Buffy The Vampire Slayer > BTVS - Past
Close Your Eyes by Shay
[Reviews - 6]

A/N: This is not a first person fiction like my “Black Goddess” Trilogy, about Spike. Spike is in this saga, and you may see similar passages in both stories, except that the passage will be from Spike’s point of view, in the Trilogy. This story isn’t really from anyone’s point of view. Hope you enjoy, I’m thinking about doing stories about each of the Buffy and Angel characters pasts.

"It's a girl." The midwife of the village said happily, handing the child to her father.

The man looked into her eyes, and a tear came to his. “Katherine.” he said to her. “You shall be Katherine.” He gave the baby back to the midwife, so she could tend to it, while his wife was recuperating.

As the woman woke, she saw her husband sitting beside her, and her son, standing by the bed.

“Mother?” The little boy said as she woke.

“Liam, come closer.” The woman said, putting out her hand.

“How are you feeling dear?” her husband asked her, concerned.

“It was harder than with Liam.” she smiled, her natural, happy self once more.

“Mother?” The boy asked once again.

“Yes, Liam?” The tired woman asked.

“Are you feeling well?” The boy asked worried.

“Yes, I’m fine Liam.” she answered. “Why do you seem so troubled?”

The little boy tightened his grip on his mothers hand, as she broke into another sweat.

“Midwife!” The man bellowed for the woman to come back to them.

“Sir?” The midwife asked rushing over.

“What is wrong?” Liam’s father asked frantically.

“She is bleeding sir.” The midwife said, reaching for towels and a pan of water. “Maybe you and the little one should step out for a moment.” The woman pleads, as she sooths the sick woman’s head, and tries to stop her bleeding.

“No!” The man yells. Not at the midwife, but at the world.

“Liam?” his wife whispers worriedly. Her eyes grow wide, and the last thing she sees before she dies is a dark shadow enveloping her son. “No.” is her dieing word.

The funeral was two days later, in the town cemetery. The beautiful young woman was buried, in her finest dress, with no shoes. In a very conservative society, such as theirs, this was unheard of, but it had been her wish. Her husband had sworn to her, that he would do all in his power, to see that she received what she wished, in the case of her death. And so he had. Her free spirit, was now completely free, released into the heavens, to be with her lord. Her husband cried fiercely at her funeral, and at home, he tried to take care of his children. Katherine, who had her mothers name, had been given a nurse-maid. They had never had maids or servants in the house, but Edgar knew that he needed help with his children.

A/N: Here is my latest update, sorry it took so long!

He, even in his deep sadness, knew that he would have to marry again, for his children’s benefit. As much as the thought pained him at first, he eventually married to a woman from the town. She had thick brown hair, and kind eyes, and Liam liked her, and accepted her as mother quickly enough. Her first few months with the family were pure hell though. Liam refused to speak to his father, or his new mother. He would sit in his room all day, or sometimes go to Katherine’s room, and watch her as she slept in her crib. As he sat he would think the thoughts of children, questions about where his mother went, and when she would return.

Katherine was beautiful. She had shining eyes and it seemed she had been born with hair. She quickly grew attached to Liam, even though he was reluctant at first to have anything to do with her. He warmed to her soon, as she always seemed to want him to hold her, feed her, change her, play with her. He even began singing some old lullabies to her that his mother had once sang to him. They were inseparable.

Edgar had never known Liam to care for anything as fiercely as he did his little sister. As the years went on and Katherine grew, she became the beauty everyone had known she would. The boys of the village would fight over her, frantic to be near her and one day hopefully marry her. But Liam would have none of it. Any boy who came within ten feet of his sister had been carefully scanned by Liam first. And boys who came calling at the house were quickly chased off, oft times with Liam running after them with an assortment of sharp objects.

A/N: Still not finished with this chapter, I'm very sorry, but I thought I should update, since I haven't updated in a year on this! I'm still working at it, just a word at a time! Forgive me!
