HE'S ALWAYS GUNNA BE HERE
"Buffy," Riley said.
Buffy ran out of the room with Spike closed behind her. She had tears running down her face.
Spike caught up with her, and stood in front of her. "Pet, I'm sorry. I thought you should know."
"How long?" Buffy asked, looking at Spike.
"I just found out tonight, but it looks like it's been goin' on for awhile," Spike said. "You should get home."
"Spike, can you take me home?" She asked.
Spike nodded and scooped her up.
When he entered the house Joyce was in the kitchen. "Spike, what happened?" She asked.
"She's okay. Just tired," Spike said, taking Buffy upstairs.
He tucked her in and smoothed her hair back. He smiled at her sleeping form and went downstairs.
Joyce was making him hot chocolate. "How is she?"
Spike sat at the counter. "Really tired. She had a rough night."
Joyce handed him his mug and little marshmallows. "Thanks mum."
Joyce smiled. "No problem."
Spike chatted with Joyce for awhile before heading home.
He kept his senses open for any sign of Riley. He got lucky and didn't run into him.
When Buffy woke, she sighed before heading to the shower.
She went downstairs and told her mom and Dawn what happened.
"Mom, I'm gunna go to the magic shop. Let them know. Dawn, you comin'?" Buffy asked.
Dawn nodded and they left.
The bell jingled above the door as Buffy and Dawn entered.
"Hey guys," Buffy said, gloomily.
Willow went over to Buffy. "You okay?"
Buffy shook her head. "No. Will, he cheated on me."
"What?" Willow asked.
"Las night, Spike took me to a warehouse were Riley was paying vamps to feed off him," Buffy said, tears running down her face.
Willow pulled her friend into a hug. "It'll be okay, Buffy?"
Xander was listening to the whole conversation. He joined their hug. "We're here for you, Buff."
"Thanks, guys. Uh, breathing becoming an issue," Buffy choked out.
They pulled apart. "Sorry."
Xander forged ahead. "Why did Spike take you?"
"Because he felt that I should know. He carried me home and I know he's sorry for me hurting me, but I'm not mad. I'm gunna go see him later. Make sure Riley didn't wanna like kill him," Buffy said. "I need to go train. Well actually I need to hit something."
"Go ahead," Xander said.
Buffy disappeared into the back and they could here her wailing on the punching bag.
After a few hours, Riley came into the training room.
"Riley, if you wanna keep your body parts, leave," Buffy said, still hitting the bag.
"We have to talk about this," Riley said.
"No. There's nothing you cans say to make this better," Buffy said, looking at him. "You lied to me, for god knows how long." She paused for a minute. "How long?"
"Since your mom got sick," Riley said, softly.
"You are unbelievable. I gave you everything I had and you went around behind my back and almost got yourself killed," Buffy said, going toward the door. "You're sick."
"Buffy," Riley said.
"No, I don't ever wanna see you again," Buffy said, and walked out of the Magic Box.
Riley was right behind her.
Buffy put on a burst of slayer speed and ran straight to Spike's crypt. She flew through the door, colliding with him.
"Buffy?" Spike asked, confused.
Buffy wrapped her arms around Spike's waist and buried her face in his chest.
Spike hugged her tightly. "Buffy, it's okay."
Buffy's heart wrenching sobs made them collapse to the floor.
The door came flying open. "Buffy," Riley said, panting. "We need to work this out."
Spike stood up with Buffy still attached. "Back off," he growled, possessively.
"Stay out of this. This whole mess is your fault," Riley said.
Buffy pulled herself away from Spike's embrace. "No, it's yours," Buffy said softly. "Riley, I said I never wanted to see you again. We can't fix this so just leave me alone," she said, and walked to the other side of the crypt.
Riley hung his head and left.
Spike resisted the urge to be snarky and went towards Buffy. "You okay, Pet?"
"I will be. You wanna go patrolling? I need to kill something," she said.
"Sure. Why not?" Spike slipped his duster on. "Ready?"
Buffy nodded and they left.
After about ten minutes, a few vamps attacked them.
Buffy and Spike dusted most of them. Buffy was beating on one who said something about Riley.
Spike dusted the vamp and grabbed her fists. "Buffy, stop." He pried he fingers apart and entwined his fingers with hers. He pulled her to her feet. "Don't do this to yourself," he said, gently.
Buffy relaxed. "Spike, he said he started when mom got sick. That was almost two months ago and that's when I was oblivious to everything."
"How is your mom? She looked different last night," Spike said.
"Sorry. I didn't tell you already. She had a brain tumor and she had an operation done. But everything's okay. Well almost everything." Tears slid for her eyes. "I have go to be doing something wrong. It has to be me, because everyone has left me. I never thought there was anything wrong with them."
Spike brought his hands to her cheeks and he wiped her tears. "It's not you," he said, softly. "I know you better then anyone and it's not you."
Buffy brought her hands to his wrists. "What brought this on?" She asked.
"What?" Spike asked.
"You were out to kill me not that long ago," Buffy said.
"I could never kill you. I don't really want to," Spike said softly.
Buffy smiled. "Mutual."
Spike smiled back. "Come on."
They continued patrolling. Buffy slid her hand into his as all their Riley problems slowly drifted away.
Spike walked Buffy home. They came through the door laughing.
"Tell me!" Spike said.
"Nope," Buffy said, going to the kitchen.
"Buffy," Spike whined.
Buffy turned to face him. "Fine, come here."
Spike walked up to her. She wrapped her arms around his neck and put her face up to his ear.
A smile came to Spike's face as she whispered to him. "Really?"
"Yeah," Buffy whispered. She leaned up and kissed him softly.
Spike pulled away. "Buffy you just broke up with Riley," he said.
"I know. I needed to thank you," Buffy said.
"Your welcome. Now, go upstairs and get some sleep," he said.
"'Kay. I'll see you tomorrow," Buffy said, going upstairs.
Spike shook his head and left with a smile.
The next night, Buffy and Spike went to the Bronze to hang out.
They were dancing together with Buffy's back against Spike's front as they swayed. The slow rhythm caused Buffy to melt into his arms.
And a hero comes along
With the strength to carry on
Spike kept his hands on her hips and was being good.
Buffy put her hands on his. "Thank you."
Spike laid his head against her hair. "You said that last night, but for what?"
"Everything. I feel safe in your arms. Like no one can hurt me and evertything's okay," she said, leaning more against him.
Spike moved his head to the side and whispered in her ear. "I'll always be her. You know where to find me if you need me."
Buffy smiled. "I know." She turned her head so her lips were millimeters from hers. "Spike," she whispered.
"You just broke up with Riley, Buffy," Spike said.
"I know. He's not the one holding me though. You've never hurt me like he has, and you probably never will," Buffy said. "When are you gunna let me kiss you?"
"I'm not," Spike said.
"What?" Buffy asked, trying to move away from him.
"I'm going to kiss you first," Spike said. "In time."
Buffy relaxed back into his arms. "I can wait," she said.
Spike nuzzled her. "Don't rush."
They continued to sway and nuzzled eachother. Occasionally their hands would squeeze eachother.
Meanwhile, the gang was watching with Riley. Their jaws were on the floor.
"I'm going over there," Riley said.
"No you're not," Dawn growled. "Leave them alone.."
"It's Spike," Riley said.
"And it's Buffy," Dawn said.
"Pet you know your friends are watching," Spike said.
Buffy smiled. "I know. I don't care, though." She turned in his arms so she could see him. She slid her arms around her neck.
Spike smiled and pulled her closer to him.
Buffy laid her head on his chest and threaded her fingers in his hair. "I can't believe we didn't do this sooner."
"Better late then never," Spike said softly.
The slow song ended and an upbeat one began.
Buffy and Spike kept their rhythm together. Buffy looked over at her friends and smiled at Dawn who winked.
Spike and Buffy's hips kept mirrored movements. One of his legs slipped between hers and they continued. Their eyes were locked on eachother and they were smiling.
Tara, Dawn, Willow, Xander, and Anya joined them on the dance floor.
Riley watched with disgust and shock.
Spike held Buffy has she leaned back. Every part of her body was moving.
After the song ended, Buffy and Spike headed to the bar for a break.
"My god, Spike," Buffy said, laughing.
"What?" Spike teased.
"You have good moves," Buffy said, taking a sip of her coke.
"I'm not complaining," Spike said, drowning his shot of whiskey.
"No one is," Buffy said, referring to her friends. "That's a surprise," Buffy said, finishing her coke.
A slow song came on, quickly registering in Buffy's mind.
Hope life's been good to you
Since you've been gone
Spike stood up and offered his hand to her. Buffy excepted and they headed to dance floor. Xander and Anya were still there and Buffy assumed Willow and Tara took Dawn home.
I'm doin' fine now- I've finally moved on
It's not so bad- I'm not that sad
Buffy wrapped her arms around Spike's neck and his secluded her in his arms. They swayed back and forth as the song continued.
I'm not surprised just how well I survived
I'm over the worst, and I feel so alive
Unconsciously, Buffy moved closer to him and squeezed his slightly.
I can't complain- I'm free again.
Spike's hands stroked the small of her back as they continues to sway.
And it only hurts when I'm breathing
My heart only breaks when it's beating
My dreams only die when I'm dreaming
So I hold my breath- to forget
Spike began to purr and Buffy nuzzled his neck.
Don't think I'm lyin' round crying at night
There's no need to worry, I'm really alright
I've never looked back- as a matter of fact
Spike pulled back and kissed her forehead. "Can I tell you something?"
And it only hurts when I'm breathing
My heart only breaks when it's beating
My dreams only die when I'm dreaming
So I hold my breath- to forget
Buffy nodded. "Go ahead."It only hurts when I breathe
MMM, no, I've never looked back
as a matter of fact
Spike mentally inhaled and exhaled. "I lone you, Buffy," he whispered.
And it only hurts when I'm breathing
My heart only breaks when it's beating
My dreams only die when I'm dreaming
So I hod my breath- to forget
Buffy tightened her arms. "How long?" She whispered.
"A little after I tried to remove the chip," Spike said.
Hurts when I'm breathing
Breaks when it's beating
Die when I'm dreaming
It only hurts when I breathe
As the song ended, the blondes left The Bronze. They walked, hand in hand, toward Buffy's house. Spike walked Buffy up to her door.
Spike gently took her arm and spun her around.
Buffy looked up at him.
He leaned down and captured her lips with his own. It was only a gentle graze.
"See?" Spike whispered.
Buffy smiled. "Goodnight Spike. I'll see you tomorrow," she said.
"Goodnight Buffy," he said, as she went inside.
Spike home with a strange feeling of warmth inside him.
The next day at the Magic Shop, Buffy was ready to face the firing squad.
"Hey guys," she said, cheerfully.
"Hey Buff," Xander said, as if he didn't see the previous night's events.
"Guys, I wanna talk about last night," Buffy said.
"Okay, well, first, I have something to say. Buffy, two days," Xander said.
"I know. But we kissed twice," Buffy said, sitting next to him. "I know you don't like him, but he takes care of me. He cares," she said softly.
"No, I do like him. He's a guy. I'm pretty much outnumbered. I like him more then I'll ever like Angel. If you're happy then I support you," Xander said.
Buffy smiled. "Thanks. Where's Giles?"
"Downstairs. You goin' out tonight?" He asked.
"I'm patrolling. If you guys are bronzing, I'll drop by," Buffy said, heading to the storage room.
"Buffy, nice to see you," Giles said.
"Giles, can I talk to you about something?" Buffy said, sitting on the steps.
"Of course. Slayer related?" Giles asked.
"No it's personal Buffy stuff," Buffy said. "I'm seeing Spike."
"What?" Giles asked.
Buffy proceeded to tell Giles about the past couple days.
"Well, I don't know what to say," Giles said, cleaning his glasses.
"Just tell me you're not mad. We don't neglect patrol and I'm going slow. We're just friends with two kisses. Giles, I'm happy."
"Just be careful. I'm not mad but, it'll take a little getting used to," Giles said, following Buffy upstairs.
"Thanks. It means a lot that everyone..." Buffy paused.
Riley was standing in the middle of the store with his arms crossed. "We need to talk."
"Talk? Fine. I'm listening," Buffy said, coldly.
"You've lost your mind. I find you crying in his arms then, I find you dancing together like you're in love," Riley said.
"Okay 1) you made me cry. Spike makes me feel better. 2) I found you in the arms of a female vampire with her fangs in you. You found Spike helping through what you did. 3) I will dance, or hang out with whoever I please. If that person happens to be Spike, then oh well. He's more of a man then you'll ever be," she said, heading toward the door. "I'll patrol then meet you at the bronze," she said and left.
That night, demon activity was low and she hadn't seen Spike yet.
She heard sounds of scuffle coming from Spike's crypt.
"Bloody Hell!" Spike growled.
"Spike!" Buffy yelled, as she came through the door.
Riley had Spike pinned to the floor, bloodied, and bruised. "Hi Buffy. I'm kinda busy, so you have to wait."
"You son of a bitch," Buffy said, her voice deadly.
She stalked over to him and yanked Riley off of Spike and throw him across the crypt. "If you don't get out now, I'll kill you," she said, kneeling over Spike. "Come on. You gotta get off the floor," she said, pulling him to his feet.
Buffy gently guided him out of the crypt and toward her house.
Inside, her mother gasped. "What happened?" She asked, concerned.
"I'm fine," Spike said, weakily.
"Yeah Mom. He's fine. Riley just beat the shit out of him is all," Buffy said, taking him upstairs.
Gently she laid him an her bed. "I know it's not that bad but I didn't wanna take any chances," she said, carefully pulling his shirt off.
His face was swollen a little. The cuts had begun healing and he was struggling to stay awake.
Buffy smiled. "Go to sleep, Spike," she said, kissing his lips softly.
Spike smiled and drifted off. Buffy left him to sleep and called Willow at the bronze.
"Hello?" Willow answered.
"Will? I can't make it. Spike needs me here," Buffy said, running her fingers through her hair.
"He okay?" Willow asked, concerned.
"Yeah, but I don't wanna take any chances. I'll tell you tomorrow just try and avoid Riley," Buffy said, tiredly.
"Okay. You get some sleep," Will said.
"I will," And the connection broke.
Buffy found her mom looking at Spike.
"He's okay. Is there blood downstairs?" Buffy asked.
"No. I'll go tomorrow morning and get some," Joyce said, going toward him. She ran her fingers over his face.
Buffy smiled as Spike began to purr. "Thanks, mom. Um... if Spike and I started seeing eachother would you mind?" Buffy asked.
"No. Just been waiting for the two of you to realize it," Joyce said, getting up. "You want the door open?"
"Doesn't matter. I'm gunna keep an eye on him. Oh, where's Dawn?" Buffy asked.
"Sleeping. She's tired. Goodnight, Sweetie," Joyce said, and left.
Buffy smiled and quickly changed her clothes. She looked at her vampire and smiled at how boyish and he looked.
She climbed in next to him and snuggled against him. "I told everyone. So when you're ready, I'll be waiting," she whispered. She kissed him softly and drifted to sleep nestled in his arms.
When Spike woke the next morning, he felt a warm body snuggled against him. He looked down at his sleeping slayer. He smiled and stroked her hair.
Buffy stirred a few minutes later. Unconsciously she nuzzled him.
Spike began to purr. "Morning Pet."
Buffy smiled dreamily as she opened her eyes. "Morning."
Carefully, she pushed herself up. "How you feeling?"
"Fine. Vampire healing took care of it," Spike said, still gazing at her fondly.
Buffy smiled down at him. Carefully, she ran her fingers over his face. "He just won't quite," she whispered.
"Because, I love you and I'm gunna keep fighting for you," Riley said, from the doorway.
He had startled both Buffy and Spike. Buffy glared at him. "If you loved me, you wouldn't have done what you did," she said, coldly.
"Buffy, we've gotta be able to work this out," Riley said.
Buffy was still siting next to Spike on her bed. He was gazing at her with a mixture of emotions.
Buffy sighed. "Riley, we can't fix this. There have been times where you have shown me that you don't really love you.
"If your feelings were true, you would've been able to tell the difference between me and Faith. Right no, my family is what's important. I'm sorry that I was worried about my mom so I couldn't take care of you." Tears formed in her eyes. "Riley you abandoned me for some vampire whore, when I really needed you.
"You wanna find out what it's like to become a vampire, fine. But I won't hesitate in killing you," Buffy said.
"BUFFY!" Her mom called form downstairs.
Spike got up and headed toward the door. He went downstairs to eat and give Buffy some time with Riley.
"She's awake, Mum," Spike said.
"How are you doing Spike?" Joyce asked, handing him a packet of blood.
"Better. Riley and Buffy are going at it again," Spike said, heating his breakfast.
Joyce sighed. "Whatever decision Buffy makes, I support her," Joyce said, as Spike took his mug out.
Spike smiled, then glanced toward the doorway as a teary Buffy came into the kitchen. Spike put his mug on the counter as she came up to him. He wrapped his arms around her. "It's okay Pet," he whispered.
"Buffy!" Riley called, coming into the kitchen. He scowled when he saw Buffy in Spike's arms.
Spike began to growl as Buffy made out a few words. "Riley, Please leave," she said, softly.
"Buffy..." Riley pleaded.
Buffy spun in Spike's arms and flared. "No! I've heard enough. Please leave," she said, turning back to Spike's embrace.
Riley sighed and left.
Joyce rubbed her daughters back as Spike hugged her tightly.
Slowly, Buffy calmed and pulled away a little.
"You okay, Pet?" Spike asked, still keeping his arms around her.
Buffy managed a smile. "Yeah." She turned to face her mom. "I don't him around her anymore."
Joyce nodded. "You sure you're okay?"
Buffy nodded and snuggled back up against Spike. "I'm better now," she said, closing her eyes.
Spike smiled and began to purr.
Joyce smiled at the blonde couple. "Buffy, I have a few errands to run. Then, I have to go to the hospital for a check up," she said.
Buffy opened her eyes. "You okay?"
"Just a check up. Promise," Joyce said.
Buffy smiled a little.
"See you guys later," Joyce said, and left.
After she left, Buffy buried her face in Spike's chest and cried again.
"Hey, what are those for?" He asked.
"She's not gunna get better," Buffy whimpered.
"Pet," he said softly. Gently, he extracted himself from her. "Don't say that. She will."
Buffy managed a weak smile. She wiped her eyes with her hand.
Spike smiled. "Go upstairs and get some more sleep," he said, gently.
"Are you leaving?" She asked, bashfully.
"Do you want me to?" He asked.
Buffy shook her head.
Spike ran his finger down her jaw line. "Then I'll stay," he said, stroking her cheek.
Buffy leaned into his touch. "Kay," she whispered.
Spike leaned down and kissed her softly. Buffy responded with equal gentleness.
When Spike pulled away, she whimpered at his loss. "Go get some sleep," he said.
Buffy smiled and kissed him shortly and did as she was told.
The next day, Buffy found a not form Riley. He left town and she wouldn't see him for some time.
Buffy smiled, knowing it was for the best. She folded the letter and put it in her purse.
"In the main room, Buffy sat at the table. "Hey Will," she said.
"Hey Buff. You okay?" Willow asked.
"Yeah. Riley left town so things'll calm down," Buffy said.
"That's probably best," Willow said, sitting next to her.
"Yeah. He already beat up Spike," Buffy said, sighing.
"How are you and Spike doing?"
"Better then expected," Buffy said. "He loves me so much. I'm happy with him."
"Good. Whadda doing tonight?" Willow asked.
"Patrolling with Spike," Buffy said. "He's resting today and getting stronger."
"You really like him?" Willow asked.
"Yeah, I really do," Buffy said, glancing at her watch. "Listen, I gotta run. See you guys later," she said, heading out of the store.
That night, Buffy and Spike patrolled, even though there was low activity.
"Buffy are you okay?" Spike asked.
Buffy glanced at him. "Yeah. Actually, I'm okay," she said, smiling at him.
Spike smiled back and entwined their fingers as they continued patrolling.
After a few more sweeps, they went home. Buffy took Spike upstairs and they cuddled in bed.
"I'm glad you're here Spike," she whispered.
"I'm always gunna be here. Promise," he said, stoking her hair.
"I don't want you to ever leave," she said.
"Then I won't," he said, kissing her hair.
Buffy snuggled deeper into his arms and they both drifted to sleep.
