Ocean

She stands on the beach. The warm damp sand between her toes. The breeze from the ocean brings a dampness to her cheek. She feels him, knows he is there. It reminds her of another time, standing in the sun, feeling him and turning to see him walk towards her. But she cannot remember clearly what happened that other time. All she remembers is the feeling in her heart, the joy and the pain.
Then he is there. Hesitant and shy. They both stand and stare out over the ocean, looking far in to the unknown.
And then they are facing one another
His hand gently reaches out. The softest of touches, a whisper of his flesh against her cheek. And she in turn a tentative hand towards his heart. Both of them, eyes barely believing what they see. The sun warms them, its heat making the cold leave both their souls, slowly slipping away into the shadows chased by the sun. She wants to speak, so many words and thoughts all tumbling to come out. She sees the same feelings mirrored in his face. But still no words. His hand firmer now cups her cheek, her hand rests over his heart. She leans into his touch, reaches up to hold the hand to her cheek, needing to feel him close. His hand holds hers against his heart. She looks up into his face and now she remembers the time before and a tear trickles down her cheek. Will this be the same? A tiny voice in her head begs that not to be the case. And finally she has the courage to look him in the eye.
‘Angel?’
‘Buffy’
He bends his head and she feels the gentle touch of his lips as though they had never left her. Their souls lift and they both know that all their lives they have been leading to this…
…fumbling towards ecstasy…
