The Witness
I am her damned jester.
Her mime in a glass cage.
I can't speak to her.
She wouldn't hear the words.
I can't hold her.
She wouldn't feel my touch.
Can't comfort her.
She can't feel the warmth of my arms.
I'm caged.
I just die when she cries her troubled tears,
And they run down her face.
Yet I can't wipe them away.
I feel the pain when her heart falls
And breaks into a thousand pieces.
But I can't help her put it together again.
When she hurts, I'm doomed to watch
With hands tied.
My heart bleeds with the pain of knowing.
I am her condemned puppet.
No voice of my own.
No actions and no control.
So I live with this curse.
I live with my burden.
Doomed to witness it all.
It's my unwritten responsibility.
I am her unofficial "watcher."
