Still have long hair, waist length, various auburns in color (as long as they make my shades...). May be curly (soon, again) or straight.
Hausfrau; stay at home "mom" to a huge menagerie. Love animals, well, 4 leggeds mostly and those with wings... Breed parrots, own sheep and goats, chickens, geese, fowl, etc...Sometimes show them in a County Fair for prizes.
A city girl most of my life, moved to the country then forcedly back to the city *temporarily* due to a housefire. Yearning to get back on our farm.
A lousy driver, so do your best not to drive near me. A fortunate one, tho'....too many accidents and have walked away (always sober, never wearing seatbelts). The last was in stop 'N go traffic and I managed to see the schoolbus go, but NOT when it stopped....hence my jeep truck stopped that day for good; *I* stopped for the next six months! Shattered my foot (aviator's fracture) which ended up being rebuilt surgically...and up in the AIR for six months mostly, to heal. THAT's where I came to be familiar with the Buffy-verse, pretty much. Thank God(s) for cable! BtVS played here at least two to 4 times a day I think, and Angel a couple daily, so I came to watch a LOT of TV during those months...and GOT ADDICTED to Buffy, etc.
Previously, I'd never done more than caught a few odd episodes, and didn't understand the lure of it. I caught the last couple seasons, off and on, of AtS, as my SO liked it. But, missed bits here and there.
My internal clock, used to sleeping totally THROUGH the a.m., reset itself somehow to wake me up a few minutes before 7 a.m. daily when the first ep of BtVS aired...the addiction is history, and now I thank God(s) for DVR/Tivo-like machines....don't have to miss eps due to appts, etc.
I think I've finally seen them all now, (and glad for netflix, etc as well in assisting that goal).....
So very belatedly, I'm a fan. My SO thinks I'm just reading the fanfic for the porn.
Which isn't a bad idea at 45 and over the hill.....(snicker)....
Left college as a senior in the early '90's (due to yet another in a long line of accidents and just didn't quite get back to it....life got in the way); majoring in history education. Assisted in the Communications/English dept and was a teaching assistant as well.
Worked in the shoe business for many years (yay---those of us old enough to drool at the mention of a pair of boots from "The Wild Pair"....it was the ONLY perk of working there, except my boss was my friend and could hardly fire me); went to school and earned a Nursing license in the state of Florida, which I maintain. Worked as a substitute teacher in inner city schools (yes, it IS that bad).
Worked as a dosing nurse in a methadone clinic in the same inner city in NE FL. The nice folks there WERE the junkies.
I've raised and handfed parrots and birds since the mid-eighties. Have owned as many as 400 at one time, appx., everything from little parakeets to large macaws and cockatoos. Yes, they descend from dinosaurs---just watch them.
Participate in living history and re-enactments, various periods. Less these days than in days past. Excel in the clothing particulars of specific eras, and making of same. ie, I can sew like a demon (can demons sew?) I can crochet "lace", and own a spinning wheel and can spin. Don't embroider or weave worth a damn. And what few things I can cook I don't encourage the word to get out about. Hate it. If somebody (said S.O.) doesn't feed me, I starve and lose weight...
Just found out I can access some of the stories on this site thru the browser on my cell phone (no more being bored while waiting at doc appts!) but now figure I'll be needing to up the browsing plan $$$....
I'm somewhere between non-religious and pagan. Actually initiated wiccan, but am also a godchild in Palo Mayombe and Santeria, work with spirit guides, past lives, auras and have seen dead people all my life (OK, now that y'all think for sure I'm out on a limb, just remember I DID walk away from all those accidents, which were real bang-ups...log trucks, school buses, flipping jeeps, etc ad nauseum....)
Mostly, it's just part of the lifestyle, or not.
Was drug to way too many crusades and revivals by my crazy mother as a child, including Oral Roberts, Jimmy Swaggart, Katherine Kuhlman, etc etc...Maybe all that laying on of hands made me this way.
My parents just pray for me and think I'm possessed. They're 87---they'll get over it.
Printed fiction, I'm a fan of Anne McCaffrey, and Laurell K. Hamilton (tho' she sure has taken a darken turn in her last few), Mercedes Lackey's elf stuff, and more, these days. TV/Movies, I like most of the current sci-fi, as well as the standards, besides BtVS and AtS, such as the Star Treks various, Star Wars, X-Files of course, and other small/large screen giants. Didn't care so much for Josh's recent "Point Pleasant" tho' I watched it to start, but it just didn't quite catch my fancy. Just finally saw Constantine. Haven't seen Hitchhiker's yet---my ex kept the copy of the original serial we had on tape. I'm old enough to remember all the jibber-jabber from/about it. Am waiting to see what happens in Star Wars III. I used to date a guy that looked like Luke Skywalker ( I won't comment on who I looked like).
Also an old die-hard Rocky Horror Picture Show fan. Used to play Magenta before old age set in.
My exposure to "Fan Fic" is minimal. Actually, I'd forgotton about it. Then one day, bored, I typed in "Buffy" on the browser on my cell phone....it came up with, of all things, a porno story about Buffy and Cordelia....so I got to thinkin', what was that fan-written and related media called? Drawing back on memories, I finally recalled the term "fanfic" and typed it into the browser, and, behold, a NEW addiction was born to me! I found this site.
In the past, I remembered my high school exposure to some mimeographed or copied ear-tagged and ragged copies of stories that other friends had shelled out for at Star Trek cons of the '70's. Some of these were run of the mill adventures with favorite characters, and the ones we giggled at were stories or illustrations of Kirk and Spock doing the funky monkey mattress dance....These were passed about covertly, hidden behind notebooks and folders, while we tried to keep a straight face on for the teacher's benefit, and pretended to be paying attention or doing classwork....while all the while our minds were, even with such limited amounts of available material, out in another universe.....
Finally out came a "professional" volume of fanfic---"Star Trek: The New Voyages" in which a few fan fic writers finally made it pro. Loved it, wore OUT that copy, bought it over again a few times over the years. Ditto, I believe, New Voyages II to a lesser degree. Then it seemed more and more writers began to write ST novels and stories, mostly to fit into the series timeline/universe, but a few "What if's?" and AU also crept in. I never noticed this fanfic to pro evolution, really, with other series, really, except that of fans in comic books (yes, I collected those too) that became pro-writers/illustrators over the course of time.
Exit late 1970's, enter late 1980's to early early '90's....Was of COURSE, a big fan of Beauty and the Beast (in my mind, tho' not compared to other con-going fans)....Bugged pals to get episode copies, borrowed and read or copied purchased fan fic, tho' only a few, relatively. At that time, realized that there WAS such a thing as fan-fic, but didn't buy much due to monetary constraints. Later forgot about fan-fic, mostly. In earlier
'net days, looked for RHPS (Rocky Horror) stuff as well as B&B stuff, online, only to find sites that charged large membership fees to read "scripts". Blew it off.
What else?
I have a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named Chaz, a chihuahua Goblyn, and too many cats (for which I have an affinity to "blue" ones, love bob-tails, but lost all my "bobs/manx's" in the fire), including Fat Maggie, Bruiser, and more, and yes, most of the time you can own cats and birds at the same time. Most of my birds can take a cat on anytime and win (of course, some outweigh the cat...)
I only have two piercings, my ears, but swear if I ever lose the weight again I'll do the bellybutton. My SO has a squirebrother, Alva, a Master Piercer, who has volunteered to pierce my nipples free just so he could hear me scream. (I think he'd have been amazed to have seen me at my last biopsy with 5 sites having 1 to 5 needles (sz3 equivalent I think, each) in each, and was NOT screaming.....) My hair was burgandy for a while during my mid life crisis...I have no tattoos, and am terrified to get one (tho' not quite as terrified as ever flying in an airplane, which I've never done).
I never have nails, always have anxiety attacks, am not bipolar---just have hormone flares and mood swings, for real, like to wear black or purple. But have days I like soft pinks and roses too. Dress de jour indoors in long nightshirt. Outside comfy slacksuit but most likely long T and tights or stretch jeans, with my Birk Bostons. In my last wreck they wanted to cut the shoe off my broken foot...I said "The hell you will! These Birks are $150 shoes! And as for my favorite jeans, I'll strip down right here on the highway! Not losing those either!"
I've studied Middle Eastern Dance for around 20 + years, and love it. Love the drums! I own an antique doumbek.
I live on my cell phone.
I'm a Pisces on an Aquarius cusp, but born prematurely, by nearly two months. I'm adopted, since birth, but have met my maternal birth family. My birthstone is Amethyst, which I adore, along with my ongoing collection of Amber, fluorite, and of late peridot (due to a ring left to me when my best friend died).
I am in a relationship, for 14 years, nearly, with my SO, tho' not married. (Listen to my teeth grit)...
Currently, when I'm not online here or via cell browser reading fervantly, I'm trying to learn about WWII history and culture, as I've recently gotten the bug to try WWII re-enacting here in FL. I have accrued most of the battle gear kit for a WWII era combat nurse, as well as hospital/Red Cross nurse.
I think I've spewed my guts out here and can't think of much else to tell....

Thx, bunches,
Brat
