IT'S OVER FOR THEM
Buffy ran out of the warehouse with Spike close behind. She paused at the bottom of the stairs, tears in her eyes.
Spike came and stood in front of her. "Buffy, I didn't want to hurt you," he said.
Buffy looked up at him. "Then what the hell were you trying to do?" She screamed and punched his chest weakily.
Tears fell down her face as her fists pounded on his chest. She kept pounding his chest until his arms encircled her. She collapsed against him and sobbed. She grabbed the front of his shirt as her body wracked with sobs.
Spike pulled her close to him. "Shhh," he whispered and rocked her back and forth.
Riley came out of the warehouse. "Buffy, you have to let me explain," he said, scowling at her in Spike's arms.
Buffy didn't pull away from Spike. She laid her cheek against his chest and sniffled. "Go away, Riley," she whispered.
"Buffy please," Riley pleaded.
Spike turned and vamped out. "Back off, Boy," he growled.
Riley snorted. "Is that supposed to scare me?"
Buffy sniffled. "Spike?"
Spike devamped and looked down ant her. "Yeah?"
Buffy looked up at him. "Take me home, please," she said, softly.
Spike nodded and scooped her up. He cradled her in his arms and walked toward her house.
At her house, Spike sat on the couch and held Buffy is his arms. He stroked her hair, and pressed his lips to her hair line.
Buffy's fingers traced patterns on Spike shirt as he held her. "Spike," she said, her voice raw from crying.
"Yeah, Pet?" He asked, not pulling away.
"I'm sorry I yelled at you. It's not your fault," she mumbled.
Spike pushed her away a little. He wiped her tears away gently. "You don't have to be sorry, Buffy. You were upset and you need to take you anger out by doing something," he said, giving a small smile. "And I propose you go up to bed and sleep."
Buffy shook her head and leaned up against him. "I don't wanna go up there," she whispered.
"Buffy, you need sleep," Spike said.
"Can't I just stay here and sleep?" Buffy asked shyly.
Spike's heart melted. "Yeah. I'll take you up before dawn, okay?"
"No, I mean, you can stay. I don't mind. I'm kinda lonely. Besides, Riley was just in my bed, so I really don't wanna go up there," she said, softly.
Spike kissed her hair. "Okay. We'll stay here." He laid down and Buffy snuggled on top of him.
Soon both vampire and slayer were sound asleep.

When Buffy woke, she felt a little confused when she was in the living room and laying on Spike.
She remembered the previous night and tears came to her eyes.
Spike stirred moments later, and hugged her closer to him. "Shh," he whispered.
Buffy buried her face in his chest and willed her tears to stop.
After a while she picked her head up and pushed herself up. "He's not worth crying over," she said, softly.
Spike smiled and stroked her fingers. "You should really talk about it. Maybe with Red," he said.
"I will. Just not yet." She carefully got off him. "Um, Spike, I don't know if we have any blood," she said, going to the kitchen.
Spike got up and followed her. "Don't worry about it. I can wait," he said.
Buffy smiled at him. "Thanks."
"For what?" Spike asked with a raised eyebrow.
"For taking care of me," she said, ducking her head a little.
Then the front door came open and Dawn came bounding in with Willow. "Hey Buffy. Hi, Spike," she said, gleaming at the vampire.
"Hey, Nibblet. Long time, no see," he said, ruffling her hair.
Dawn smiled and looked at Buffy. "You okay?"
Buffy smiled at her little sister. "Yeah. I gotta talk to Willow though," she said, taking Willow to the living room.
"What's up Buffy?" Willow asked.
"Riley was paying vampires to bit him. Spike found out and he took me to see for myself," she said, softly.
Willow frowned. "Oh, Buffy," she said, softly. "Did Spike stay with you?"
Buffy nodded. "I asked him to. He didn't seem to mind, though."
"You like him," Willow said.
Buffy's eyes widened. "I do?"
"Just a little," Willow said, smiling.
Buffy blushed. "Well, I think I'm gunna try it."
"How do you know he feels the same?" Willow asked.
"Because I saw it in his eyes. He was really upset that I had to see that, but I let him know that I wasn't mad at him for it," Buffy said, smiling.
Willow shook her head. "I'm gunna take Dawn to the magic shop. You gunna be okay?"
"Yeah. Spike's here so I'll be fine," Buffy said, standing.
Dawn and Spike came in, laughing. "I'm ready," she said to Willow.
"Be careful you guys," Buffy said, smiling.
Dawn and Willow disappeared and Buffy looked up at Spike. "You seem really close to Dawn," she said, smiling.
"Yeah. It's something in the Summer's women," Spike said, shaking his head with a smile.
Buffy smiled and nudged him lightly. "You fit right in our family don't you."
"That a bad thing?" Spike asked looking down at her.
"Not anymore," Buffy said, softly.
Then there was a knock on the door.
Buffy opened it and there was Riley. "What do you want?" She asked.
"I wanna talk to you," Riley said, going inside. He scowled at Spike. "What's he doing here?" He spat.
"None of your business," Spike growled, stepping toward Buffy.
"Riley, I don't really wanna talk to you," Buffy said, as Spike stood next to her.
"Well, we have to have this out," Riley said.
"No! You cheated on me with vampire whores. What could they possibly have that I don't?" Buffy asked, tears streaming down her face.
Riley sighed. "It wasn't like that."
"Then what were you trying to do? If your goal was to hurt me, then congratulations. You did. And nothing you say or do is gunna fix this. Nothing," Buffy said.
"Buffy, you don't eve know why," Riley said.
"But I supposed you're gunna tell me," Buffy said, softly.
"They mad me feel alive. I wanted to know why Dracula and Angel had so power over you," Riley said.
Anger rose in Buffy's eyes. "Angel was sick and the only way to cure him was to drink the blood of the slayer. He didn't want to but I forced him.
"As for Dracula, I was under his thrall. I was helpless to stop him. They don't have power over me, though," Buffy said, clenching her fist.
"Dracula bit you?" Spike asked.
Buffy looked up at him. "Yeah, and don't you start on me, too." Hurt came to Spike's eyes and Buffy regretted her words. "Look, Spike, I'm sorry. I'm just..."
"Don't worry about it," Spike said, brushing the hair out of her face.
Riley frowned. "I'm still a little lost in this whole cuddly issue," he said.
Buffy looked at him. "Riley, you don't need to know to know everything I do anymore. I don't wanna see you ever again," she said, going to the kitchen with Spike.
Buffy heard the front door open and close as she sighed.
Spike put his hands on her shoulders. "You okay, Pet?" He asked.
Buffy turned around and hugged him. "I didn't mean to yell at you," she whispered. "It's just... it has to be me."
Spike pulled away. "Whadda you mean?"
Tears came to Buffy's eyes. "Spike, Riley went to vampire whores. They must have something I don't. How come no one wants to be with me? Am I that cruel?" She whimpered.
Spike put his hands on the side of her face. "First off, he's a wanker. I don't know what his problem is, but any guy who gives you up, doesn't know a good thing when he has it. You're everything any guy could want and he's be lucky to have such a remarkable woman," he said, with a smile.
Buffy walked closer to him and kissed him softly.
Spike responded gently before pushing her away. "Buffy, you just broke up with Captain Cardboard."
"I know, but it won't take long for me to forget about him," she said, with a smile. Then she grew serious. "I have to tell you something and Giles is the only other person who knows besides Mom. Spike you have to promise not to tell anyone," she said.
"I promise," Spike said, softly.
Buffy led him to the couch and they sat down. "It's about Dawn. She's um.... not real. She's living energy. There's a demon, named Glory, and she's really strong. If Glory gets her hands on Dawn, it could be the end of the world. The memories everyone has of her are fake. She's only been with us for a few months. Mom knows. She just found out last week and I promised to keep her safe," she finished.
Spike's eyes were wide. "Are you sure?" He asked.
Buffy nodded. "Yeah. The others can't know because they'd start acting weird around her. I don't want Dawn to know," she said, softly.
Spike sighed. "Is there anything you need be to do?"
Buffy looked at him. "I just need you to be here. Dawn likes you, Mom likes you, and I like you. It'd be nice to have someone look after Dawn. And you're good at keeping a straight face. No one would suspect that you know anything," Buffy said.
Spike reached out and stroked her hair. "I'll be here no matter what," he said, softly.
Buffy smiled and wrapped her arms around him. "Thank you," she whispered.
Spike wrapped his arms around Buffy and buried his face in her neck.
Then Xander came through the front door. "Buffy, Dawn said..." he paused when at Buffy in Spike's arms.
Buffy pulled away from Spike. "What about Dawn?" She asked.
"She said you were upset," Xander said.
"I was, but I'm okay now," Buffy said, smiling at Spike.
"What happened?" Xander asked.
"Riley cheated on me with vampire whores," Buffy said, softly.
Xander frowned. "Oh," was all he could say.
Buffy looked at Spike then back at Xander. "Yeah. 'Oh' is right."
"Are you guys gunna work through it?" Xander asked.
Buffy shook her head. "No. It's over," she said, softly.

A few hours later, Buffy and Spike went patrolling. The nights was really slow. The only thing that they found was a new fledgling.
After a few minutes, they ran into Riley.
"Buffy, we really need to talk," Riley said.
"No. We really don't. Nothing to say. You cheated on me. That's it. Stay away from me and the people I care about," Buffy said, walking away from him.
Riley grabbed her arm. "Buffy..."
"Take your hand off me before I break it," Buffy growled.
Riley released her arm. "Sorry, but we need to talk about this," Riley said.
"Do you not hear the words coming out of my lips?" Buffy walked up to him and got in his face. "I hate you and if you come near me again, or my mom and Dawn, you better make sure you have a death wish," she said. She backed away from him and began walking deeper into the cemetery.
Spike went up to her and touched her shoulder.
Buffy turned and punched him. "Oh God, Spike. I'm sorry," she said, tears in her eyes.
Spike checked to see if he was bleeding and sighed in relief when there was none. "It's okay Luv. You didn't know it was me. Lets finish patrolling," he said, walking next to her.
Buffy wiped her eyes. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to," she said, softly.
Spike wrapped his arms around her shoulders and gave her a comforting squeeze. "I'm okay. Don't worry about it," he said, kissing the top of her hair.
Buffy nodded and her fingers tenderly touched his nose.
Spike nuzzled her fingers fondly. "I'm okay. There's no permanent damage."
"I really didn't mean to," Buffy whispered.
Spike leaned his forehead against hers. "Buffy let it go. I can take it," Spike said, softly.
Buffy kissed his nose softly and sighed. "Okay. Let's find something to kill," she said, slipping her hand into his.
After a few minutes a few vampires attacked which Buffy staked easily.
She looked at Spike. "That's better."
Spike went up to her and pulled some twigs out of her hair. "You okay now?"
Buffy nodded. "Yeah, I am actually," she said, as they began walking toward the gate.
Her hand slipped into his and she led him toward the hospital.
"Pet, where are we going?" He asked.
"To see mom. You don't have to if you don't want to," she said, softly.
Spike wrapped his arm around her shoulders. He kissed her hair. "I do, Pet. Come on. Then you should get home and get some sleep," he said, keeping his arm around her.
Buffy and Spike walked through the doors. They made their way to her mom's room and took a peek.
Joyce was propped up and flipping through magazine.
"Hey Mom," Buffy said, coming in with Spike attached.
"Hey Honey. Spike, I haven't seen you in a while," Joyce said, as Buffy sat on the bed.
Spike smiled at her as he stood next to Buffy. "Been busy," he said.
Joyce smiled. "I'm surprised to see you guys here together," she said, looking back at Buffy.
"Spike was talking care of me, cuz Riley and I are through," she said, softly.
Spike rested his hand on Buffy's shoulder and Buffy's crept to his.
Joyce's smile faded. "What happened?"
"Riley was paying vampire whores to bite him and he blamed me. So we're not together anymore. He won't leave me alone though," she said.
"Oh Honey," Joyce said, sympathy in her eyes.
Buffy smiled. "Don't worry. Spike too care of me," she said. "He's been taking care of us since you've been in the hospital," she said.
Joyce smiled. "Well that's good," she said,
Buffy smiled at her mom. "Well, I guess we should go so you can sleep," she said, kissing her mom's cheek.
Buffy and Spike said goodbye and left.

At the house, Spike tucked Buffy in bed. "Goodnight, Pet," he said.
"You can stay you know," she said, smiling.
"Yeah, I know," Spike said, smiling. "Playing the noble act."
Buffy smiled and closed her eyes. "Goodnight Spike," she whispered.
"Goodnight Luv," Spike said, and quietly left.
