(Scene opens in a dark ally near the Bronze. A young and inexperianced vampire is feeding on a teenage girl)
BUFFY:
"You know....I wasn't really in the mood for this tonight but I think I'll make an exception in your case".
(Surprised, the vampire drops the already dead girl to the ground and begins to advance on Buffy.)
VAMPIRE (trying to sound menacing)
"You shouldn't mess with me, I'll teach you a lesson."
BUFFY (in a mocking tone)
"Well I'm not really in the mood for a hickey but thanks for asking"
(She attacks with a kick to his stomach, but he quickley returns the favor. She spun around with a kick to the his head. He realizes he's in over his head and begins to run. She catches up to him, knocks him to the ground and pins him down.)
VAMPIRE
"You must be Buffy. Angel sent me"
BUFFY:
"Well in that case, good ridence"
(She stakes him easily and watches him turn to dust before returning to the Bronze.)
BUFFY:
(great.....Angel. Sooner or later its going to be him or me. I don't know if I'm ready for that yet. Its to soon. He used to love me, now the demon that posesses his body will stop at nothing to kill me and my friends. He's already succeeded. Jenny Calendar is gone.)
(She sighed and hurried into the Bronze to find Xander and Willow)
INSIDE THE BRONZE
(Willow and Xander sit at a table talking)
XANDER:
"So Will, you going to the big bash tomorrow?"
WILLOW
"Well I don't know..I mean OZ is going so I guess that means I'm going to"
XANDER:
"Really, what do you see in him besides the fact that he's a werewolf three days out of the month?"
WILLOW
"I don't know, what do you see in Cordelia besides the nightly meetings in the janitors closet?"
XANDER (defensively but smiling)
"Okay okay, point taken".
(Before Willow could say anything else Cordelia came over and pulled Xander up by his shirt)
CORDELIA (heading out towards the dance floor)
"Come on, I want to dance"
XANDER (following Cordelia)
"Like I've always said...I'm a total babe magnet"
(Xander and Cordelia go out to the dance floor at the same time Buffy walks in. She scans the crowd until she spots Willow at the table and begins to head over there.)
BUFFY (sitting down)
"Hey, did I miss any action?"
WILLOW
"Nope. Nothing is really happening. I think I might go over to the Library to see if Giles needs any help"
BUFFY:
"Yeah, I was kind of thinking the same thing. I'm suddenly not in the mood tonight".
WILLOW:
"Why, whats wrong?"
BUFFY:
"Oh nothing I just ran into a little trouble outside"
WILLOW:
"Vampires?"
BUFFY:
"Of course. They're almost like the school mascot."
WILLOW:
"Maybe a party will help you feel better!"
BUFFY:
"You mean tomorrow night? I don't know."
WILLOW:
"Yeah, it'll be fun. We'll all go"
BUFFY:
"Okay. You want to come with me to the Library now? I'm going to see if Giles wants me to patrol".
WILLOW:
"Well, okay. Do you think we should get Xander and Cordelia?"
XANDER (walking over to the table)
"Get us for what?"
BUFFY:
"We're going to see Giles, want to come?"
XANDER:
"Sure, wouldn't miss a moment of his constant rambling on in some other language that isn't English, which is weird since he's from England, about some NEW threat to the existence of humanity that happens to come to Sunnydale because, Hey, we live on the Hellmouth!"
BUFFY:
"So that big long thing was a yes, right"
XANDER:
"Yeah, I guess so."
CORDELIA:
"Hey! Don't I get a say so?"
(Buffy, Xander, and Willow look at each other)
XANDER, BUFFY, WILLOW:
"No"
CORDELIA (sarcastically)
"Well its good to know my vote counts."
FACTORY DOWN TOWN :
(Drusilla and Spike sat alone in the factory's main room.)
DRUSILLA
"When do we get to have our fun?"
SPIKE
"Soon, love. Very soon.
DRUSILLA:
"But I see a door"
SPIKE:
"What door Dru? Tell me what you see".
DRUSILLA:
"Its a door. It's opening for us. Carla Laurelle is weakening. Tomorrow night the door will be open."
SPIKE:
"What do we need to do love?"
ANGEL (walking out of the shadows)
"You need to get up and do something about the slayer"
(Leaning over Spike in his wheel chair)
ANGEL:
"But I forgot you can't do that, can you?"
DRUSILLA (smiling)
"Angel"
ANGEL:
"In the flesh my darling"
SPIKE (annoyed at Angel's presence)
"I don't see you doing anything about the slayer."
ANGEL (turning back to Spike)
"Oh I have my own plan. I'm just going to use our little "door".
SPIKE (still annoyed)
"How?"
ANGEL:
"Tomorrow night is the Anniversary of my little change. Now I'm back and badder than ever. Buffy will be to over run with her emotions about me to do much of anything else. Thats when you strike."
SPIKE:
"Very lovely idea mate, but how are you going to catch her?"
ANGEL:
"Now that...is a surprise".
LATER, IN THE LIBRARY :
(Buffy, Willow, Cordelia, and Xander walk into the Library to find Giles hunched over one of his books)
BUFFY:
"Hey Giles, what are you reading?"
GILES:
"Huh? Oh, its an old watchers journal. Apparently we've reached sort of a lull in the paranormal business.
XANDER:
"Meaning....."
GILES:
"Well, to put it your way I guess you could say the vampires and demons and sorts are on a vacation"
BUFFY:
"Great, more time to party. Although I did see a vampire at the Bronze tonight".
GILES:
"Really?"
BUFFY:
"Yeah, but he was sent by Angel so I guess he would have much rather stayed home had he had the choice."
GILES:
"Interesting"
XANDER (In a macho tone)
"Well, I'm all for a vacation. I mean tomorrows the big party and I would hate to have to send Buffy out slaying without my protection.
CORDELIA:
"You couldn't protect a fly, you'd be to busy running like a woman."
XANDER:
"Hey! On behalf of myself I would like to say that I can very much run like a man, thank you."
BUFFY (ignoring them)
"So, anyway, I get a break? Finally!"
GILES:
"As your watcher I would like to take this opportunity to warn you that you shouldn't let your guard down even for a second. Because the books say so doesn't mean that something won't happen. You said so yourself that you saw a vampire."
BUFFY:
"Staked. I staked a vampire, and quite easily too. He was just a weak one sent by Angel to remind me he's still there."
GILES:
"Yes, well, You see my point?"
BUFFY (rolling her eyes)
"Yes, okay, I'll be careful. So, do you think its worth going out and patroling tonight?"
GILES (looking at his book)
"Huh? Oh, um...No thats alright Buffy I think you can go home tonight.
BUFFY:
"Giles are you feeling okay? You just told me that I didn't have to patrol. You remember your whole "sacred duty" thing right?
XANDER:
"Buff, I say quit while your ahead"
WILLOW:
"Yeah, this frees you up for the party at the Broze tomorrow."
BUFFY:
"Yeah, I guess. I still don't know if I want to go. Tomorrow is kind of a bad day for me."
CORDELIA:
"Oh yeah, tomorrows the anniversary of the time you slept with that guy and now he's trying to kill you cause he's evil."
(everybody turns around and stares at Cordelia in shock)
CORDELIA:
"What? I have a good memory"
GILES:
"Oh, I see then. Well don't dwell on it Buffy. It's just like any other day".
BUFFY:
"Yeah, sure. Any other day."
THE NEXT NIGHT AT THE BRONZE :
(Buffy, Xander, Willow and Cordelia enter the Bronze)
WILLOW:
"Buffy whats wrong?"
BUFFY:
"Oh nothing, I just have a weird feeling thats all. Like someones watching me."
(Buffy scans the room but doesn't find anything out of the ordinary. The camera moves over to a dark corner of the room where we see Angel in the shadows watching Buffy and her friends.)
ANGEL:
(Soon)
(meanwhile Buffy and her friends begin to have fun. They dance, laugh, talk, just like normal teenagers.)
WILLOW:
"See, I told you this was a good idea".
(Buffy begins to smile, but suddenly gets this feeling of dread. Something is wrong. She scans the room again but doesn't notice anything odd.)
BUFFY:
(maybe there's a vampire near)
(She looks around again.)
BUFFY:
(I know there is a vampire near, but I can't get a lock on it!It feels like its everywhere!)
(suddenly everyone begins to scream and run everywhere. Buffy lost contact with her friends who were caught up in the wave of people rushing to get out. There were vampires everywhere. It looked like every vampire in Sunnydale was right there in that room! Buffy pulled out her hair pin that was conveniantly a stake and a hair pin and set to work. Before she knew it the room was completely empty except for her and the vampires.)
BUFFY:
"You guys just had to come tonight didn't you. Well I'm warning you that I'm NOT happy."
(She staked a vampire to her left the quickley turned right as a wave of them came rushing at her. She fought them all and staked three of them. She looked around for anymore before she realized that she was alone in the room.)
BUFFY:
(How could thirty vampires disappear? Something is wrong. Something doesn't feel right. This was all a trap!)
(She rushed to the doors of the Bronze to find them all locked. Every single one of them. She tried to kick them open but they wouldn't budge. She was trapped. She looked around the room. The four vampires she had staked had turned to dust. The room was empty except for some spilled drinks and some knocked over tables and chairs. Something still didn't feel right. Then a cold shiver went up her spine as she realized what felt wrong.)
ANGEL:
"Hello lover. Did you miss me?"
(Angel. He was standing behind her in the shadows.)
BUFFY:
"Not really. More like I missed smashing your face in."
ANGEL:
"Oh come on now....that really hurts. I wanted to get back together"
BUFFY:
"I hate to disappoint you...but I think not"
ANGEL:
"Oh well...I guess I'll just have to settle for killing"
BUFFY:
"I'd like to see you try".
(Angel caught her by surprise by kicking her in her stomach and knocking her to the ground.)
ANGEL:
"You know, my mother said never kick a dog when its down. Of course that was just before I broke her neck".
(He kicked her in her side again.)
ANGEL:
"Whats the matter? Can't you bring yourself to fight me?"
(He tried to kick her again but she grabbed his foot)
BUFFY:
"No. I was just debating on whether I should stake you now or stake you after I beat the crap out of you".
(She twisted his leg, spinning him around and making him fall to the floor.)
ANGEL:
"Very good. But let me show you how to really do it."
(He kicked up, catching her in her hip and knocking her off balance but she stayed standing. He punched her in the face, but she whirled around and backhanded him in his. She kicked him in the stomach and then the head, knocking him to the ground and pinned him down. With the stake raised she was ready to drive it into his heart.)
ANGEL:
"You know...this is our anniversary. Remember? I made love to you."
(Buffy, caught off guard, froze at his words)
ANGEL (mockingly)
"Yeah, you remember. You did good, for your first time maybe. Although I must say I've had better."
(Completely throwing her into inner turmoil, Buffy lowered the stake slightly. That was enough for Angel though. He took his chance and threw Buffy off of him and kicking her while she was down. Then he picked her up and lowered his teeth to her neck. Just as he bit into her neck his skin began to burn and he dropped her to the floor, unconsious. He felt the back of his neck where it was burning and turned around. There stood Xander, Willow, Cordelia, and Giles all holding crosses, holy water, and lighters.)
XANDER (shaking the holy water he held)
"I'd take a hike if I were you overbite"
(Angel reached for Buffy again but Willow jumped in his way waving a cross at him)
WILLOW:
"Don't even think about it".
ANGEL (mockingly)
"Give her my love"
(Angel quickley retreated and was gone.)
THE NEXT DAY IN THE LIBRARY:
BUFFY:
"Man am I glad you guys came when you did."
(She reached up to her neck where the scar from where Angel bit her was).
XANDER:
"Don't even mention it. Although it was ME that saved you."
CORDELIA:
"Was not!"
XANDER:
"Hey, I threw the holy water on him!"
GILES:
"We ALL helped her".
BUFFY:
"How did you guys get in? I couldn't get out!"
WILLOW:
"We tried all the doors, but they were locked pretty tight. So we broke a window."
GILES:
"One which I unfortunatly have to pay the owner to replace".
CORDELIA:
"It was Xander's idea"
XANDER:
"Well it was either that or we let overbite in there turn Buffy into one of them. Do you know how much that would stink fighting someone you love?"
BUFFY (sad)
"I know exactly how it feels."
WILLOW:
"I'm sorry Buffy".
BUFFY:
"Its okay. But I am going to have to do something about him sooner or later. I just hope its later."
