LOVING, NEEDING, AND PROMISING
Buffy and Spike slowly made their way to the Summer's house. Twice, Spike almost lost consciousness.
"Spike?" Buffy asked, gently. He looked at her and gave him a slight smile. "Please. We're almost there. Once I get you inside, fed, and in bed, you can sleep. Please. Just a little longer," she pleaded with soft eyes.
Spike nodded and they trudged along.
Buffy managed to get Spike home, and up to her room. Carefully, she laid him on her bed and he drowned 3 mugs of blood before passing out.
Buffy busied herself by cleaning his wounds. Tears welled at the sight of his destroyed body, but she was able to keep them from falling.
She sent Xander to get clothes for him, because his pants were filthy. His eye was swollen shut, all his ribs were broken, and everything below his waist was cut and bruised.
Buffy couldn't do anything for his ribs until he was awake, but she just let him sleep.
Down stairs, she explained the situation to the potentials.
"That was Spike," Buffy said softly. All the girls looked kind of skeptical. "I know he doesn't look like much now, but when he's better, your minds are gunna change," Buffy said, going to the kitchen to heat him up some more blood.
Dawn followed her sister with a worried expression. "How is he?"
Buffy shook her head. "Not good. All his ribs are broken and his legs look just as bed as the rest of him," Buffy whispered.
"Is he going to get better?" Dawn asked, softly.
"Do you want him to get better?" Buffy asked, looking at her sister.
Dawn nodded. "Believe it or not, I do."
"I honestly don't know. I hope so. He's survived Glory and now the First. Hopefully he can pull through," Buffy said.
The microwave beeped and Buffy took the blood out. "I need to go give this to him," she said.
"Can I come?" Dawn asked, hopefully.
Buffy nodded and the two of them disappeared upstairs.
Buffy sat Spike up a little and climbed underneath him. She gently settle his head in her lap, and he continued to slumber. She stuck her finger in the blood and rubbed it over his lips.
Dawn watched as Buffy gently coaxed Spike's vampire senses to wake up.
Buffy brought the mug to his lips and Spike drank all of it. She smiled and petted his hair softly.
Dawn took the mug from her and Spike suckled on Buffy's finger. He was still vamped out but his fangs never touched her. During his suckling, his face returned to normal. Both sisters began to smile fondly.
"How's it feel?" Dawn asked.
"Comforting. I know he's still alive if he does this. I think it helps him sleep if he knows I'm here and no one is going to hurt him anymore," Buffy said, still petting him.
Dawn stood up. "You should get some sleep," she said.
Buffy nodded. "Dawn, I need to do something about the sleeping arrangement."
"All over it. I wanna see him when he wakes up," Dawn said, and left the room.
Buffy looked down at Spike, her hand in his hair and her finger in his mouth. "Spike." Just saying his name cause a tear to slip. "I really need you to wake up. I know your alive but I need you to open your eyes." Tears flooded down her cheeks. "The First is killing people I'm responsible for. Don't let it take you from me. I'm so lost and confused right now. I need something solid to lean on. Please, I need you." She gently took her finger from his mouth. She leaned down to cover to his face. Her arms were splayed across his chest and her head was on his shoulder.
She knew her position would cause her to be in pain in the morning, but she didn't care. After a while, she cried herself to sleep.
When Buffy woke, she was in the same position. She leaned up to ease her cramped muscles. Her hand was in Spike's, and their fingers were entwined.
"Spike, you have to wake up. God, please," Buffy whispered. Tears flooded down her cheeks. She leaned over and kissed his lips softly. "Please, Spike. Your home with me. You're gunna be okay, but please, wake up." She kissed his lips gently.
Through the fog in his mind, Spike could hear her and felt her lips. Slowly, he came to and kissed her back softly.
Buffy pulled away a little when she felt him respond. "Spike?"
Spike opened his good eye, and squeezed her hand.
Buffy smiled and squeezed him. "I missed you," she said. She moved her left hand, which wasn't in his, and cradled the side of his face. She was careful of the deep scrape on his ear.
Painfully he moved his arms to touch her. "Buffy?" He rasped.
"Shhh. Don't talk. Just relax, you're okay," Buffy said.
"Buffy?" Dawn called, as she knocked on her sister's bedroom door.
"Come in," Buffy said, still crying softly.
Dawn came in and saw the cuddling pair. "You're awake," she said, handing the blood to Buffy.
Buffy took the blood. "Spike, you need to drink this. Please?" She whispered.
Buffy tilted the mug against his lips, and he drained it. Buffy smiled and put it on her night stand.
"Dawn, I need a first aid kit," Buffy said.
Dawn nodded and disappeared into the bathroom.
"Spike, I need to tape your ribs. Can you stand?" She asked.
Spike shook his head.
"That's okay. Don't worry about it," Buffy said, squeezing his hand again.
Buffy gently pushed Spike up into a sitting position. She flinched when Spike whimpered. "Sorry," she whispered.
Once his ribs were taped, Buffy settled him back onto her bed. "I'll be right back," she whispered.
She glanced at Dawn and headed downstairs.
The gang was filled in on the situation.
"Buffy, what do you need done?" Xander asked.
"Buffy looked at him. "Xander, can you take all the girls to your place. Spike needs to recuperate and I'd rather him do it without a bunch of girls ogling him," Buffy said.
"We'll leave as soon as everyone's ready," Xander said.
"Thank you, Xander," Buffy said, softly.
"How is he?" Xander asked.
Buffy shook her head. "I don't know. It's gunna take some time," she said.
Xander nodded and rounded everyone up.
Buffy went back upstairs. "Dawn, Xander's taking the girls to his place. I need you to go with him," she said.
"Why? Buffy, I wanna stay and help," Dawn pleaded.
"I know. You will be helping if you go with them. Dawn, he needs my full attention right now," Buffy said.
"Okay. You're right," Dawn said. "I'll go."
"Thank you," Buffy said, and went back to her vampire.
Later, when they were alone, Buffy was watching him sleep. He began to whimper. "Buffy..." he moaned.
Buffy went over and sat next to him. "Spike, it's okay," she whispered, running her fingers over his face.
He quieted under her touch and she laid next to him. "It's okay. I'm here," she said. She slipped into sleep, still stroking his hair gently.
When Spike woke, he was still nestled in Buffy's arms. He gently eased out of her embrace without waking her. He went to take a shower after he found clean clothes on Buffy's chair.
When Buffy woke a few minutes later she panicked. "Spike?" She sat up. "Spike!" She yelled, frantically.
Spike came running into her room. His hair and chest were wet obviously form the shower. He was wearing his jeans which were a little too big on his narrow hips. "Buffy, what happened?" He asked, sitting next to her.
Buffy put her hands on his face. "You okay?"
"Yeah. I just needed a shower. You okay?" Spike asked, bring his hands to hers.
"You just scared me. How you feeling?" She asked.
"Better now that I'm clean. More comfortable in clothes," he said.
"You must be better now that you can walk," Buffy said, grabbing a comb out of her end table. She began fixing his curls. "You look better without hair gel. It brings out your soft curls," Buffy said, finishing up.
"I'll remember that, Pet," he mumbled, his eyes closed.
Buffy smiled at his expression. She looked over his torso and smiled. "You're healing very well," she said.
Spike opened his eyes. "I don't feel a whole lot better then before though," he admitted softly.
"That's okay. There's no rush," she said.
Spike looked at her. "What's been going on since I left?"
Buffy got up. "Oh god. You have no idea," she said. "The first evil is the new Big Bad. Every girl who's going to be a slayer is a target. Every potential slayer is coming here. The Turok- Han is working on the girls in Sunnydale. There's already 4 of them. We lost 2 of them. They are worse then Dawn. My kitchen is destroyed. I fought the vampire and it dumped a bunch of building material on me when I attacked it. I need you to help me do this cause I've been doing it for 17 days alone and I've gotten nowhere." Buffy had unshed tears in her eyes. "Spike, I'm slipping. I feel like I have nothing to lean on. I haven't slept since you left, I haven't been hungry, and if you see what my body looks like, I look just as bad as you," she whispered, her tears spilling over.
Spike got up and cautiously approached her. "Buffy, calm down. You need to get some sleep. Do you want me to look at you wounds?" He asked, softly.
"Just lemme change out of these clothes," Buffy said, and disappeared into the bathroom.
She came back wearing a black tank top and shorts. Her arms had bruises up down them. Her legs looked almost like Spike's and she favored her left foot.
Spike frowned at her. "Buffy," he whispered.
Buffy knew it was okay if she showed her pain. She limped to the bed and eased onto it.
Spike sat next to her, and began carefully cleaning her arms. She hissed when the rubbing alcohol touched a fresh wound.
"Sorry," he said, softly.
"It's okay," she said.
Spike cleaned up the rest of her and tucked her in. "Get some sleep," he said, with a smile.
"Where are you going?" Buffy asked, noticing him leaving.
"Don't worry about it. Just sleep," Spike said, leaving the door in case.
She did as she was told and fell into a fitful sleep.
Spike went downstairs and surveyed the damage. He went to the kitchen and drank a lot of blood. He cleaned up the mess in the kitchen and made a grocery list for Buffy.
Around dusk, Spike went upstairs, and checked on Buffy. She was still sound asleep. He smiled and went downstairs. He hand another mug of blood and relaxed in the living room
Buffy woke about an hour later. She stood and stretched. She changed her shirt, threw her hair up, and went downstairs.
She saw Spike lounging in the living room on the couch. When he saw her, he stood.
"Feel better?" He asked.
"Yeah," Buffy said, looking' at the room. "You cleaned," she said.
"Yeah. I cleaned the kitchen and made a grocery list for you," he said.
Buffy went to the kitchen and her mouth dropped. "Oh my god," she whispered in awe. "You do laundry?" She teased him, turning around.
Spike shook his head. "Everything but laundry. You want your clothes to fit, don't' ask me to do your laundry."
Buffy smiled. "Don't worry. You did enough," she said.
She walked up to him and wrapped her arms around his neck.
Spike tentatively put his arms around her waist.
Buffy pulled her head back to look at his face. She leaned in to kiss him softly.
Spike immediately pulled away. "Buffy?"
"Hm?" Buffy mumbled.
"What are you doing?" Spike asked, softly.
"I was kissing you," Buffy said, matter- of- factly.
"Why?" Spike asked.
"Because I wanted to," Buffy said, softly. "I thought you'd want to also."
Spike gently unlatched her arms from around his neck. "Buffy, it's not that I don't want to, because I do, but we can't."
Buffy frowned and crossed her arms. "Why not?"
Spike looked down not really wanting to look into her eyes.
"Oh," she said, almost inaudibly. She put her hand under his chin, and raised his gaze to hers. "Spike," she said.
Spike looked at her.
Buffy ran the back of her hand across his face. She stepped closer to him and wrapped her arms around his neck. She leaning in and kissed him again.
Spike pulled away again. "Buffy, we have to stop."
"Spike," Buffy said, tears welling in her eyes.
"Yeah?" Spike asked.
"I meant every word I said,' Buffy said, tears falling down her cheeks.
"What about what I did?" Spike asked.
"What you almost did," Buffy corrected. "But it's different now."
"That doesn't make it better," Spike whispered.
"Spike, listen to me. We can't change the past. I just wanna have a better future. Angel and Riley didn't come back. You did. You came back , with a soul. You proved something to me the minuted I saw you again," Buffy said, sliding her hands into his.
"Are you sure?" Spike asked.
"Yes," Buffy said, very softly.
Spike leaned down and captured her lips with his own.
Buffy moaned as his tounge invaded her mouth. "Spike."
"Buffy," he whispered huskily.
She smiled. "I know. I had Xander take everyone to his place. You probably wanted to recover without a bunch of girls around."
"You're probable right," Spike said.
Buffy smiled. "I wanna see how much you've improved," she said, going to the living room to grabbed a first aid kit.
Spike followed and took off his shirt. His muscle still pulled a little but other then that, he was okay.
Buffy smiled at his improvements. She ran her hands over his chest, ribs, abs, and up and down his back. The swelling had gone down on his eyes and the scrape on his ear was almost gone.
As she was inspecting his back, the only this that upset her was how thin he was. She frowned, but didn't dwell on the negatives too much.
Buffy slipped her arms around his waist and laid her head against his back.
Spike couldn't help but smile and he brought his hands up to hers. "You ok Pet?"
"Yeah. This my be our only alone time before the gang come home," she said, kissing in between his shoulder blades.
Spike turned in her arms. "What do you want me to do?" He asked.
"What I know thing's have calmed down a little, and you are stronger, we need to start training and patrolling with the girls. You can show them what vamps can dot," Buffy said, seriously. "We don't have time to coddle them so no holding back. Just... you can't eat them," she joked.
"Promise. After another night of rest and a good healthy meal, I should be okay," he said, smiling.
Buffy leaned up and kissed him gently.
Spike wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her flush against him.
Buffy moaned softly as she tried to get closer to him. Carefully, she hoisted herself onto his waist, and locked her ankles behind his back.
Spike kissed her for all he was worth, but he broke away so she could breathe. "Buffy?" He whispered.
She leaned back in to kiss him. She licked his lips, seeking entrance.
Spike parted his lips and her tounge invaded his mouth. He took her upstairs and took her to the bedroom.
Gently, he lowered on to the bed, cradling her head. Their lips never parted.
Spike slid his hands under her gray T- shirt. He ran his hand up her bare back 'til he found her bra clasp. His nimble fingers unhooked it and he removed her shirt and bra.
After 3 hours, Spike laid draped over Buffy, content. He was purring quietly.
Buffy was smiling and running her had through his hair absently. "I like that," she whispered.
Spike smiled. "I'm glad," he said.
Buffy ran her leg up and down his. "How you feeling?"
"I'm fine,'' he said.
''Good. I miss having you around," Buffy whispered.
"Not gunna leave ever again. Promise," he whispered.
"I'm holding you to that promise," she said, resting her head on his.
Spike tightened is arms slightly. "I love you," he mumbled sleepily.
Buffy smiled. ''I know," she said, softly. ''Just don't stop loving me."
"I won't. Promise," he whispered, kissing her collarbone lightly. "Go to sleep Pet," he whispered.
Soon both vampire and slayer were asleep.
