“Unrequited”
Willow returned to UC Sunnydale.
Tara, having not seen her for what seemed like ages, ran to Willow and kissed her.
She and Willow made love that night, making eachother breathless. Tara soared.
‘Now’s the time, I think. Tomorrow, that’s when I’ll do it.’ She thought, beaming about the glorious and expensive ring she’d saved up for and bought for Willow.
She knew Willow would say yes, so she’d had the arrangments set and made. All Tara had to do was give the go-ahead and they would be wedded within the hour.
But Willow had other plans of her own.
Tara met her in their dorm room the next day.
She hid the box behind her back, and gathered her courage.
But Willow beat her to it.
“Tara? I..I need to tell you something.”
Her eyes brightened.
“Willow? I need to tell you.. ASK you something, too.”
“Okay um.. same time then?”
They did.
Tara thrust the box at her, lid open, and said, “Marry me!”
But Willow said, “We should see other people.”
Tara’s face fell.
“What?”
Willow repeated her sentence, kissed Tara on the cheek, and walked out of her life forever.
The ringbox clattered to the ground, unnoticed.
