Spike entered the Initiative caves and smirked when he heard skin meeting rock.
He rounded a corner and saw Riley taking his anger out on the wall. “You know that’s gunna hurt like a bitch in the morning.”
“What are you doing here?” Riley asked.
“Looking for you,” Spike said, going toward him. “Buffy’s waiting for you.”
“I’m not going to the doctors,” Riley said, going to swing his arm.
Spike grabbed his hand. “Buffy wants you to,” he said. “You’re dieing and it will destroy her if she loses you.”
“She doesn’t need me,” Riley said, looking at the bleached vampire.
“She may not need you but she wants you,” Spike said. “Known Buffy a long time. She’s stubborn and if you don’t go willingly, she’ll still make you go.”
Riley sighed in defeat. “Fine,” he muttered, going toward the exit.
Buffy ran to Riley when she saw him come out of the cave with Spike behind him. “We need to go. There’s not much time left.”
The next night, Spike came to visit Joyce.
Buffy walked into the kitchen and smiled despite herself. “Hey Spike,” she said, leaning against the door frame.
“How’s your boy?” Spike asked, sipping his hot chocolate.
“He’s not my boy,” Buffy said, going to sit next to him. “It’s over between me and him.”
“Why?” Joyce asked.
“Because he thinks I need someone with super powers, and I don’t,” Buffy said.
Spike smiled and wet to rinse out his mug. “You’re better off without him,” he said.
“You’re real supportive,” Joyce said, smacking him lightly.
Buffy smiled. “He’s right,” she said, standing up. “I’m gunna get some air.”
Spike watched as she went out to the back porch. “He’s not good for her,” he said.
Joyce smiled. “I know, but you shouldn’t rub it in,” she said.
“Dawn asleep?” Spike asked.
“Yeah,” Joyce said. “And I’m going up to
bed myself.”
Spike kissed her cheek. “Good night Joyce,” he said.
Joyce smiled. “Make sure Buffy’s okay,” she said.
“Always,” Spike said, going to the back porch. “I’m sorry.”
“For what?” Buffy whispered, tears evident in her voice.
“I shouldn’t have rubbed it in,” Spike said, sitting next to her. “It’s not my business whether or not
you’re with him.”
Buffy bowed her head. “Why cant I make it work?” She whispered.
Spike looked over at her confused. “Make what work?” He asked.
“How come no one wants to love me for me?” She asked, looking at him.
“It’s not you,” Spike said. “It’s them. They cant handle such a wonderful woman and they make it look like its you who’s screwing up. Any guy who leaves you has no idea what he came up.”
Buffy smiled. “Thank you,” she whispered.
“You’re welcome,” Spike whispered. “Why don’t you go in and get some sleep?”
Buffy got up and wiped her eyes. “Good night Spike,” she whispered.
“Good night Pet,” Spike said, with a soft smile.
Buffy smiled at him before going inside.
