--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The slayer and watcher committee was watching in dismay, as Buffy was failing miserably in her training exam against her uncoordinated watcher. Suddenly, there was a loud crash from the mezzanine section of the library. A vampire had somehow managed to get in through the small windows. Buffy and the committee looked up in surprise. The committee slowly began to get up from their seats and edge towards the door, but Buffy however, stood her ground.

The vampire growled and jumped from the mezzanine level to a table on the library floor. He then snarled and lunged at Buffy's neck. But Buffy deflected his attack with a perfect roundhouse kick, which sent him flying into the staircase banister.

The vampire picked himself up and charged once again at Buffy. Buffy quickly side-stepped his charge and caught him by the neck. She picked him up and threw him onto the library desk in front of the committee. She whipped out her stake, staked him, and smothered the committee with the vampire's ash.

She threw the stake in her bag, picked it up and went to leave the library as if nothing had happened. On her way out the door, she stopped, turned to the committee and said; "Didn't your mother's tell you not to play with fire." She flung open the library doors and walked out.

Giles turned to apologise extensively, but the committee interrupted him before he could even start.

"Keep up the good work, that slayer of yours, Buffy, is quite a character," one of the committee said.

"And she acted superbly on impulse, how was one to know there'd be a live vampire. Especially in the library, but, she handled that well," he said. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a silver bracelet that had a small diamante cross on it.

"Give this to the slayer, and tell her congratulations, she passed, we'll be seeing you in 6 months," he said as he and the rest of the committee left. Giles stood there, bewildered.

Buffy casually walked around the tombstones lightly tapping her fingertip against the end point of the stake. She became suddenly alert as the sound of a bush rustling was heard behind her. She raised her stake and positioned herself into a fighting stance. But, there was no vampire; just a messy, old watcher named Rupert Giles. She lowered her stake and relaxed. Giles had somehow managed to snag himself onto a branch on the bush. He still hadn't seen her. Buffy crept up behind him, crossed her arms and said, "Boo." Giles jumped and spun around, freeing himself from the clutches of the evil twig.

"Having a little trouble with Mr Bush?" Buffy sarcastically replied. Giles pushed his glasses higher up the ridge of his nose. He reached into his pocket and pulled out the silver bracelet. He dangled it in the air and plastered a huge grin on his face. Buffy snatched the bracelet from his grasp and gently admired it.

"Pretty," she said. "What's it for, or should I say, who's it for?" Buffy said gazing up at him adoringly, trying to persuade him to give it to her. Giles went to snatch it back out of her hand, but Buffy was that little bit quicker.

"If you must know, it's yours, you passed your training exam and that is your prize," he said. Buffy was about to put it on when she was brought to the ground by a blow to the head. She shook her head to clear her vision and said, "This isn't a good time to mess with me pal, I just received my slaying bracelet, it's right here…somewhere, but I do have it, just not right now."

Before the vampire could strike again, she made a ground kick at his ankle and knocked him off his feet. Buffy swiftly whipped out her stake and made a quick thrust to his heart. As he exploded, Buffy stood up and spat out the small particles of ash that had somehow got into her mouth. All the while, Giles had been crawling on the ground searching for Buffy's bracelet after he had seen it fall. Buffy came over and stood tapping her foot in front of him with an out stretched hand. Giles pulled out some grass and placed it into Buffy's hand, smiling. Buffy let the grass fall through her fingers and placed her hands on her hips.

"Funny. Where's my bracelet?" she said matter-of-factly. Giles stood up and brushed the grass off his knees.

"I…don't have it," he said. "Ever so sorry," he said sympathetically.

"You lost my slaying diploma? Now I can't even call myself a slayer, I'm a karma written, stake carrying, and super strong 16 year old. That's gonna look good on my job resume, which I'm going to have to get since I'm no longer a slayer, all thanks to a musty smelling book boy," Buffy fumed.

"You really liked that bracelet didn't you?" Giles enquired.

"Ya think," Buffy said sarcastically.

"Why don't you take the rest of the night off, you have had a hard day, and to top it off I lost your pretty bracelet," Giles said.

"Diploma," Buffy corrected.

"Diploma, goodnight, sleep well," Giles said walking away with his hands in his pockets. Buffy sighed out loud and gradually strolled home.

A night's sleep was exactly what she needed.

Out of the shadow's, the much-hated Angelus appeared. He crouched down and pulled out the silver bracelet from the ground. He lifted it up to his face and softly smelled Buffy's scent, which was still on it. A small smirk crept onto his shadowed face, as an evil plan seeped into his darkened mind.

Buffy and Willow entered the library, and sat down at their usual table. Buffy sat down in a huff and instinctively Willow moved slightly away. Just as Willow was about to break the uncomfortable silence, Giles leisurely came out of his office with a cup of coffee. Buffy stood up and tempestuously walked over to him. Giles slowly diverted his gaze from a pile of overdue library books to Buffy.

"How are you feeling this morning Buffy?" he said anxiously.

"Fine, but incredibly better if I still had my sparkling diploma," Buffy said irritated.

"What diploma?" Willow timidly asked.

"I passed my training exam," Buffy said as Willow interrupted.

"Good for you, I knew that you didn't need to stud…stud search…I'll be quiet now," Willow whimpered as Buffy shot her a dangerous glance.

"Pardon, what was that Willow?" Giles asked because he hadn't heard what she had said.

"I said that…Buffy didn't need to do all the studying that she did do, she's a born natural," Willow said as she received a nod of approval from Buffy.

"I would go and patrol, but I don't have my slaying diploma so I'm just going to be a normal American girl. Talk, paint my nails, and go to the mall," Buffy said.

"I get the hint," Giles said.

"Hint, what hint, I was just stating the facts, there was no hint making," Buffy said.

"So all this moping, sulking…quick temper, is a normal daily routine?" Giles asked confused.

"Yep, perfectly normal, ask any 16 year old girl who had a bracelet that they really liked, lost by some old fumbling, computer-hating, book-loving, librarian!" Buffy said depressed as she stormed out of the library with her bag. Willow just looked at Giles and shrugged.

"Sometimes you want to kill her, and other times you want to…" Giles started, as Willow cut in.

"Hug her?" Willow said.

"I was going for strangle, but I guess hug is more optimistic," Giles decided.

A tall gaunt figure was stalking the cemetery grounds, looking for prey. But beware, it is no vampire, it is no bloodsucking creature of the night, it is…just hold that thought while we get on with the story. Buffy entered the graveyard unaware of this suspicious character. She wasn't interested in slaying; she wanted to find the bracelet. She crouched down, being careful not to wreck her new shoes by getting them dirty. She rummaged through the dirt looking for it.

"Well, they say that mud is good for your pores," Buffy commented. Meanwhile, the stranger watched from the shadows, and no, it's not Angelus. Angelus is at the gates of the cemetery. He just arrived.

Even though the stranger was making hardly any sound, Buffy could hear his rasping breath. She lifted her head up and began to rise. "Come out, come out wherever you are," Buffy called out as she saw some movement in the bush.

"Seriously, I know you're behind the bush so come out, I have more important things to do then play Hide and Seek," Buffy said aggravated. He slowly came out of the bushes and stood in front of her. His brown skin was almost transparent and extremely sagged. The blackness of his eyes made them look hollow, and his fingernails were sharp yellow talons.

"My, aren't you a pretty little devil, not," Buffy said taking out her stake.

"I don't know what you are, but I think I have to slay you. Then again, the only excuse I have to slay you is that you're butt ugly," Buffy said backing away. At that moment he thrust his hands towards the ground as a red light emanated from them. The ground mutated into a steep cliff-side with protruding tombstones everywhere.

"Ok, I guess I have 2 very good reasons to kill you, so if you don't mind, I'm gonna come over there and shove this pointy thing through your heart, ok?" Buffy said inching closer to him. Before she could kill him, he sank into the earth.

"Actually being able to see you would make this process a whole lot more easier for me," Buffy said as his hand shot through the earth beneath her feet and grabbed her ankle.

"Grabbing a girl's ankle and scaring the hell out of her is not a big turn on," Buffy said trying to get her ankle free. Angelus had spotted Buffy and had become to come closer. But when he saw a hand coming out of the earth holding her ankle, he stayed where he was.

The raeth daemos (earth demon) shot his second hand out of the ground and took hold of Buffy's other ankle. He pulled her feet towards him, which sent her tumbling down the newly made steep cliff. Buffy finally ceased her continuous rolling when she collided with a protruding tombstone. She lay in a mangled heap with blood slowly trickling down the side of her forehead. Raeth daemos made his way towards his victim, as he was just about to encase her in a wall of mud and drain the life out of her, Angelus cunningly pounced in front of Buffy's comatose body. He tensed up and growled, guarding his unconscious possession. He was warning the raeth daemos to stay off his territory. Raeth daemos slowly backed off thinking of a new strategy that would recapture his powerful life source. Angelus was left to contemplate what use his limp slayer could offer…
