Dawn came into Buffy’s room with an unreadable expression.

“Dawnie, what’s wrong?” Buffy asked.

“Wesley just called. Cordelia died,” Dawn said.

Buffy’s eyes widened. “Are you sure?”

“Yeah, the gang’s waiting,” Dawn said.

Buffy stood up and took a shaky breath. “Ok. Angel’s gunna need me,” she said, throwing clothes into a bag.

“Buffy! Angel doesn’t need you,” Dawn said.

Buffy turned to her sister. “Yes he does. He was there for me when I lost…. I’m gunna be there for him. I know what he’s going through,” Buffy said, going to the car, with Dawn close behind.

A few hours later, Buffy was in the lobby of Wolfram and Hart. She saw Angel in his office and ran to him. “Angel?” She asked.

Angel looked up at her with tears in his eyes. “Buffy,” he whimpered.

Buffy went over to him and wrapped her arms around his neck. “Shhh. I’m here. I know it’s hard, but she wouldn’t want you like this,” she said.

“Buffy, you don’t understand,” he whispered.

Buffy wrenched herself away from him. “How can you say that to me?! I came to you after the battle and I told you what happened,” she whispered, tears falling down her face. “I didn’t hold anything back from you. You let me cry and scream and you had hope that Cordy was still alive. I watched Spike burn.

“You got to hold Cordy in your arms and love her. I tried to do that with Spike. I held him in my arms for 3 nights, but when I told him I loved him, he didn’t believe me.

“I loved him so much. I wanted my life to be with him. I lost everything but I cant replace him like everything else. I don’t know how to go on without him. No one can tell me how, because no one knows,” she cried.

Little did she know, Spike was in the lobby, and he heard every word. Dawn was sobbing in his arms, and Buffy was crying in Angel’s office.

Buffy stopped her ranting and collapsed against Angel as she sobbed. “I wish I could tell you how to make it better, but I cant because I don’t know myself,” she whispered.

Angel gently pushed her away and handed her a box of tissues. He noticed Spike in the lobby and motioned for him to come in.

“Dawn, I need to go to her,” Spike said, softly.

Dawn nodded and pulled away. “I know,” she said, wiping her eyes.

Spike went into Angel’s office and watched as Buffy sobbed. Angel was supporting her and her body wracked with sobs, and Spike’s heart broke.

“Buffy,” Angel said, hoping she would turn around.

“Sorry. I didn’t mean to yell at you its just… I love him so much,” she whimpered.

“It’s okay. I’ll give you a few minutes to yourself,” Angel said, looking at Spike before leaving, shutting the door softly on his way out.

Buffy put her hand on the edge of the desk as she tried to will her tears away.

Spike frowned and went toward her. He slipped his arms around her waist and pulled her close to him.

Buffy leaned up against him. “I’m dreaming. I’m upset and I would give anything to have you here, so you’re not real,” she said, softly.

Spike moved his lips up to her ear. “I am real, Buffy,” he whispered.

Buffy turned around and looked up into his eyes. “Spike?” She whispered, reaching up to touch his face as fresh tears glided down her face.

“Shhh. Buffy, I’m here Pet, and I’m not goin
anywhere,” eh whispered, gently.

“But how? You died,” she said, not able to tear her eyes away from his.

“I came back,” Spike said, wiping her tears. “I don’t know how, but I am. I wanted to go to you, but I was so confused,” he whimpered.

Buffy wrapped her arms around his neck as his came around her waist.

Angel watched as they slid to the floor, sobbing in each other’s arms.

The elevator opened and Faith came into the lobby. She spotted Angel and frowned. She ran over to him, not noticing the scene he was focused on. “He, I came I soon as I heard,” she said.

Angel pulled her close. “Thanks for coming,” he whispered, tears in his eyes again.

Faith tangled a hand in his hair and rubbed his back. “Was she in any pain?” She asked.

“No,” Angel said, shaking his head. “It was too much for her to handle so she just let go.”

Faith pulled away. “You should get some sleep,” she said. “I’ll got with you if you want.”

Angel nodded and looked at Wesley. “Wes..” he started.

“We’ll handle everything,” Wes said.

Angel managed a weak smile. “Thanks,” he said, going toward the elevator with Faith.

As they left, Buffy and Spike finally emerged from Angel’s office. “Hey, guys,” Buffy said, meekly.

Dawn smiled. “You guys okay?” She asked.

Buffy and Spike exchanged a look. “Yeah, we are.” she said, wrapping her arm around Spike’s
waist.

“Come on. We’ll take you to a place you can crash,” Gunn said.

They followed Gunn to the parking lot, then to the old hotel.

“We haven’t been here in a while, but make yourselves at home,” Gunn said.

“Thanks Gunn,” Spike said, as he let.

The three of them trudged upstairs, and attempted to sleep.

Tomorrow they would face the world, but for tonight, the world faded away.
