Buffy The Vampire Slayer > BTVS - Season Two
A Different Perspective by Kali
[Reviews - 1]

The vampire stood in the shadows watching the drama unfold. Rats scuttled around her feet on business of their own, ignoring her.

She had been lucky, she had realised just in time that the Slayer was coming. However, her companion was not so fortunate.

Although she had been a vampire for over 100 years, this was the closest she had ever been to a Slayer. She could taste the fear in her mouth. There was nowhere for her to run, if the Slayer saw her she was finished.

The vampire wondered what it would be like to die. Maybe it would have been like the change, she had certainly seen her life flash before her eyes then. Of course, life had been simpler then. Not like now. What would life be like if she hadn't gone to the well that night. If she had stayed indoors like her Grandma had warned her to. Then she had been called Lillith, now she had no name.

A sudden movement returned her mind to the present. The Slayer had cornered the other vampire and was slowly moving forwards. In her left hand was a evilly pointed stake. The Slayer swung it idly backwards and forwards. Both vampires eyes were focused on it.

The Slayer smiled. Lillith realised that she was quite pretty. No wonder her associates wanted her out of the way. She could turn a vampire's head. . . as her collegue realised to his cost. No matter, she was still free, maybe she could alter the balance to her favour.

"Why do you bother?" the Slayer said. "Don't you realise you can't suprise me."

Her hair shone like gold, reflecting the light from the single streetlight in the alley. It reminded the vampire of daylight. It also made her shudder.

Time seemed to have slowed down. Neither the Slayer or the other vampire moved. this gave the vampire plently of time to size the Slayer up. She was slim, which hid her strength; quite small but very determined and seemingly annoyed at having to slay the vampire. Very different to the previous Slayers. However, there was something about her which was reflected in all the other Slayers she had seen, she couldn't quite place it though.

The cornered vampire wimpered quietly. He knew that this was it. This Slayer was strong; she was also very young, no more than 17 years old. how could someone so young be so powerful? Lillith knew that this Slayer would be no pushover, the fact they had been surprised showed that.

They were the best. Vampire assasins. This time, for the first time they had failed. She knew that whatever the outcome she was dead, if the Slayer didn't get her first the Master would. He expected the best from the best, he would not tolerate this fiasco.

The Vampire was backed against the wall, the seconds ticked down.

"I would waste time and be witty about now, but I have trig homework to do and i just can't be bothered."

The Slayer lunged forwards and the vampire heard the sound of the stake puncturing the flesh and a whoosh of non-sound then he was gone. Dust swirled down to the ground where he had stood.

The Slayer stood there for a moment watching the dust then turned on her heel and walked out of the alley. Lillith couldn't believe her luck. She had survived, but her mission was still a failure. She crouched in the shadows torn about what to do. She couldn't fight the Slayer alone and she couldn't go back to the Master.

It's time to move on, she thought to herself. She waited until she was certain there was no one about and stood up slowly. Dawn would be approaching she would have to find somewhere to lie low, she stepped over the rats and brushed herself down, checking again for any sign of someone watching. Satisfied, she dissappeared into the shadows at the mouth of the alley.

The rats watched her go.
