“Before I begin class I would like to introduce our new student said Mrs.Cooper,
the history teacher of Sunnydale High. “He’s from Los Angles”, she glanced to a boy in
the back of the class. “Connor why don’t you tell us a little bit about your old school?,”
she said thoughtfully.
“Maybe some other time”, he replied.
“Well, we always like to get to know our students”, she insisted.
He looked at her with a cold stare.“I said, maybe some other time” he uttered through
gritted teeth. He ran his hand throughout his shaggy brown hair and checked his watch to
see how much longer he would have to endure this torture called school. He knew he had
to blend in with the other students...to get what he wanted.
“Ok then, I guess if you want we can introduce you a little bit later”, she said careful not
to further his anger.
“Yeah, maybe” he retorted sarcastically.
Before anyone could say anything else the bell rang. School finally ended. He threw his
bag over his shoulder and hurriedly walked out of the classroom.
“Hey....wait”.
He heard someone calling him. He turned around and looked through the crowd of
people, a girl approached him. She had long brown hair.
“Hey” she said. “I’m Dawn Summers”
He smiled. He knew from the moment she stated her last name that he had just met one of
the people he knew he needed to know to carry out his plan.
“I know what a pain teachers can be about making a student introduce themselves, I’ve
seen it happen a million times.” She smiled as she adjusted her bookbag onto her shoulder.
“A million and one” he said with a grin.
“I guess so” she laughed. She looked around the hallway and then at Conner. “Well I was
thinking.” Which never really is a good thing, she thought to herself. “That maybe you
would want to come to my house after school tomorrow.... to study....big history exam
coming up and all.”
“Sure” he said.
“Great, my sister can drive us... she’s the guidance counselor.”
He nodded.
“Well I guess I’ll see you tomorrow.” she smiled as she walked away.
He waited until she was gone and walked down towards the guidance office. He glanced
in the office. Buffy already left. He looked at her nameplate. Buffy Summers, he thought
to himself. He smirked as he turned to exit the building. This should be fun, he whispered.
The next morning in the car on the way to school Dawn asks Buffy about her “friend”
coming over after school.
“You wait to tell me this now?” Buffy snapped.
“Sorry” Dawn looks out her window, escaping Buffy’s “sister”look.
“It’s okay.” Buffy calmly said. “What’s her name?”
Dawn was silent for a moment and then said “well, it’s not so much a her...as it is a him.”
“A him?” Buffy asked as if she didn’t here Dawn correctly the first time.
“Yeah” Dawn said, wondering if she were truly crazy for asking Buffy if she could bring a
guy home. “And I also kinda hoped you would give us a ride home.”
“Let me get this straight.” Buffy said grinning as if this conversation was some kind of
joke. “You want me to allow you to bring a boy home I’ve never met and be you
chauffeur?”
“Sort of... he’s new and we were going to study for a history exam”
Buffy rolled her eyes “great... he’s new, he could be anything”
“Yeah maybe human” Dawn said cynically.
“No, I know how the boys are here, they’re either dead or really dumb.”
“Why do you think everyone’s evil?” Dawn asked,
“I don’t think everyone’s evil.... just most everyone, especially new someone’s who by the
way, I have never met.”
“You will meet him after school.”
“I’m calling him into the office for a little “new student” conversation.
“No, please don’t, it’s not like he’s some monster you can scare.”
Buffy pulled into the school parking lot.
“I don’t want to scare him.... but I’m willing to make that moral sacrifice to protect my
sister.” Buffy smiled and said “Plus I’m the counselor I’m supposed to scare kids....it’s my
job.”
Dawn angrily got out of the car and walked away.
As soon as the second period bell rang Buffy got on her computer and looked up all the
new students within the last three days. Lets see what we have here, she thought to
herself. “One new student that narrows my search down.” “Conner, with no last name.”
“How can someone not have a last name and be human?” “Okay computer where can I
find this Conner?” Buffy searched on her computer until she found Conners schedule.
“Here we go, second period English.” She cleared her computer and got up from her desk.
She walked down the hallway towards the English classroom Conner was assigned to.
She knocked on the door and peered inside. “Excuse me I do you have a student named
Conner?” Buffy asked.
“Oh, you mean the new boy?” “He didn’t come to school today, I figured he was sick.”
The teacher said nothing else and continued teaching.
“Thank you.” Buffy mumbled. She closed the door quietly. Good, she thought no
boy....no boy problem.
When Buffy got back to her office she picked up the phone and called Xander.
“Hey Xand, I was wondering if you could pick Dawn up after school?”
On the other end of the phone Xander looked around and saw a lot of work needed to be
done at the construction sight.
“Well.....is something wrong?” he asked.
“No, nothing wrong but I was going to take the rest of the day off, these kids aren’t
asking for much guidance lately.”
He thought about it a minute and figured he could get someone to cover for him.
“Sure Buff...but I could be a little late,” he said.
“Thanks” She hung up the phone without giving it another thought. “The rest of the day
is mine.” She said out loud as she left the office.
Connor arrived at school just in time for History. When school was over he waited for
Dawn outside of the classroom.
“Hey” she said. “I didn’t see you at lunch today.”
“I came to school late, I missed the bus.”
They approached the guidance counselors office...which was empty.
“Damn” Dawn said. “She’s gone, I guess we can always walk”
“I’ll be right back then we can head for your house.” Conner said as he walked in he
direction of the bathroom.
He checked all of the stalls to make sure he was alone. He pulled up his pants leg and
adjusted his knife....in case he needed it. As he walked out of the bathroom Xander came
down the hall. “Ready to go?” he said to Dawn.
“I didn’t know you were coming... we were going to walk.”
“Buffy didn’t tell you?” he asked. He thought a second and then said “Wait...we...who’s
we?”
She turned to Conner. “This is Conner he’s new, we were going to study at my house.
"Buffy said it was okay.”
Xander eyed her suspiciously.
“Well I guess we better go then.” he said. He let Dawn and Conner walk in front of him.
When they got into Xander’s car Dawn sat in the back seat with Conner. Before driving
off Xander took a long look at Conner. He looks familiar, he thought to himself.
“Where are you from.” he asked.
“L.A” Conner said.
Xander didn’t respond. He started the car and drove off.
When they got to Buffy’s house her car was home so Xander just dropped Dawn and
Conner off. When they opened the door Buffy was just walking down the stairs. She
stopped and looked at Conner. There was something about him that wasn’t right she just
felt it.
“Hi, this must be Conner.” she said in a cheerful voice and then she got serious and said
suspiciously “where were you second period today?”.
“He got to school late” Dawn defended him.
Buffy rolled her eyes. “Fine, but stay in the living room.” She turned to walk away.
“Buffy it’s not like we’re going to set the house on fire or something, you don’t have to
supervise us.” Dawn wined.
Dawn and Conner turned to go upstairs, Buffy watched them until they were out of sight.
Dawn led Conner into Willow’s room. He threw his bag next to the door.
“Nice room.” he said.
“Thanks.”
Dawn told Conner Willow’s room was her room, because she felt her room was uncool.
Downstairs Buffy thought of all the possible things that could be wrong with Conner. She
just knew there had to be SOMETHING wrong with him.
“I’m hungry.” Dawn said. “Do you want to go get something to eat?”
“Yeah, sure.” Conner said standing up and setting his books aside. He followed Dawn
downstairs leaving his bookbag in the room.
“Where are you going?” Buffy asked with her hands on her hips.
“Out.” Dawn answered.
“Be more specific.” Buffy said continuing to stand in front of the door.
“We’re going to get something to eat.” Dawn said, placing her hands on her hips imitating
Buffy.
Buffy took a deep breath and stepped out of the doorway.
“Be back before dark.” Buffy shouted to them as they were walking away.
Buffy went in the kitchen and sat at the table.
“Bring a boy home I know nothing about, and leave with him, why did I let her go?” She
wondered out loud.
“Let who go?” Willow asked as she took off her jacket.
“Hey Will, didn’t here you come in..... Dawn I let her go off with some boy.”
“Any specific reason she shouldn’t have gone off with this boy?” Willow questioned.
“I don’t know, I just have a bad feeling about him.” Buffy responded.
Willow thought for a second. “Well, it’s daylight and he’s not bursting into flames.”
“That’s a plus right?”
“I guess.” Buffy said.
“Do you want me to go get her?” Willow offered, grabbing her jacket, prepared to put it
back on.
“No.... no that’s Ok, she’ll come back soon.” Buffy smiled.
“So your just going to sit in here and worry?”
Buffy looked up at Willow. “Yeah”
“Okay then I’ll worry with you.” Willow said sympathetically, as she sat down at the table
with Buffy.
“Thanks.” Buffy uttered.
“Oh” Willow said excitedly. “I got the cutest sweater yesterday.”
“Out of my closest?” Buffy grinned.
“No, not this time.” “Let me go get it...don’t worry too much without me.”
Before Buffy could reply Willow rushed up the stairs. When she entered her room she
noticed Conners bag. She crouched down and unzipped the front pocket.
“Hmmm.” She thought.
“What do we have here?” She lifted a small picture from the bottom of the bag.
“Oh god.” She whispered to herself. She quickly put the picture back into the bag. She
placed the bag exactly where she found it and walked down the stairs and into the kitchen.
She sat down at the table with Buffy. Buffy looked at her strangely.
“Where’s the sweater?” Buffy asked.
Willow completely forgot about the sweater.
“Right... the sweater.” “I’ll be right back.” She said as she got up from the table and
headed up the stairs for a second time. She quickly grabbed a light blue sweater from her
closet and hurried down the stairs.
“Here it is.” She said.
“Ohhh nice, don’t be surprised if it suddenly comes up missing some time in the near
future.” Buffy said smiling. “You know...I feel better, she’ll be just fine.” “I think i’ll
enjoy some chocolatey goodness.”
Willow sat down and looked up at Buffy. “I need to tell you something.”
“What is it, Will?” “It’s not like you to delay a sugar rush.”
Buffy looked over at Willow and saw the serious expression on her face.
Buffy’s voice got serious.
“What is it, Will?” “You know you can tell me anything.”
“We have to get Dawn.” Willow thought a second, “No we can’t get Dawn because then
he’ll know.” she said panicking.
“Who will know?” “Will, what’s going on?” Buffy moved closer to Willow.
“Conner.” Willow said.
“I KNEW it.” “He’s a demon, or an un-dead type thingy.” Buffy declared.
Suddenly the triumphant look on her face turned grim.
“Oh god....he’s a demon, or an un-dead type thingy, with Dawn.
Buffy looked at Willow.
“How did you know about Conner?”
“I....um....well...I have to use the phone.” Willow sprung from her seat at the table and got
the phone. She dialed Fred.
“Hey Fred, we kind of have a situation here.”
“What’s wrong.” Fred asked while organizing files at Angel Investigations.
“Conner, is here.....with Buffy’s sister.” Willow whispered.
Fred dropped a pile of papers.
“Is everything all right?” Angel asked in the background.
“Yeah fine.” she said.
“Willow I don’t know what to do.” she whispered. “Should I tell Angel?”
“I think your going to have to.” Willow said.
“Ok I will.” “I’ll call you back.” Fred hung up the phone.
“Tell me what?” Angel asked as he walked up behind Fred.
“Well....it’s about Conner.” “And Buffy.”
“WHAT about Conner and Buffy?” “Who was that on the phone?” He asked taking a step
towards her.
“It was Willow, she said he was there.”
“What does that have to do with Buffy?” He took another step towards her.
“He’s with her sister.” She said nervously.
“Call Willow back.....tell her we’ll be there soon.” He said.
“All of us?” she asked.
“Yes, were taking a little road trip.” “Tell her not to let Conner see her because he knows
who she is.” “Tell them to play along until we get there.”
He walked towards the door.
“I’m going to get the rest of the gang.”
Fred called Willow back.
Willow had been standing by the phone the entire time, trying to find a way to tell Buffy
who Conner really was.
She picked up the phone. “Hello.”
“Willow, I told Angel.”
“What did he say?” Willow asked.
“He said were going to Sunnydale.”
“And not to let Conner see you because he knows who you are and, tell Buffy to play
along until we get there.” Fred paused. “You did tell Buffy didn’t you?”
“Well.....no.....what am I supposed to say?”
“Just tell her the truth, but I have to go now......we’ll be there soon.” Fred hung up the
phone.
Willow hung the phone up and turned to Buffy.
“This isn’t easy to tell you Buffy, that’s why I’m going to show you.”
Willow led Buffy up the stairs and into her room. She opened Conner’s backpack and
took out the picture she found earlier. She handed it to Buffy.
“It’s Angel and Cordilia and a baby.” Buffy thought to her self a minute and then said
“ANGEL AND CORDILIA HAD A BABY!!”
“No.” Willow said.
“Oh......yeah well obviously.....he’s dead.” Buffy looked up at Willow.
“So.....whose baby is it?”
“Its Angels baby.....exept he’s not a baby anymore.”
Buffy looked amused for about two seconds and then the idea of Angel really having a
child sunk into her head.
“Who’s the mother?” she asked with tears in her eyes.
“Darla.” “She was brought back.....and then things happened and there was a
prophecy......so that’s how he achieved the miracle of a son.”
“Where is she now?” Buffy asked.
“She staked herself.”
Buffy didn’t respond.
“Are you okay?” Willow knew it was a stupid question to ask but she asked it anyway.
“What do you mean he’s not a baby anymore?”
Willow turned towards Buffy.
“He was kidnapped when he was a baby, by a vampire hunter. They both got sucked into
a hell dimension. When they came out he was halfway through puberty. And daddy’s not
his favorite person at the moment. ” "He figures if he wants to hurt Angel, he must hurt something Angel cares about."
"Why is he with Dawn?" Buffy asked.
"I guess it was an easy way to get to you."
“What’s his name?” Buffy wondered out loud, because she hadn’t put the puzzle pieces
together.
“Conner.” Willow said.
“Conner, as in the, he’s with my sister right now Conner?”
“Yes.” “Angel coming soon....but until then he said to play along and act like nothings
changed.” “Don’t let Conner see me.”
Buffy looked confused. “Why?”
“Because he knows me.”
Buffy stepped back from Willow. “You knew and you didn’t tell me?”
“Buffy, I didn’t want to hurt you.”
Downstairs Dawn and Conner walk in the door. Dawn doesn’t here Buffy and Willows
conversation. But Conner overhears due to his excellent vampire hearing.
Dawn walks into the kitchen
Buffy gave the picture back to Willow.
“You didn’t want to hurt me?” “It would have been nice if I was clued in when my
ex-lover slash vampire HAS A BABY!”
Conner panicked, he went into the living room and picked a book up off of the shelf. He
read the first thing he could see.
“yas tash kal te par suq.”
Angel, Fred, and Gun bust in the front door. Angel looks over at Conner and sees the
magick book.
“What did you do?” he yelled.
Buffy and Willow came down the stairs.
Buffy looked around a second and then she said
“Who are all of you people?”
Conner laughed. “Oops.”
