Spike woke and smiled at Buffy and Dawn. He slid from the bed and went downstairs.
Not 5 minutes later, Xander came in the door. “Spike, what are you doing here?”
“Dawn was in a car accident and I was with Buffy when we took her to the hospital,” he said.
“Is she okay?” Xander asked.
“Just a fracture,” Spike said.
“What happened?” Xander asked, sitting at the counter.
“According to Buffy, she went out with Willow and they went to see an evil warlock. Willow as high on magic and lost control of the car. The crashed into a cement pillar. Willow only suffered a minor head wound,” Spike said.
“Oh my god,” Xander said, as Buffy came downstairs.
“Hi, Xander,” she said, softly.
“Hey, Buff. How’s Dawn?” Xander asked.
“I’m okay,” Dawn said, coming into the kitchen.
Xander looked at her and frowned. “Dawnie,” he said, in shock.
“Close your mouth, Xand,” Dawn said. “I’m fine. Just pissed off at Willow.”
Buffy smiled a little as Dawn snuggled into Spike. “You cant stay mad at her forever, Nibblet,” he said.
“How can you say that?” Dawn asked, softly. “Spike, I could’ve died.”
Spike closed his eyes. “Yeah I know. You didn’t though,” he said, opening his eyes. “I knew you were in trouble and Buffy and I got there in time.”
Dawn wrapped her good arm around him. “Yeah, but I can stay mad at her for a little while right?”
Spike kissed her temple tenderly. “Yeah, you can,” he said.
“How long are you out of school for?” Xander asked.
“Only today,” Buffy and Spike said, then smiled.
“Come on guys,” Dawn pouted, pulling away from Spike.
“Buffy,” Spike whined.
“Dawn, stop turning Spike to mush,” she said, going over to them.
“Two days,” Dawn promised.
“No,” Buffy said, firmly.
“Pet, let…” Spike began.
“Spike,” Buffy said, kissing him softly. “Don’t even say it.”
Xander gaped at them with wide eyes. “Buff?”
Buffy reluctantly pulled away from Spike, and looked at Xander. “I know it’s kind of a shock, but please try to be happy for me,” she said.
“It’s gunna take some getting used to,” he mumbled.
Then Willow came into the kitchen, a bit guilty.
Spike instinctively pulled Dawn closer to him.
“I just thought you should know I’m going to England. Giles is going to help me,” she said.
Xander looked at her. “What? England?”
Willow nodded. “Lets talk before I have to
leave,” she said.
Spike watched as they disappeared into the living room, and relaxed.
Then Tara came in. “Hey guys. Dawnie, oh my god. Are you okay?” She whispered, going over to her.
“Willow got me in a car accident,” Dawn said.
“What?” Tara asked, with disbelief.
“She ran the car into a pillar since she was high on magic,” Dawns said.
“Where is she?” Tara asked.
“Living room talking to Xander. She’ going to England and Giles is going to help her with her problem,” Buffy said.
Tara smiled at Dawn before going to the living room.
Willow looked up when she heard Tara and shot to her feet. “Tara.”
“Dawn told me what happened,” she said. “You could have killed her!”
“I’m sorry,” Willow whispered.
“That’s not gunna make it better, Willow,” Tara snapped. “You need to go to England. You’re very dangerous.”
Willow’s eyes filled with tears. “Tara.”
Tara turned around and went back to the kitchen, with tears in her eyes as well.
Spike looked up and his eyes softened at Tara. “Glinda?” He asked, going toward her. “You
okay?”
“I left her because the magic was destroying our relationship and she almost killed Dawn as a result,” Tara said.
Spike slipped an arm around her shoulders and pulled her into a hug. “It’s better this way. I know Dawn shouldn’t have been hurt but you did the only thing you could.”
Tara buried her face in Spike chest and sobbed softly. “I love her so much.”
“I know,” Spike whispered, wrapping his other arm around her.
Buffy went over and rubbed Tara’s back. “I had to throw her out. I need to keep Dawn safe and Willow could go off the deep end at any time. I didn’t see any other way out,” she said.
“I know,” Tara said, lifting her head from Spike’s chest.
“You gunna need anything?” Spike asked, softly.
Tara shook her head and wiped her eyes as she looked at Dawnie. “I’ll be okay. Dawnie, are you sure you’re okay?”
Dawn nodded. “Yeah,” she said, softly. “You wanna go for a walk? Clear your head.”
“If that’s okay with you,” Tara said, looking at Buffy.
“It’s fine,” Buffy said, “Just be careful.”
Tara smiled a little and left with Dawn.
“They’re really close,” Buffy said.
“Always were,” Spike said, absently. “You okay?”
“Yeah,” Buffy said, looking at him. “Why?”
“Well, Red’s your best friend and I know this is hurting you. I don’t think you’re gunna be jumping up and down when she leaves,” he said.
“Yeah, it’ll hurt to watch my best friend go but she’ll come back. Dawn could’ve been killed, then what? You and I both would’ve chosen Dawn over Willow,” she said, wrapping her arms around him.
“Everything’s gunna work out,” he said. “Dawn will eventually forgive her and Willow wont be addicted to the magic the way she is.”
“How can you be so sure?” Buffy asked.
“Because these things always find their way of working out,” Spike said, kissing her hair softly.
“Kinda like us?” Buffy asked.
“Yeah,” Spike said. “You should talk to Read, before she leaves. Let her know she can come back.”
Buffy smiled. “When did you become so wise?” She teased.
“Had to when I fell in love with you,” he said, as she pulled away from him.
Buffy kissed him softly before disappearing into the living room.
Willow looked up at her with a guilty gaze. “I’m sorry.”
“I know. It’s better that you go before you hurt yourself or anyone else. I wanted you to know, that when Giles feels you’re ready, you can come back,” Buffy said. “It’s really hard for me to tell you to leave but I need to look out for Dawn.”
“I know, but she’ll never forgive me,” she said. “Neither will Tara.”
“Yes they will,” Buffy said, with a small smiled.
“Xander’s gunna drive me to the airport. We gotta go now,” Willow said.
Willow and Buffy said their goodbyes and
Willow left with Xander.
Buffy closed the door and sighed as she leaned against it.
Spike was there in the hall with sympathy in his eyes. “I never wanted to make you chose between your sister and your best friend.”
“I know,” she said, going toward him. “I’m sorry I was so mean to you.”
“It’s okay,” Spike said, kissing her forehead.
“I was scared,” Buffy admitted.
“Of what?” Spike asked.
“Of your love,” she said, looking at him. “Angel didn’t love me with out a soul. It scares me that you can. Sometimes, I think that you probably love me more.”
“I do,” Spike said, wrapping his arms tightly around her waist.
“I’m still scared, but please don’t hold it against me.” she whimpered.
“I wont,” Spike said, rubbing his hand up and down her back. “I’m always gunna be here and you never have to worry about me leaving. So take your time in figuring out what you wanna do.”
Buffy smiled up at him and hugged him tightly.
