Chapter One
Laughter in the booth across from her startled the slayer out of her thoughts. Her eyes shifted from her coffee to the teenagers across from her. They laughed and joked enjoying each other’s company. Buffy frowned, why couldn’t she be back in high school, enjoying her friends company and the love of her life… Angel.
It had been several hours since her argument with Angel the thought of his harsh words made her nauseas and she reached for the glass of water in front of her drinking it all down.
Was this really happening to her? Why was it, that Faith had so much control over her life, lately? The image of her sister slayer in the arms of Angel again, broke her to pieces, more than she wanted to admit. She came to a realization that maybe he had feelings for Faith, more than he admitted. What if he didn’t love her anymore? They were different people now. Too much time had passed. The more they were apart the more they started to forget. She couldn’t though she was cursed. No one would ever replace Angel, even if she wanted them too.
Sighing she reached for her purse and slipped out of the booth glancing at her watch. “Shit!” She mumbled noticing it was already 11:30. What was she going to do? She missed her bus.
Her eyes lowered and she fixed her shirt then paid the cashier. It looked like she was staying in LA for the night. Zipping up her jacket, she left the café turned right towards the main street and headed downtown.
Why the hell was she being so stupid? If she hadn’t been feeling sorry for herself she would be home right now, curled up on her bed watching TV and eating ice cream. Where was she going to go? She couldn’t go back and tell Angel that she lied and that she did love him. He would just turn her away and tell her to leave his city. Remembering her father was out of town a smile crossed her lips. She picked up her pace as she noticed the park ahead.

His dark eyes glossed over as he searched his surroundings, he slipped through the alley onto the quiet street. God he was so angry with himself. How was he going to get her to forgive him now? Angel winced at the memory, her harsh words repeating in his head.
‘I have someone in my life now. That I love. It's not what you and I had. It's very new. You know what makes it new? I trust him. I know him.’
Tears formed in the vampire’s eyes and he wiped them away and headed through the park to the corner pub. He wished he never sent her away. He had been so harsh to her, hitting her and telling her she wasn’t in his life anymore telling her to go. Why was he such an idiot?
Angel felt her instantly; his eyes searched the dark park falling on her small petite form. She was about a block away and two vampires were fighting her. Angel scurried closer to her stopping behind two bushes. His hearing picked up her soft voice and he watched her.
An annoyed look crossed her features and a devious grin formed on his lips. He watched her beautiful posture stiffening to her ‘I’m going to kick your ass look’ He laughed, he loved watching her fight, she hypnotized him.
“You really don’t want to mess with me tonight.” She punched the first vampire hard in the ribs and did a roundhouse kick, slamming the other vampire into the swing set. “I was minding my own business, not really caring what you were doing and you had to mention his name and piss me off!” She yelled gripping her small hand over the vampire’s throat.
“Angelus is always where you are slayer!”
Her fist cracked against his head and he hissed grabbing her by both arms and throwing her into a picnic table. Wiping herself off and standing up she dodged both vampires’ grasps, running over to the merry go round.
“Why does he always protect her? Is it because I’m not a bad girl, is that it?” She shouted and pulled out her stake creeping closer to them.
The vampires just growled lunging at her aggressively. She tripped the first one and jumped on the second one.
“I cared so much for him. Gave him my heart, my soul, *everything* I had!” A loud growl escaped her mouth and she landed on top of the smaller vampire. Her fists flung loosely, smacking his head back and fourth. “Why the hell does she always win? Does he love her?” A saddened look crossed her features and she plunged the long wooden stake into the vampire’s heart.
The larger vampire caught her off guard, slicing her arm with his nails. She hissed at the gash across her forearm, moving quickly around him she kicked him in the back slamming him against the swing set.
“I‘m nobody, that‘s right, he said I was nobody! “ Snorting she dodged the vampires blows. “I‘m the fucking slayer!” Her foot swung in front of her, cracking the vampire’s skull. “I’m the one who saves peoples lives everyday I’m not the one trying to kill them.”
Angel watched her, his soul cried out to hers and he held the tears that were starting to form. He couldn’t believe what an ass he had been. He said that to her not even realizing what it would do to her. Wishing he could take what he said back he moved in closer standing a foot away from them.
How could she feel like that or even think that way? Faith could never replace her, not ever. Yes, he loved Faith but it wasn’t that kind of love, it was a brotherly love. He cared for her and wanted her to be safe, he would protect her in any way that he could, even if it meant protecting her from Buffy.
What did she want from him anyways? It wasn't as if they were together. They weren't even friends. She had just broke his heart in a million pieces and she expected him to run and apologize for yelling at her when she had done worse to him. He knew that he would break, even though he didn’t want to admit it. Knowing that she was mad at him drove him crazy. He wanted her forgiveness and her love!

Buffy had forgotten about the vampire for a moment. Her mate’s angelic face took over her thoughts. ‘Go home’ He shouted.
The vampire caught her off guard, slipping his arm around her throat; his mouth inches from her neck. Angel’s face transformed and he was instantly behind the vampire. A roar escaped him that startled Buffy, he pulled the vampire off her, kneeing him in the head and taking a quick glance at Buffy before grabbing the stake out of her hands and dusting the vampire in front of him.
The vampire screamed and Angel’s dark stare caught Buffy’s nervous look and he glared at her angrily. “What do you think you were doing? Are you trying to get yourself killed?”
She shot him a disgusted look and turned walking away from him.
Angel was getting frustrated; he couldn’t bare the look on her face, his hands slipped into his pockets. “Are you okay?”
“I’m fine, really, just peachy!”
Her tone was harsh and he hated the awkwardness he was feeling. Trying to avoid the painful silence between them his thoughts shifted to her hair, it had grown since the last time he saw her. He had forgotten what she looked like under the moon. Her hair shone around her, making her face almost glow. He wanted to reach over and touch the silky soft strands. He had really missed seeing her.
He was glad she was there she seemed frustrated. Something must have gone wrong. Maybe she had missed her bus. He felt guilty for being happy that she was there, and for having the opportunity to enjoy her company a little longer. She had been the only one in his entire existence who listened to him, felt everything he did. If only he were strong, if he were strong, he would give up everything to be with her, to love her, to caress her, to take care of her. Fall into a ‘wonderful’ deep sleep where he never had to leave her.
“I’m sorry for yelling at you. I had no right.” His hand slipped into hers and he squeezed it lightly.
Her head shot towards him. His eyes glassed over and for once after he left, she saw his soul and she saw the love he once shared with her. She tried swallowing the lump in her throat but she couldn’t. His cool breath brushed her face and goose bumps covered her body.
“I’m sorry too. I had no right to act like that.”
A half grin crossed the vampire’s face and he leaned in, his lips brushing against her ear. “You’re allowed to. Why are you still here?” He questioned, she blushed and stepped onto the sidewalk, her hypnotic stare gazed across the loud city.
“I didn’t realize what time it was. I missed the last bus.” She tried to stay calm but her nerves were already shot from their last argument.
“The last bus leaves at 9:30 pm. You left the police station at 8:00, what happened?”
He intimated her and he could tell. She was trying to get away from him and he wasn’t going to let her, just yet. He easily kept up with her fast pace.
“I went to see my father.”
He could tell she was lying but he let it go. His hand pulled out of hers and he stopped taking a seat on the park bench. Her body turned to him, a blank look across her face.
“Are you in some kind of hurry? It’s still early.” His body shifted on the bench getting comfortable, he patted the seat beside him for her to join him.
“You’re asking me to sit with you? Why? I’m exhausted. I’m not up for another Buffy and Angel show tonight.” She snapped.
He stood, his posture stiffening, anger boiled within him. “Typical, Buffy you’re always running away.” Angel regretted what he said he knew it was never her running away, it was him, but he was so angry with her the words just spilled out. A long sigh escaped his lips and his head cocked to the side, his fiery gaze burned through her soul.
“Be safe.” He said turning away.
“Why did you attack me like that Angel, at the station? I was only there because I was worried about you.”
The vampire laughed as he moved in, his body coming in contact with hers. His hand brushed her arm before slumping back down to his side.
“You were jealous Buffy. I’m sorry she hurt you again, but she deserves a chance like everyone else. You couldn’t handle the fact that I was helping her so you decided to tell me that you’re in *LOVE* with someone else. Yeah I’m a little bitter right now, wouldn’t you be?”
The roar in his voice startled her a little and she moved around him, heading toward her father’s house.
“You were the one who wanted the space Buffy not me. You told me after so much time passed we would forget. Well I haven’t.”
The slayer glanced up their eyes locking.
“You know what kills me? Is seeing you,” Angel grunted and a pained look crossed his features.
“All I ever wanted to do was love you. I want to drown in you and I can’t…I’m not allowed, remember?”
The last words that came out of him hit her straight through the heart and she lowered her eyes away from him. Her breath caught in her throat and she gasped loudly. Glancing once more to him, she glanced down her old street and bolted away from him, running fast towards her father’s house.
She couldn’t do this, she couldn’t let herself fall again...Or could she?
What do you think?
