Angel: The Series > AtS - Season Five
Cookie by Angel1919
[Reviews - 2]

“Angel!” Harmony’s ever cheerful, annoying voice echoed through the quiet office. “Your 3:00 is here.”

“Just a minute!” Angel buzzed back nervously. “How do I look?”

“Just great Angel-cakes,” Lorne winked at him, “but lose the stuffy face.”

Doing a mental check and absently patting his pockets Angel murmured, looking confused, “stuffy face...” He stopped once he realized what he was doing and gave his green shaded friend a half smile.

“That’s better!” Lorne smiled as he walked towards the door. “Knock her dead!”

“Right.” Angel said under his breath as he watched Lorne greet her and pointed towards his office.

When Buffy Summers made an entrance, she did it well! All time seemed to slow as she walked casually through his office and right back into his heart.

Making a conscience effort not to stare, Angel smiled politely when she looked at him. A wide grin made it’s way across her face when she noticed how he was trying to be nonchalant. He noticed he was holding an unneeded breath and exhaled slowly.

“Nice to see you too!” She said as she walked over to him and hugged his tall frame.

He visibly relaxed once he knew that things between them were ok, for now. Moving his lean hands over her sheer pink top, Angel laid his cheek against her honey blonde hair. He inhaled her clean, vanilla scent and smiled. “I missed you.”

“I missed you more.” She teased as they broke the passionate embrace.

“I doubt that.”

“Let’s not start.” She laughed. Crossing back to the front of his desk, Buffy sat in the flame red chair and slid on impossibly long, tan, and silky leg over the other.

Saliva pooled in Angel's mouth as he trailed the shadowly line of her legs up to where the short black skirt cut off his view. It came to him that he was staring and he ripped his gaze off her body and to her face. Europe had been good to her. Her skin was tanned and flawless. Her eyes were the eyes of the Buffy he had once known, long ago.

“Done oogaling?” She smiled, glad he had taken notice.

“Want the truth?”

“Of course!” Her eyes gleamed.

“Never.” Angel came to sit in front of her on the desk. She had noticed a few things about her former lover, herself. Tired was the first thing that came to mind. Running an evil law form probably had it’s down falls, she thought. He still looked like a million bucks though, tired or not (and the suit didn’t hurt any either).

“ It shouldn’t have taken so long for you to come.” he said quietly, looking at and ancient sword instead of her offended eyes.

“Things had to be put in order before I could take off.” She defended herself. “There are a lot of very confused girls in the world right now, and because I did it to them, I want to help them.”

“I understand.” She looked angrily way from him. “No, seriously, I understand. By the way, since you did that spell, California crime rate has dropped 6.8%.”

“Really?!”

“Yeah! Apparently your girls are taking it anymore.”

“Good.”

Silence stomped loudly through the cavernosus office once the initial conversation was over.

“Angel, I want you to know-“ how could she put it? I’m a woman now? I’m ready? “I’m a cookie.”

“Cookie? Is that some kind of a girl scout group?” Angel asked confused.

He had forgotten their last conversation! How could he forget?! “Never mind. It was dumb. I just-“

Realization came so hard, it almost knocked him over. “Your cookie?” he asked, arching his dark eyebrows.

“Yes, cookie.” She smiled on a sigh.

Angel didn’t hesitate. He jumped up, grabbed Buffy’s hands and pulled her out of his chair and into his arms. He posed her mouth, then her head, and finally her heart.

They came up for air a few minutes later and Buffy laughed breathlessly. “So... do you want a cookie?”

“I love cookies!” Angel started, then looked away, slight hurt flashing across his handsome face. “But what about Spike?”

“Huh?” she asked, confused by his question. “What about him?”

Angel broke his hold of her and walked dejectedly towards the windows. Altered sun beat down on his pale face as he looked sadly at the surrounding buildings. “You were with Spike. Not that I care now, but it hurt at first. Oh, then what about Mr. Marine? God I hated him!”

“Angel,” Buffy started as she walked a round his desk. “Spike was there for me when you had to be here. I love Spike too, Angel. I’m sorry, but he’ll always have a place in my heart.”

“But my place is bigger, right?” he asked as he turned to face her.

“Angel.” Buffy warned.

“Sorry.” He ducked his head. “I don’t like to share.”

“Your not sharing, Angel! Riley and Spike were there when I couldn’t have you. They filled in when I needed someone. They were just-“ Buffy strained to think of the right word. “Substitutes.”

“Substitutes?” Angel asked, rolling the word around in his mind. “But I’m the real deal, right?”

“You’ve always been the real deal.” She smiled as she slid her arms around his waist. Laying her head on his hard chest, she sighed. “Do you still want this cookie?"

“Forever.”
