STARTING OVER
"Can we rest... Buffy? Can we rest now?" Spike slumped himself over the cross.
Buffy allowed her tears to flow. She approached him. "Spike." She put her hands on his shoulders. She leaned her head against his back. "I'm sorry."
Spike flinched but didn't move.
Buffy kissed between his shoulder blades. "Please. Don't do this. I need you. I don't wanna lose you again." More tears poured down her cheeks. "Please, come off the cross."
Hesitantly, Spike took his arms off the cross. Buffy allowed him to turn, but when he was facing her, she hugged him again.
Spike winced but very cautiously, he wrapped his arms around her. He cradle Buffy's head and just held her while she held him, sobbing.
They collapsed to the floor and they both sobbed. Buffy hugged him tightly. There was so much they needed to talk about, but neither wanted to start yet.
They were both shaking with sobs, on the floor when Xander came in.
"What the hell?" He screamed.
Spike tried to get away from Buffy, but she held him to her. "Not now, Xander," she pleaded.
Xander didn't let up. "Buffy, have you completely lost your mind?" He yelled.
Buffy turned her tear filled eyes toward him. "Xander, just go. Tell Dawn not to worry. I don't know when I'll be home." She kept her arms around Spike's neck and buried her face in him.
Spike allowed his arms to wrapped around Buffy's waist, and they continued to sob. Xander gave up and left.
"Spike, I am so sorry," Buffy whimpered.
"Buffy, you don't have to be sorry. I do," Spike said, tightening his arms around her.
Buffy pulled away and made him look into her eyes. "You can't leave me."
"You want me to stay?" Spike asked, softly.
Buffy nodded. "We can start over. As friends and take things slow."
Spike smiled and wanted to kiss her, but settled for kissing her forehead instead.
