Spike walked into Buffy's room, he would come there when she was at work, remembering all over again why he loved her, she was so strong, so pure it killed him to see her so hurt. But he could never deny her anything that would make her remotely happy. On her dresser was a poem, being a poet when he was alive, he couldn't help reading it the ink was smudged with tears, it read,
Save Me
Look into my eyes what do you see,
A hollowness a deadness,
that's all that's left in me,
I'm drowning in darkness,
Am I worth being saved?
I breathe in blackness,
My heart has caved,
I'm destroying you, I'm destroying me,
I can't love,
Why can't you see?
I'm selfish, I'm weak,
I'm not strong enough to say no,
You love me so much you won't speak,
Won't demand more, even though you deserve it,
Someday I'll be strong enough, but it will be to late,
What we had will be trapped in a never ending pit,
For now your all I have in this hell,
The only thing that keeps me from going insane,
Like an intoxicating spell,
I try to tell myself I don't care,
That I'm only using you,
But when I'm with you it's like I'm walking on air,
Without you I'd be lost,
I need you to save me from myself.
Buffy tiredly opened the door to her room before asking confused, "Spike what are you doing here?"
Spike didn't say anything, he only held the poem up, Buffy's face paled, "Did you read it?" She asked, her voice shaking.
"Yes," Spike answered looking at her as if she wasn't real.
"I'm so sorry," she whispered, tears running down her face as she ran out the door.
"She's not strong enough," Spike said to himself, him knowing she cared scared Buffy more than anything she had ever faced.
