Night. A time of peacefulness, stillness and silence. Despite its magnificent beauty and its dead calm, night could also be a moment of horror, fearfulness and violence. It could be a time for bloody dark creatures to assuage their lust for killing, to spread terror amongst innocent people. Night is the opportunity for vampires to feed on humans.
"Sorry Jenny, this is where you get off" the demon said and as he finished pronouncing those words, he sank his fangs into Jennifer Calendar's neck. She gasped in pain. Her life was falling apart. Every good moment of her life flashed through her mind, every moment she had enjoyed... the time spent with Rupert Giles... the night they went at the monstertruck show... the way they had made love, so passionately on Giles' apartment floor... the truth about her real origin. All these thoughts raced around in her head. Somehow she felt sorry for not telling him the truth. She would have so much liked to make it up to him. He would probably never know the love she had had for him, that he was the only thing she dreamt about. She suddenly cried out Giles' name with a sorrowful tone in her sweet voice. The last picture she saw before Angelus let her body fall was one of her lover, smiling. She collapsed to the floor in a thud. She was dead.
Angelus sighed, satisfied of his work. He hadn't had this feeling of satisfaction since a long time. "I never get tired of doing that" he said to himself after getting his breath back. He then leant forward to kiss Jenny on the cheek and he licked her all the way to the forehead. After kicking her in the ribs, he headed downstairs and vanished in the night.

Spike's warehouse. Later that night.
"So you've decided to provoke the Slayer by killing her bloody friends one by one. Very insane of you. You killed the librarian's girlfriend, that means now we're gonna have to deal with two brassed-off ducks" Spike growled as he rolled up his wheelchair out of Drusilla's room. The latter followed near behind. She was in a pretty good mood that night. She had fed on a police officer sooner, just after dusk. As for Spike, the fact that Angelus was in his house, and that he could do whatever he wanted to, just made him sick. he thought. He stared at Angelus as if his eyes were lasers. God he hated that vampire more than any others, probably because he was so arrogant, so self-assured. Angelus glanced back at him mockingly.
"Well since you're crippled and you can't even walk, I've got to do things my own way" he retorted. He made his way to Drusilla and they started kissing each other. When she seemed to enjoy it, Spike burst out. He wished he could stand up and go smack that bloody bastard. He just held back his anger for another time. He wouldn't wait long...

Restfield Cemetery
Buffy was out on patrol again although there hadn't been lots of vampires lately. But Giles had said that when there was a low vampiric activity, there was something big coming up. So she had gone patrolling not to disappoint him. She was now leaning against a gravestone, stake in hand and ready to fight any demons that would show up in front of her. After waiting for two hours, she decided to call it a night. As she reached the gate, something grabbed her by the shoulder. She turned around to find Xander standing there.
"Next time you want to approach me, you shouldn't come from behind, ?cause someday you'll get yourself badly hurt. Trust me Xander" she warned him. He had a "this-is-no-time-for-this" look on his face.
"God Buffy, you don't know what happened?" he asked as if he wanted her to feel guilty.
"Xander, stop with that look and tell me what's going on" she said pleadingly.
"Looks like Dead Boy struck again" he retorted sarcastically.
"What happened?"
"He killed Jenny. And part of this is your fault Buffy. If you would have staked him when I told you to, none of this would have happened. Somebody will have to do it, and if it's not me, it might be Giles" he announced as he started walking towards the gate. Buffy grabbed his arm but he jerked away from her.
"Buffy don't try to stop me. Somebody's dead. Who's gonna be next? This, this fiend must pay with his life. He must pay for what he did. I've hated him for a long time. And now it's time for him to die." His forefinger was pointing her when he said that. On those words, he left her.

Buffy knocked at Giles' apartment hurriedly. She had run the whole way there hoping that he woudln't be already gone. She knocked louder on the imposing wooden door. "C'mon Giles," she said impatiently. When she realized nobody was there, she rushed up the steps and back in the street towards Spike's warehouse. She feared that both Giles and Xander might have gone there and God knows what they could have done. Her heart started to flutter as she thought of Angel's death. She wasn't ready for that. She didn't want her love to disappear. Somewhere, deep inside her, she knew that Angelus should die, but not Angel. He had nothing to do with all the horrible things Angelus did. But she also knew that if Angelus would die, so would Angel. She didn't desire that at all. She wished everything could get back to the life she had before that night. The one she spent in Angel's loft making passionate love. The night he lost his soul and turned bad. She felt guilty for being selfish, naive and stupid. She should have known that one moment of true happiness would turn Angel into the beast he once was. But she wanted, needed him so much that she didn't care forthat only night. Now, her friends were suffering from Angelus wicked ways of harassing them, driving them crazy. When she reached the warehouse, it seemed like nobody was there. She was too late. It all happened. The nightmare had ended up in a way she didn't want it to be. She had feared for the worst, but it was too much to handle. It hurt so much, even worse than if someone would have stabbed her through the heart. She collapsed to the floor and cried all the tears she had.

A few minutes before Buffy got to the warehouse
"Xander?! What are you doing here? Stay the hell out of this. It's none of your business," Giles growled through clenched teeth.
"I'm here for the same reason: to kill this bloodsucking fiend. And it's of my business. I hated Angel long before you did," Xander retorted. Giles pulled a stake out of his bag of supplies and handed it to him. He knew he couldn't make Xander Harris go away, so why fight against it. And he could be useful against Angelus. Giles could use Xander as a bait for Spike and Drusilla. The librarian had turned mad, crazy and he was completely out of control. He just couldn't accept the death of Jenny, he couldn't believe it. But what hurt the most was that she died before he could see her. She was supposed to drop by his apartment. Instead, he had found her lying in his bed, dead. Giles felt a strong urge of rage coming up inside him. As the rage kept increasing, he burst in. After that, it all happened so quickly. Giles rushed blindly toward Angelus, drew back his stake, but then a strong arm grabbed his wrist and took the stake away. Giles was taken aback. Then, surprinsigly, Spike stood up from his wheelchair and hit Drusilla hard in the back of the head. Angelus turned back and stared at Spike, astonished.
"I'm not as crippled as you may think Angelus," Spike growled. Xander entered the factory and jumped on Angelus. He punched him two or three times before the vampire retaliated with a couple of jabs. Xander was knocked out. At that moment, Angelus ran away before anyone could do something. Spike was still too weak to run after him, but Giles rushed after him. The demon was too fast for him, so he stopped, out of breath. He fell on his knees and buried his face in his hands. He cried all night long, the loss of his love. It was like hi heart was shattering into thousands of pieces. E loved her so much. He wished that this was just a terrible nightmare and that he would soon wake up to see her face, but it was painfully real. She was gone... for ever.
