Which one do I love more? Hell, do I love either one?
I'm stuck in this dirty, damp cellar with Dru. She won't let me leave until I tell her. So I'm stayin' for a while.
Okay, Spikey, time for a comparison/contrast essay. Take notes, there will be a quiz.
First up: Buffy. That hair, those eyes, that body. I moan softly thinking of our night in that cave. That night, something had woken up within me. Something was alive, maybe it was the last shred of my humanity clutching onto the only thing human to ever do that to me. For one night, that's what I'd told myself after the cave. Then that one night multiplied.
I told her she didn't have to stay with me, she was free to leave. She stayed. She made me realize that I'd never loved Dru, but my problem was, did I love Buffy? Was I turnin' into Angel?
Next on the agenda: Dru. She was beautiful, my Black Queen. I know the only reason with Dru was that she needed me. She'd been ill; the mob in Prague had nearly killed her. She needed me, but she didn't love me. Maybe that's why I always went back to her. It was safe. She needed me, therefore she'd always be there.
But with Buffy, it wasn't safe. Hell, she'd probably stake me if we got into a bad argument. But I knew one thing, Dru stayed with me because she thought she couldn't live without me. Buffy stayed with me because she wanted to.
Well, there ya go. Problem solved. Question is, will Buffy take me back? Probably not. But I had to try.
"Miss Edith says your decision is made," Dru piped from a corner. She'd spent the past hour playing with that damn doll.
"Good for her."
"Am I still your princess?"
"Not bloody likely." What was I saying? I'd never talked like that to her.
"Spike?" she begged. I fought it.
I had the strength of whatever I felt for Buffy behind me, be it love or what.
