‘ What’s he doing? Why isn’t he leaving? He’s just standing there. He doesn’t want to go. I don’t want him to go. Oh God!’ Buffy stood and looked at the face of her demon lover she knew he was about three seconds from turning away, and as soon as he walked through the smoke she would never see him again. That was it. She ran as fast as her legs could take her up to him. He just stood and looked solemn. No expression. No joy. No anger. Just expressionless. He then shifted his gaze to look her straight in the eye and smiled slightly. “What are you doing?” he asked. She could tell he was trying not to cry. “It thought we agreed this was what was best for both of us.” He was being deadly serious now but his eyes where telling Buffy a different story. “I changed my mind, and besides…” she laughed, “Well you have often told me that your eyes are the gateway to someone’s heart. And looking into yours right now I can see that you never wanted to leave anyway” She stood for a minute stunned by how much she reminded herself of Giles then returned to reality and looked at Angel again.
He was smiling at her, proud that she had managed to come up with such an elaborate speech on the spot. True his heart was telling him to put his arms around her and stay with her forever, his head was screaming at him to turn on his heals and walk in the opposite direction. But then she spoke again. “You know now that I’m this close to you your never walking away. Well you can try but I’ll probably just hit you really hard lots of times until you change your mind.” Then they both feel into fits of laughter. Angel knew that he was a fool to think that the one thing In the world that loved him more then he loved her was going to just let him walk away. He just smiled, slid his hand into hers and walked her home
