A hero
One who will protect you
no matter what,
who will stick by you
no matter how bad it seems.
Nobody knows what they can do
until they’re tested
and suddenly knows
that they’re no going to make it to
tomorrow
A hero
won’t know he’ll be missed
or how much she loved him
or how the world will be lonelier
because he isn’t here.
He won’t know
that the words he spoke were true.
Heroes
still exist
in this world.
A hero
will give his life willingly
but not knowing
that people will remember him
and she’ll wonder
if his true face could be
learned to love
or if that dinner date
would be fun.
A hero
won’t see her
as she sits dried eyed
and remembers
how close they could have been
and the times they shared
or the talks they could have been
and the single kiss they shared,
or the secrets they shared.
They’ll never complain
or talk at all.
He’s gone.
