--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Buffy limped into the mansion with Angel following close behind her. It was over. The mayor was dead, but as for everyone but themselves they were not sure. Angel had recovered from the poison through drinking Buffy's blood, though she thought it would kill her. It didn't, in a way it made her stronger and it reversed Angel's condition.

Buffy looked at her beloved Angel and she realized that she couldn't live without him. She slowly looked down her body and for the first time realized how beat up she was.

Buffy had a long, ragged cut starting at her hip and ending at her knee. Her left cheek was swollen and her right eye was puffy. She limped slightly due to an injured ankle and knee.

Angel was not quite as fortunate. He had taken a great beating from the mayor to buy Buffy time to kill him. His right arm hung limply at his side. He had a hole about an inch in diameter in his upper right chest and a large hole about three inches wide in his abdomen. His legs were covered with bloody cuts.

Angel walked over to the fireplace and bent over to lite the fire. Buffy watched him and quietly walked to him. She wrapped her arms carefully around his waist to avoid any of his wounds. She expected him to shrug off her arms, but he turned around and grasped her with his one good arm.

"Don't leave me," Buffy whispered into his chest. "I can't live without you."

Angel closed his eyes. He had to leave, it was best for her. But here she was begging him not to go. Maybe he had been too hasty in his decision, maybe he should stay, for a little while at least.

"I'll stay," Angel choked out. "For now at least."

She nodded against him and sighed. It was the best she was going to get and she knew it.

Angel slowly lead her over to the bed and gently sat her down on it. "You need to rest. You're body needs to heal."

"What about you?" Buffy asked quietly.

"I'll stand watch to make sure no vamps try anything," he said firmly.

"They won't and you know it. They're leader is defeated, they won't try anything, they're too afraid of us. So there's no reason why you can't rest and recover too." Buffy argued.

Angel sighed. He never could win against her. "All right. I'll rest."

Buffy smiled faintly. At least he was safe for now.

* * *
Buffy woke up to a blinding light. She shielded her eyes and blinked in surprise.

She reached over to where Angel was and found him awake also. "What's going on?" she yelled.

"I don't know! Are you ok?" Angel worridly replied, he couldn't see her. He could only feel her hand on his.

Suddenly out of the bright light a translucent woman appeared.

"I have you two to thank for stopping the Immortal, do I not?" she asked in a faint echoing voice.

Buffy and Angel looked at eachother. Both wondering what to do.

"You need not to speak, for I can read your minds. I come to you bearing good and bad news. First is always the bad. I regret to inform you both that several of your friends perished in the battle last night." She looked at Buffy. "Your mother Slayer should have listened to your warning, she is dead. Willow Rosenburg and Oz perished together yet managed to take out a group of vampires headed to help the mayor. Xander Harris and Cordelia Chase were found dead at the stage after fighting the spiders from the box. They managed to seal the box and kill the ones that got out before dying at the hands of vampires. You Watcher was the bravest of all next to you two. He fought all he vampires that attempted to help the mayor and managed to keep any of them from getting to you two. He died from loss of blood due to a deep cut."

Buffy choked back a sob. They were all dead. She had no one now, but Angel and he was determined to leave her.

"I know that I have brought you much grief, Slayer, but realize that you're friends are safe and happy in heaven. And I shall give you the one thing you desire most in this world. Angel."

The woman paused to let this sink in. They were both looking disbelievingly at her.

"For you Slayer, I make your Angel human with his superior strength and healing capabilities and no happiness clause," at this last part she smiled. "He may walk in the day and everything, think of yourself as a male slayer. And for you fallen Angel, I give you both immortality, don't try to fool yourself, that is what you want. To be with eachother forever."

"Why?" Buffy asked.

"Because you both have done wonderful things for our side in battling the darkness and you deserve a reward. Love eachother, be free, enjoy your immortality with eachother. There is a soul-lock between you two. When one dies so does the other, you will never be apart again. This is my gift to you for all the sacrifices you have made for us."

With a loud clap of thunder she was gone, leaving a stunned Angel and Buffy behind.

Buffy looked at Angel through teary eyes. "Forever," she whispered as she leaned toward Angel.

"Forever, that's the whole point," Angel said as his lips met hers in a kiss that meant love and happiness forever
