Her toes were poking out from under the throw and he was still amazed at how the tiny red heart on her big toe made him smile. He touched it with his thumb and she growled in her sleep pulling her feet under the throw as the vampire left her in search of the packets of blood he'd left in the refrigerator.

"You're pissed."
"Am not," Dawn slurred, poking him in the chest.
"Prove it."
The brunette stood up as straight as she could manage and pushed Spike's hands away as she began to sway, "Fine, move and I'll walk in a straight line, Mr. Not Drunk."
Spike shrugged, the smile not leaving his face as she stumbled forward for five steps before attempting a clumsy pirouette and skipping back to him.
"See." She poked him in the chest again, "Not drunk."
"Fine." He tucked an arm across her shoulders and they disappeared into the scungy looking building with the bright flashing neon sign in the window.
"I want that one."
Spike hadn't let go of her once they'd set foot inside; he knew she was drunk even if she didn't agree with him. They'd probably get turned away anyway, he was pretty sure there was some rule that they had to turn away drunks in case they woke up the next morning and felt like suing.
"It's pretty, Love." Spike bit his tongue against the stencil she'd picked, it didn't suit her at all; the green giant's head with a sword stuck through it. But the blond vampire knew that if he disagreed, Dawn would get it just to spite him.
"Like the dragon from the tower." Dawn giggled and they moved across to the next wall, "Remember when Buffy had to slay it, we used Willow's Joan of Arc costume. She was all 'I'm Buffy the dragon slayer' but, she looked like a complete git." She smiled at him triumphantly as though to prove that by mastering at least one of his words she was worthy of him.
Whenever she did that the vampire wanted to crush her against him, he was the one that didn't deserve it, she never had to prove herself to him.
"So maybe not the dragon?"
"Nope, it was ugly!"
He rolled his eyes; he could barely understand her when she was sober. This was going to be a long night.
"So have you picked anything out?" The woman was looking straight at him and Spike pointed to Dawn who was still scouring the walls.
"Not for me, I like my skin the way it is. Got enough scars without needing to add a picture."
The woman frowned at him, she was covered in ink but then again she probably hadn't enjoyed shoving spikes through people's skulls.
"Dawn, lady wants to know what you want."
"Love heart on my left big toe."
His eyes widened as she came to stand next to him, she'd been putting it on the whole time because he knew she couldn't get a tattoo drunk. He never would have brought her into the tattoo parlour otherwise.
"You little--"
Dawn grinned and kissed his cheek, "I learnt from the Master. So, wanna watch?"
The woman grunted at her comment but Dawn ignored and moved to stand in front of Spike, threading her fingers through his, "Come on, I know you want to."
"Watch you suffer? Not likely. I'll wait for you out here."
"Wuss," Dawn teased and turned towards the woman, "Ok, lets get this little piggy painted."
Spike sat hunched over in the chair, he'd already crushed its plastic arm when he'd heard Dawn's first screams of pain but he refused to support her tarnishing her skin. They'd subsided anyway, after the initial shock, his ears could still pick up the grating of her teeth though and he tried to concentrate on the magazine in front of him instead.
When she finally came out she was half hopping half limping over to him holding her stilettos in one hand and grinning triumphantly.
"She's going to have to keep off the toe at least until the bleeding's stopped." The woman directed the comment at Spike and then turned back to Dawn, a smile suddenly appearing on her face, "Now if anything goes wrong just call, Joey's the guy you want to talk to if you can't get me but, hopefully we won't see you back here kiddo--unless of course you want another one."
Spike glared at her as she winked and in one fluid movement scooped Dawn into his arms, much to the delight of the brunette who kissed him as she fumbled around in her purse for the money.
"Thanks Gina, maybe next time I'll get this one to get my name tattooed on his arse." She flicked her tongue in as she said that and Spike wanted to growl.
"At least if we break up your name has another meaning."
"Yeah," Dawn muttered as they headed towards his bike, "Except that wouldn't work because of your whole burn-up factor. Face it Spike." She kissed him again and pulled back smiling, "We're stuck with each other."
She didn't realise that he heard her add, "Til death do us part" under her breath. Spike clutched her closer, smiled and pressed a kiss to her head, he was going to stand by her side no matter what, wrinkly heart tattoo included.
