Summary:You should probably read No Regrets first. This will make
more sense then. Shameless Xander and Buffy mush.
Xander stared at his wife sleeping. She was tangled up in the sheets curled
up closed to him. A small blissful smile on her face. Today was their tenth
wedding anniversary. Buffy's mom had taken the kids to spend the night at
her place. Xander and Buffy had gone out for a romantic dinner and returned
home for an even more romantic evening.
Xander still loved to watch her sleep. She was as beautiful today as she
had been the first time he had seen her on the steps of Sunnydale High
School. He lie next to her remembering that day. He had been trying to
skateboard and had fallen off when he tried to get a better look at her. He
had fallen hard that day and not just on the sidewalk. He had truly lost
his heart to her. Despite any other relationship he would have - Buffy was
it. He loved her then and he would love her forever.
He thought of the arguments over Angel. The slight estrangements they had
gone through over the years. They had long ago gotten past all of that.
Angel - what a hurdle to get over. Xander did realize that if not for
Angel, Buffy would not be his wife. He would always owe him a debt of
gratitude to Angel for loving Buffy enough to let her go. He grudgingly
admired him for that.
Xander brushed a stray hair from Buffy's face. She made a sigh in her sleep
and cuddled closer to him. He smiled to himself, remembering the first time
she had told him she loved him. Angel had been gone about a year, he was
believed dead. Buffy had been miserable, but Xander had been there for her.
He took it slow and didn't push at all. Then one night over dinner, she
said the words that made his life complete. He still remembered the
sweetness in her voice "I love you, Xander". His heart had almost burst
that night - she loved him - him - Xander Harris.
They dated another year before he asked her to marry him. He had been
afraid to ask, afraid she wasn't ready. He was wrong, she had practically
jumped into his lap, saying "yes" over and over again. He still didn't know
how he got through the wedding, she had been so lovely walking down the
aisle on her Dad's arm. She had been smiling at him, those green eyes
shining. He managed to say "I do" in all the right places and then she was
his wife. Buffy Anne Harris. It was still unbelievable.
They had been so happy. When they were married four years, Buffy got
pregant for the first of three children. It had been the second happiest
moment in Xander's life when she announced the pregnancy. He had loved
watching her while she was pregnant, she had been so strong during labor
and delivery and they had a beautiful son. He had been so afraid to hold
him at first, afraid he would break him. He and Buffy would watch the tiny
sleeping bundle for hours, unable to believe that they had created
something so precious, so wonderfully perfect. The two little girls births
followed shortly and Xander was in just as much awe with them as his first
child. He was proud of his wife and his children.
Xander shifted in the bed, putting his arm around the still sleeping Buffy.
He marveled at her beauty, age had only made her more beautiful in his
eyes. The guys at work teased him for not going out with the after work. He
always told them that "No bar can compare to what's waiting for me at
home." And he was sincere, he had never even considered looking at another
woman. He was that much in love with his wife.
Xander traced the outline of Buffy's face lightly with his finger. She
stirred, her eyes fluttering open. "Hey," she said softly.
"Hey, yourself," he replied.
"What are you doing awake?" She asked as she sat up in the bed next to him.
"Watching my gorgeous wife sleep," he answered honestly.
"You okay?" She asked him with a smile.
"Uh huh. I love you, Buffy."
"I love you, too." She said as she pulled him into a passionate kiss. He
returned the kiss just as passionately.
"Are you ready to do some more celebrating?" She asked in a husky voice.
"I'm always ready to celebrate with you!" He told her as their lips found
each other and they sank back under the covers.
