Disclaimer: I do not own Buffy. Or Riley. Or Angel, and belive me, I wish I did. Anyway, it wont do any good to sue, cuz i'm borrowing the characters and i'm broke. I also do not own VAST or anything produced by VAST
Author's Notes: This is an 'interlude piece. I haven't written in a while, so I'm kind of rusty. The song is By VAST (Visual Audio Sensory Theater) and is an absolutley amazing song. I highly recommend the album, for the son 'Touched'

Outside, the rain poured down and pelted the roof, and window pains. The rumble of thunder shook the foundations of the fraternity house. Strong winds rattled tree branches outside the window and made them scratch the glass of the window panes.
Buffy tucked her head against Riley’s sleeping body and squeezed her eyes close, wrapping her arm around him.
‘It was like this that night,’ thought Buffy. She tried to push the thoughts out of her head, ‘Don’t think about it, don’t think about it’, she told herself. But she clung onto Riley tighter, an inner fear tugging at her, implying the worst, that she’d wake up and Riley would be gone. She didn’t think of it very often, only on nights like this, when the memories would haunt her. Riley stirred in his sleep, and rolled over towards Buffy and opened his eyes. Buffy lifted her head up and looked at him.
‘What’s the matter?’ asked Riley, with a half grin.
‘Nothing,’ whispered Buffy, lying. Riley kissed her softly on the lips and stroked her hair. Thunder boomed and Buffy clung to Riley tighter.
‘Don’t tell me the slayer’s afraid of thunder,’ laughed Riley.
‘No,’ said Buffy, then thought to herself, ‘I’m afraid of loosing you’
Riley kissed Buffy again, this time longer and more tender. He ran his hand up and down her arm and under the covers.
‘Not now,’ thought Buffy, but she let herself fall into his touch.
Through the heat, the rhythm, Buffy heard her heartbeat thump, as lightning lit up the room, and for a second, Riley could have been ‘Him’. Riley kissed her deeply, and Buffy felt her heart drop, as a hallucinogenic like clarity washed over her, the lighting hit again, and Riley was Angel. In the darkness, Riley touched Buffy’s skin…
touched...
you say that i am too
so much of what you say is true
I’ll never find someone quite like you...again
I’ll never find someone quite like you, like you
A sob caught in Buffy’s throat, ‘Quite!’ she screamed inside.
A crystal cathedral of golden light pierced through Buffy’s vision, an ethereal brightness, she was out of her own body.
‘Angel’ she whispered inside herself, ‘I’m so sorry…’ she listened to her heartbeat, and the other heartbeat so close to hers, then so far, then close again. ‘Is it possible,’ she wondered as Riley loved her, ‘to love two people with all your heart and soul? It must be…because I do…’ her thoughts drifted off again. The lightning flashed and Riley was Angel. She was in her body again. A longing so painful it stabbed her heart arose in her, as she loved Riley back.
the razors and the dying roses plead
I don't leave you alone
the demi-gods and hungry ghosts, god
god knows I’m not at home
I’ll never find someone quite like you again
I’ll never find someone quite like you again
The thunder, the heartbeats, the sound of breath, Buffy was haunted by something she could not define. She buried her face in Riley’s neck, fighting back tears. People, long dead, found their way past his shoulder and assaulted Buffy, blaming and persecuting her. A memory of Angel, looking into his deep, eternal eyes and not seeing her own reflection, a taste of immortality in itself. His skin. His smell, like ancient spice. She bit her lip as Riley came, and pulled away looking into her eyes.
I looked into your eyes and saw
a world that does not exist
I looked into your eyes and saw
a world I wish I was in...
I’ll never find someone quite as touched...as you...
I’ll never love someone quite the way that I loved you.....
A torrent of tears poured out of her eyes, seemingly surpassing the downpour outside.
‘Buffy?!,’ asked Riley, ‘what’s the matter?!’
Buffy shook her head and wrapped her arms around Riley as she sobbed, burying her head in his chest.
Riley stroked her head, ‘Buffy, why didn’t you tell me?’ he asked, ‘if you didn’t want to…’ he stopped as she clung to him and cried. ‘Shh,’ he hushed, petting her hair, holding her tight, ‘it’s okay,’ There were some things he knew he had to let alone. And so he held her, as the rain poured down outside.
‘I love you, Buffy,’ he whispered into her floral scented hair. Buffy cried harder and Riley decided to let it be.
And so they lay there in the darkness, clinging to one another. And when she tired, Buffy dreamt of Angel…and a life that would never be possible. And of a life with Riley, that was possible. And Riley held her all the while.
I’ll never love someone quite the way that I loved you…
