It had been a generally quiet day for Cordelia Chase, until a loud pounding noise interrupted her intense train of thoughts.
"This had better be good." she grumbled. She opened the door to find her boyfriend, Xander, standing there with a bouquet of brightly colored flowers, wearing his trademark goofy, lopsided grin. She also noted to herself that he was carrying a brown paper package tucked beneath his right arm.
"Xander, what are you doing here?" she asked, trying not to sound too excited about him coming.
"Don't you know what today is? Our one year anniversary." He leaned over and kissed her lightly on the cheek, then handed her the flowers. "Well, if you don't count that whole breakup on Valentine's Day last year." He finished.
"Xander, these are beautiful. You know, you can actually be sensitive sometimes."
"I try."
"Come in. My parents aren't home. They're off in Italy somewhere. Nothing new." replied Cordelia sadly. Xamder walked into the house, actually feeling sorry for the former Ice Queen.
"Well, if it's any consolation, you know I'm always here." replied Xander.
Cordelia smiled. "Yeah, it is. So... What's in the box."
"A surprise." he said simply.
"Tell me!" she said, beginnig to get excited.
"Cordy, if I tell you, it won't be a surprise." said Xander.
"I know...please tell me, I wanna know what it is before I open it." replied Cordelia.
Xander sighed in defeat." it's a Chia Pet, are you happy?"
"Ooh, a Chia Pet, I've heard about those things. I just got the newest fashion magazine from France and there was his adorable new hairstyle, and I bet I could do it on the Chia Pet and..." While she had been droning on, Xander unwrapped the package.
"Scooby Doo?! Scooby Doo can't have an adorable French hairstyle!" Cordelia whined.
"Actually, he could, but I think the rest of Mystery Inc. would consider him a cross-dresser." replied Xander.
" I guess it *is* kinda cute." she said.
"And it's symbolic, cuz I know how much you love being in the Scooby Gang." Xander said grinning.
"Ok, Xand. Whatever you say." replied Cordelia, who was also grinning.
"Come on, let's put the seeds in it." Cordelia said, heading out to the porch.
"Ok, that's done. How long does it take for it to grow?" Cordelia asked.
"About one week." Xander said, scanning the side panel of the box.
"That gives us time to think of a good hairstyle for it." He finished.
"Right. I need time to think before I work my magic." Cordelia agreed.

The couple stood side by side, happily admiring the small Chia Pet, which was sitting on the front porch for all to see.
"It's perfect. Didn't I do such a great job?" Cordelia asked, looking down at the perfect, green heart-shape, which adorned Scooby Doo's head.
"Well, ya know, in my opinion, he could still be a cross-dresser or a hippie, or something..." Xander replied. Cordelia jabbed him in the ribs, which would ruin the moment for any other couple, but not Xander and Cordelia. They just smiled lovingly at each other and walked into the house, hand in hand.
