Title: Return to Sunnyhell
Disclaimer: Don’t own em
Season: 7
Summary: This was written right after the season finale of season 6, and Spike returns to Sunnydale, soled, and prepared to do anything to earn Buffys love. Then evil comes, and it wants Spike, and Angel, who has returned.
Spike stared out the windows of his black camaro at the open road ahead of him. He was returning to Sunnydale to settle things with Buffy once and for all. He had a soul now. Stupid demon had lied to him. Told him that if he passed all the tests he would get the bloody chip outta his head but instead had given him a soul. Now he was tormented day in and day out with memories of the evils he had done. *(If only Dru could see me now)* he thought as he knocked over the Welcome to Sunnydale sign.
Buffy Summers wandered the cemetery staked clutched tightly in her hand.
She hadn’t seen a vampire since the night Willow had left for England with Giles.
She had left the day after she had gone all evil and tried to destroy the world. She wasn’t mad at her bestfriend though. She had been grieving and the magick had controlled her not the other way around. Buffy stopped suddenly realizing she was outside the front of Spikes crypt. She missed him, not that she’d ever admit it to anybody but he had been the only person who had ever really understood her except for Angel and Faith and those were two places she was so not going. All thoughts of Angel and Faith left her very suddenly though as she felt a familiar presence. Spike was back she thought joyously and not far away.
Spike stopped a few feet away from Buffy knowing that her slayer sense alerted her to the fact that he was there. "When did you get back?" Buffy asked breaking the silence, not turning around. "A few hours ago." He answered the slayer, his archenemy and the first women he had ever truly loved unconditionally. "Oh." She turned around and looked at him studying his profile, there was something different about the peroxide blond vampire but she couldn’t quite put her finger on it. "I have a soul now." Spike said as if reading her mind. Her blue green eyes widened "Oh!" she said "Maybe you should sit down." Spike said and reached tentatively for her arm. Buffy just nodded and allowed him to lead her into his crypt. He set her down on a chair and Buffy, haven gotten her senses back was starting to get pissed "Alright William start talking."
"So basically you’re telling me that after you almost raped me you went to Africa to get the chip outta your head but ended up getting a soul." Buffy said. Spike nodded and Buffy’s eyes hardened "So what do you expect us to go back to being fuck buddies again just because you got a soul?" she asked still pissed at him for taking off without a word then just showing back up and dropping this bombshell on her. Spike didn’t answer her and she gave him a punch that sent him flying halfway across the room. "Dammit slayer! Can’t you ever not resort to violence?" he yelled losing his temper for the first time in a long time. "No." she answered with a smirk. And then they were fighting, punches and kicks flying everywhere hitting any part of the others body that they could. Finally exhausted they dropped to the floor in a heap. "Feel better?" Spike asked "Yes." Buffy answered and then she fell asleep.
"When was the last time you got a full nights sleep?" he asked the Slayer as she awoke, a full 24 hours later, strangely in her own bed. "I don't know. I lost count weeks ago. How did I get here?" she answered. "I brought you over after you passed out. Didn't want the little bit and Red to worry." he answered. "Well Willow's not really in any position to be worrying if I don't come home." she said wryly. "Yeah Dawnie filled me in on all that. Can't believe Tara's gone. I didn't think any of the Scoobs ever stayed dead for good, Hell I didn't think any of the Scoobs ever died." All humor left Buffys eyes. "I did. So did Ms. Calendar, and Angel." He looked at her thoughtfully, "Right. But you came back both times, as did Angel, and though I didn't know the chick, I wasn't aware that Ms. Calendar was a Scooby at the time of her death." Buffy nodded. "You're right. She wasn't, but Giles loved her and Angel killed her. I still blame myself." He took her hand. "You shouldn't." She yanked her hand out of his and stood up. "Did you tell Dawn about your soul?" she asked. "Yes." "Good. I'm going to go call Xander, Anya, Giles, and Willow. I had a dream. Evils coming, and it wont stop until it destroys everything on this earth. I want you to call Angel, we're going to need everybody's help to stop this."
"What is it?" Buffy asked Spike, as he looked at her gravely. "When was the last time you talked to Angel?" he asked. "When my mom died. Why?" "Because a whole lots changed since then." "Like what? He still has his soul right?" asked Xander, who had arrived with Anya a few minutes ago. Giles and Willow were on their way. "Lets see, they got a new addition to the fang gang, some chick named Fred, Cordelia became a half-demon, and has suddenly disappeared, as has Angel. Nobody knows where they are, the last time Fred, Gunn and Connor saw them they were on their way to confess they're love for each other or something like that." Buffys eyes widened and filled with tears. Angel was gone, and he loved Cordelia. Of all people! "Wait. Whose Connor?" asked Xander. "From what I could gather he’s Angels son. I know vampires can't have babies, but for some reason after that evil law firm brought Darla back, and Dru vamped her, Angel went nuts, had sex with her and got her pregnant. She sacrificed herself so the kid could be born." Spike looked at Buffy, wondering how she was taking all this. She had completely zoned out, and had nothing but a blank, empty expression on her face. No pain, no grief, nothing. "So do they have any idea where Angels at?" asked Dawn. "Wesley thinks he might know. He's investigating that right now. As soon as they find him, and Cordy, they're coming straight to Sunnydale." Spike answered. "Oh. Okay then.”
''You okay?'' Spike asked Buffy later after everyone had left. 'I don't know. I'm worried about Angel; it's not like him to just disappear like that. Cordelia maybe but not Angel. Unless they did meet up with each other and get groiny, then its possible Cordy's dead, and Angel's working up some big master plan for world destruction.'' Buffy answered. ''I don’t think so. It’s not like Angelus to lay low for a few months planning. He would have hit hard and killed them all. With the exception of Connor who it turns out has all the benefits of being a vampire, like strength, super hearing, and night vision, without the sun allergy, and being dead part.'' Buffy looked at Spike, ''So he's human?'' ''Yeah'' Buffy laid her head on Spike's shoulder, not really caring what he or anyone that walked in might think. ''The love of her life had disappeared, and was presumed dead. Hopefully Wesley investigation panned out and they found Angel and Cordy soon.
Buffy fell asleep with her head on Spikes lap. She had been doing that all day, falling asleep off and on, zoning out, Spike was concerned about her. He thought about moving her up to her bed so that he didn't wake up with something wooden and pointed in his chest tomorrow, but she looked so peaceful, and he decided not to. She hadn’t been able to talk about the evil she had seen in her dream. Or dreams. She was terrified, which was a rare occurrence for her. Buffy had been a slayer since she was 14, nearly 8 years and there wasn't much the girl hadn’t seen. Shed faced vampires centuries of years old, pure demons, not the usual hybrid mix, even a god, and she still lived without fear. But this big bad had her shaking in her boots and he could only think of one evil that could cause that. And if he was right and the first was back then they all might be doomed.
Buffy woke up on her couch, and on top of Spike. ''What the hell!'' she shouted when she saw that her friends, along with some people she didn’t know, and Angel were just sitting there talking quietly amongst themselves. She jumped up *Angel's here, alive, and obviously soled which means he’s not dead. But where’s Cordy* she threw her arms around Angel, ignoring the looks her friends gave her. ''What the hell happened to you and why were you guys just letting me sleep? Especially you?'' she turned to Spike, who she realized had been awake the whole time and patiently waiting for her to awaken. Angel answered for the group. ''You needed to sleep, according to Dawn you haven’t slept well in months. And my darling son sent me to the bottom of the ocean.'' Buffy looked at the boy sitting next to Dawn who she guessed was Angel’s son. ''Then why is he here?'' ''Big evils coming Buffy, you said it yourself, the hellmouths getting all rumbly, and were gonna need all the help we can get.'' answered Willow who had just walked through the door with Giles, and some girls Buffy had never seen before. ''Alright, tell me what you know.''
"As far as we can figure out the First is planning on opening the Hellmouth." Willow said. "Yeah, I figured out that much, I'm not completely incompetent, my question is how?" Buffy replied. "Well we're not sure. What about your dreams? Have they been able to tell you anything?" Willow asked. "Only that the Bringers are killing the Potentials. And that there's an extremely ugly vamp on it's way to town." answered Buffy. Giles got a Look on his face and got a book out of his bag then handed it to Buffy. She opened it to the page he had bookmarked, "Yeah, that's it. The Teurakona whatever thingy. What is it?" she asked. "A type of ubervamp. Extremely hard to kill and almost pure demon. They only listen to beings of extreme power. Like the First." One of the Potentials, Buffy thought her name was Chloe, answered. "Did everyone get book training but me?" Buffy turned to Giles and pouted. "It is traditional, but you were hardly a traditional Slayer Buffy." he answered. "Yeah I've died twice, and lived to tell about it." she said softly. Xander interrupted, seeing the pain on his friend’s face "As fascinating as this conversation is shouldn't we get back to business?" he asked. "Yes-" Buffy was cut off by the sound of the telephone ringing. "I'll get it!" Dawn jumped up and ran towards the phone. "I wonder who that could be? Everyone I know is here." Buffy said thoughtfully. Dawn ran back in the room, "Buffy, it's the Council, they want to talk to you and Giles." Buffy smiled grimly and walked towards the phone with Giles.
20 minutes later they walked back into the room arguing. "Well how was I supposed to know I needed a fax machine. It's not like I use one on a daily bases." Buffy glared. "Well you should get one. It'd be much easier to fax the end-of-the-world prophecies to you then having to bring them to you ourselves." Giles argued. "Well it'll only take the Council guy a coupla days to get it here. And I'll get one as soon as I can afford to. If we live that long." She looked at Spike who wasn't looking too healthy. "Are you okay?" she asked the bleached vamp, who she suspected she was falling in love with. He looked at her and went all warm inside at the look of concern on her face. "I'm fine. Just tired." he answered. "And hungry. He hasn't eaten at all in the last two days." Dawn broke in. Buffy glared at Spike. 'Why didn't you say anything?" she asked. "Because I'm fine. I'll eat later, when their isn’t an apocalypse going down." he answered and Angel stood up. "No. We'll go get some blood. Buffy and I need to talk anyway." he said. Buffy agreed, and grabbing Spikes duster they walked out into the night.
"You're in love with him." Angel finally said after a few moments of awkward silence. (*How can he know that when I'm not even sure? *) Buffy asked herself silently. As if reading her mind he answered her. "I can see it when you look at him. He's a good man now Buffy, and Dawn obviously loves him very much. Everyone else cares about him too. Except Xander. I think even Giles respects him." Buffy snorted then smiled sadly. 'He is. And would you like Spike if he slept with your ex-fiancé whom you still love while claiming to love your bestfriend? And then he almost raped me-" Buffy stopped short at the look of pure rage on Angel's face. "It's okay Angel. We worked it out, and I don't think he really meant to or even realized what he was doing. He was crazed. We all were. It was a bad time for all of us." Angel accepted the explanation but she could tell he didn't understand. Suddenly angry she turned and glared at him. "You have no right to be angry. We've been over a long time. We don't even live in each others worlds anymore, we haven't talked since Willow brought me back, that was over a year ago. Besides your in love with Cordelia." He looked at her, stunned.
"How did you know?" he asked. "Fred told Spike, Spike told me. I didn't believe it at first but..." taken over with rage she started screaming, "God, How could you. I loved you so much, and I thought you loved me too. But then you leave me so I can have a normal life, well what about Cordy? Doesn't she deserve a normal life too?" Angel grabbed her by the shoulders. "Cordelia doesn't or didn't have a choice of a normal life when I fell in love with her. She was already half-demon and getting mind splitting visions." Buffy snorted, "And I did? I'm the Slayer for God's sake. I've risked my life everynight since I was 15 and the only joy I had left me. That would be you. Two out of the three men I've loved have been vampires, and the other one was a demon hunting solider who got kicks outta letting vamp whores suck his blood. The one normal, human guy I fell for fucked and dumped me. So don't come around here, into my world and tell me how to live my life!" she punched him. He went to hit her back and stopped short at the look on her face. He wasn't so sure she wouldn't stake him now given the chance. "Let's just get the blood and go home." He said softly.
Buffys house was in shambles when she got back. *Oh God, Dawn, Spike* she thought. "Dawnie, Dawnie, where are you?!" she yelled out frantically. "I'm here." her little sister croaked from the top of the stairs. She was covered in blood. She ran to her while Angel ran towards Giles. "What happened?" Buffy asked Dawn. "The Bringers. They came. Killed the Potentials, and then they took Spike. I don't know why were still alive." Dawn answered as she attempted to stand. "Don't. I'll carry you to the hospital." Buffy said as she gathered Dawn into her arms. "Angel how are they?" she called out. "They're okay. Willow might need some medical attention though. Xander got Anya out. Fred, Gunn, and Conner went for food and Giles and Wesley went to get some things from the Magick Box right before they hit. They thought Spike and Willow would be able to handle anything that hit,” he said, almost to himself. "Leave a note. Then we go to the hospital."
After everyone was patched up they headed back to the house. Except Angel. He had gone to learn what he could about the Bringers. He was supposed to call and check in soon. Buffy was up in Dawns room with Willow. She was trying to comfort Dawn, while Willow tried to comfort her. Xander ran up the stairs, "Buffy, we have a problem." she wiped her tears and turned to face him, "What is it?" she asked. "Angel. He called to check in and there was a struggle. We think the Bringers got him."
"Alright everybody suit up and grab your weapons. We're going hunting!" Buffy yelled, but her family and Angels, who were starting to feel like hers, didn't move. "What. Are. You. Waiting. For?" she asked, punctuating each word with a tantrum like stamp of her foot. The two men she loved had been kidnapped by the most evil creature in the world and Buffy was not letting them die. Again. "Uh, Buff, I know you're upset, we all are, but Giles got those prophecy things faxed to the Magick Box since time is kinda of the essence here and we need to discuss them." Xander broke in. Buffy glared at him, but sat down on the couch she was standing by. "Alright, what did the prophecy say?" she asked. Giles looked at her gravely. "The prophecy says that the First is going to use the blood of the soled lovers of the Slayer to bring back the Teurokan." Buffy stood up, thinking Giles was done. "Fine, we'll find the First, kill the Teurokan and save Spike and Angel." she said. Giles held up a hand, "Wait. There's more. After the First brings back the Teurokan she's going to use some kind of black magick to make Angel and Spike human. After that the Teurokan we'll drain them and the hellmouth will open. The world as we know it will cease to exist." Buffy sat down. "Shit." she said, voicing everyone’s feelings with a single word.
"So what do we know about this Hurricarana thingy?" Buffy asked. "The Teurokan." Giles corrected. "Yeah, that, what do we know?" Willow opened a book and started reading. When she finished she closed the book and sat down next to Dawn. "Only that every slayer who’s ever faced one has died." Buffy rolled her eyes. "I've heard that before. Okay, Will, I need you, Giles, and Anya to work on a way to find Angel and Spike. Everyone else start training. We're going to be ready for this thing. Our friend’s lives depend on it.
The first changed into the form of Buffy and grinned wickedly at Angel and Spike as her Bringers cut them. "Isn't this fun. You two have been naughty boys, what with obtaining your souls, and loving Slayers, or the vessels of the Powers that Be, my two greatest enemies. But don't worry. All will be forgiven. You two are giving your lives for the greater good of evil everywhere." She turned into Drusilla and leaned close to them, whispering in a sing-song voice, "You're blood will bring a true vampire, the Teurokan, and with it your humanity and the end of the world." The Bringers lifted the circular disk the were chained to, so that it hung above the Teurokans resting place, and they began to bleed. As they bled the resting place opened, and the ugliest vampire the two had ever seen, one even more grotesque, and terrifiying than the Master came forth with a growl.
"You find them?" Buffy asked Willow. "We did." Her bestfriend answered. "Alright, let's go. Everybody grab a sword, and axe, anything that can behead, a regular stake ain't going to cut it here. Gunn stay with Fred, Conner you stay with Dawn, anything happens to her and I'll kill you myself. Xander, take Anya, try not to piss her off or have any badly timed end-of-the-world sex. And don't under any circumstances propose. Giles stick with Wesley, try and keep the British sticks out of your asses, Willow you’re with me. Can you do that spell you used before, when we were fighting, the one that gives you slayer strength?" the Slayer asked. Willow nodded. "Good, do it. If you can kick my ass you can probably kick his, especially with Magickal assistance. If we lose you, I’ll bring you back if it’s the last thing I do." The combined Scooby and Fang gang's paired up, and grabbing their weapons headed out into the night.
"Cama hama oui dooey. Ancient ones I call upon you, Onque Morocanasa Nempi Joedaina, Make those who were once great, lesser than the most unworthy." The First chanted the spell, but was interrupted by the Ubervamp flying into her altar. "Sorry to interrupt but you've got my boyfriend and I want him back." Buffy said as Willow attacked the Teurokan while their friends freed Angel and Spike. "No! Stop! You're to late, it’s already begun!" The First shouted. Suddenly a blue glow entered the hellmouth and Cordelia came down. "Stop." she said softly, as she touched the First and began to chant: "Lover of the darkness, Evil so ancient you have no name, let go of your pain. Move on. Get over it and join your brothers and sisters, take your rightful place in the upper plans." As Cordelia chanted the First took her true form, the form she'd had in her human days, a beautiful young women with long curly brown hair, and blue eyes. She nodded her thanks to Cordelia and stepped into the
light. She was going home.
"What happened back there? And where the hell have you been?" Buffy asked Cordelia when they reached her house and settled down in the living room with some hot cocoa. "Many years ago the First was meant to take her place with her Brothers and Sisters as one of the Powers that Be, but after a fight with her twin sister over the guy her sister loved she murdered the guy and her sister on their wedding night, and became the First Evil. Now she’s not and she’s gone home to her family." Cordelia answered as she settled into Angel’s arms. Buffy flinched at the sight but Spike tugged her into his embrace and she let go of her pain, like the First she realized it was time to move on. "Does this mean that evils gone for good?" Dawn asked. "No. Evils still out there. Vamps and Demons were around long before the First and will continue to be. The First was the Evil that lives in human beings, and her kind of evil was only part of the evil in demons, another will take her place. But we'll fight it. Oh and one more important thing. I can't believe I almost forgot." she looked first at Angel, than Spike. "The Firsts spell, while not making you completely human as was intended, enough of it was completed to make you part human-" Buffy broke in, excited, "What does that mean?" she asked, "Well if you'd let me finish a sentence it means that while they have a vampires need for blood, strength, and all their special abilities, like accelerated healing and limited weaknesses they can now go into sunlight and Angels soul is permanent. And most importantly, as payback for all the hell they've put us through they've made us all immortal. We'll still be the same, we'll just be young and pretty forever, and another Slayer will be called when Faith dies." Everyone jumped up excitedly and hugged each other. Evil was still out there, and would always be. And they'd always be there to fight it. They were strong and they would face life together.
