Part One

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Buffy sat on her bed, thinkig of the last few days when Willow suddenly knocked on her bedroom door.

"Buffy?" She called.

"Come in, Will."

Willow slowly entered the room.

"Hey, what's up?" Buffy asked.

"Nothing much. I thought we could just...... talk, we haven't really done that in a while."

"Yeah. That's true. How's Oz?"

"He's doing okay. I mean, after that Xander thing.... is Angel doing okay?" She asked, changing the subject.

"Yeah, he's doing all right," Buffy said quietly.

"Are you two, uh, dating?"

"No......."

"Buffy, I know that there's a lot of bad things he's done but if you're not going to date anyone else then you might as well start dating him......... I mean, I have pretty much made the distinction between the demon and the soul but lately I just want to see you happy."

"I am happy."

"No, you're not. Maybe Giles and everyone else does but I notice how depressed you really are."

"Willow, Can we talk about something else?"

"No, because you need to and there's nobody else to talk about it to."

"Will....."

"I know that you don't date him because of us, like what we'll think of it when you go out with him......... that we'll hate you for it and we wouldn't want to have anything to do with you. You're also worried about the demon taking over his body. But if we're all happy in some of our relationships you should be to. Out of all of us you at least deserve it."

"Thanks, Willow," Buffy said quietly, "But I'm the one that helped release the demon. It's my fault and if that's what caused it then maybe we were never meant to be."

"That is totally untrue Buffy, don't say that. None of it is your fault and if I see anymore dark circles under your eyes next week....... I'm going to stake you myself."

"Willow......" Joyce called as she walked in, "Your mother called, she says that it's time to come home."

"All right." Willow got up off of the bed and before she exited out of the room she turned around to face Buffy. "Remember what I said."

And then she walked out.

Angel sat on the small bench of the mansion's garden, examining the amulet that was given to him only a day ago.

The amulet wasn't that small or large, in it was two small circles that were carved in next to one another. Around the two circles were symbols that were too small to read but the engravings were somewhat partly faded. This amulet was obviously older than himself.

"So, she gave that to you already, huh?"

Angel turned around to see whistler standing behind him.

"Yeah. It's been a while."

"What can I say kid? it's been kind of hectic around here. Nice to know that your out of hell."

"I didn't exactly spend the best years of my immortality there. So who's the girl?"

"My little sister Marissa."

"No wander she never gives me a straight answer and talks in riddles."

"That's my sis. where's Buffy?"

"Around."

"Geez, you two are becoming like normal couples. You guys just keep having that on and off sort of relationship problem as most couples do."

"I think your little sister knows that with me being a vampire is sort of putting a strain on my relationship with Buffy."

"She does."

"So what's this cure suppose to be?"

"I can help you but it's going to be a very painful way in order to turn you back into a human."

"I'll take that chance."

"Okay, kid, I just hope that you'll be able to survive it."

"Don't worry about me. I don't have anything to lose."

"Funny how you should say that....... because you do."

"What am I suppose to do?"

"After you drink this it's going to put you in a dream state, it's kind of like you being in a coma but worse. You'll be in another realm and in this realm you'll have to face yourself, your enemy, and your worst fear when you enter. If you are unable to overcome them then your body will die and your spirit is wither going to walk the Ghost Roads in limbo or earth itself."

"Like I said, I'll take my chances."

"OKay. Drink it up." Whister told him, handing him a goblet filled with a Red and thick crimson liquid.

"What is this."

"Unicorn blood."

"I thought they didn't exist."

"That's what everyone thinks. Call it a donation from a four-legged friend of mine, He wasn't too enthused about the needle either. No drink it, all of it."

Angel did as asked.

"In a few minutes your going to feel feverish so I suggest that you get inside and lie down."

"What about the Amulet?"

"You won't need it until later. Remember what I've told you. In order to begin a new life, you need to face your old one."

With that, Whistler got up and disappeared out of the mansion.

Angel headed out of the garden and went to the main bedrrom. But he wasn't in thime, that pain overtook him as he fell to the floor and drifted into unconsciousness......

Buffy walked into the mansion, she hadn't seen him in the gardens and the only thing she found was an amulet which was now in her hands. She walked into his bedroom quietly, just in case if he was still sleeping but it was possible, even if it was after sun down.

her eyes scanned the room only to see nothing. Before she walked out of the doorway she heard someone whispering and then looked down to see Angel lying on the floor beside the doorway. Sweet beaded his forehead, his body would fade and then come back again, and his knuckles turned white as he balled his fists.k

"Oh my God......"

Buffy carefully walked up and kneeled beside him, putting her warm hands on his forehead. He was burning up.

*I have got to find Giles.*

Buffy picked up the phone and dialed the school library's number. Right when the phone rang the first time someone picked up the phone and a familiar voice spoke.

"Hello?"

"Giles, we have a problem."

"What sort of problem, Buffy?"

"It's Angel. He's well....... sick."

"Sick? Vampires can't get sick..... unless if you were like Drusilla sick but....."

"Not that kind of sick, Giles. He's burning up, his body is like fading every once in a while like Casper and he's going kind of crazy."

"What's he doing now?"

"Struggling wildly one the bed. I didn't want him to hurt himself so I strapped him down. Look, Giles, I don't know what is going on or if you even know but we need to help him."

"I'll, uh, do what I can but I am not certain what his case may be. I had never heard of this happening before to vampires. I'll get Willow to help, there may be a chance that some sort of magic is involved with this. Is there any Item that he may have?"

"Yeah, uh, it's an amulet that he left in the garden."

"Alright, I'll get Willow and then we'll drive down there to see him. Bye Buffy."

"Bye."

Buffy hung up the phone and went back into the bedroom, pulling up a chair nect to the bed as she watched Angel sleep fitfully in it.

* * *
He didn't know where he was. It looked like he was in a room surrounded by total whiteness. This is the twisted kingdom that everyone talks about?

A black figure made it's way near him, a black robe framed it's features.

"Is this some kind of a joke?" Angel asked quietly, looking at what looked just like him.

"Gee, and I thought you'd be more happy to see you roomate," he said. Then again, Angel looked into his twin's eyes to see coldness, not an ounce of humanity in him and Angel knew exactly who he was talking to.

"Angelus."

"Nice to see that you've recognized me, soul boy."

"What are you here for?"

"What do you think? It's my job to make your pathetic soul suffer. I didn't really mind having the oportunity to torment the one thing that stands in my way of freeing myself. You know, when you fail Buffy is going to heartbroken. It's a pity though. I mean, I knew I couldn't turn her into something like Dru because she was strong, emotionally not to mention physically. I couldn't hurt her that much....... not like someone else. Think about it Angel, it's one of your worst fears....."

"She wouldn't."

"She would."

"She's too smart to do that."

"Really? I don't think your so sure of that, judging by the look on your face. She didn't kill me before because she thought that there was a chance of bringing you back to her. You weren't entirely dead..... your body was alive..... and there was a chance of getting rid of me. Do you think she'll kill herself if there was a chance for you? the answer of course as we know it is no.

"Your soulmates. Now let's think about that for a minute....... twin souls...... if you're dead and your soul leaves into the Ghost Rhoads didn't you ever think that her soul will follow yours into an eternity of walking a rhoad that leads into nothingness, the rhoad that can sometimes lead into eternal suffering? You never knew did you?" Angelus asked coldly, finally chuckling a bit at the expression on his soul's face.

"I didn't think so. That's the weird thing about Whistler sometimes, he doesn't know the whole situation. So what I'm predicting is is that you fail and your spirit walks. With your body dead, your lover is going to take her own life. Depression can be such a wonderful thing sometimes...... and she will follow your fate. You'll at least be together..... true. But left in utter torment.

"To tell you the truth, I like that ending."

"You bastard."

"Gosh, I'm hurt. The funny thing is is that I'll actually get to watch the whole thing. You see, I'll be able to take control of you body after your gone and I get to play dead for a while. My fun is really going to start then...... I just can't wait."

Angel's furry over took him as he swung his fist at his twin's head, it went right through it.

"Now, now Angel. You probably didn't know that you can't harm me in anyway. I can harm you though. I'm your enemy after all."

"I won't die and she isn't going to kill herself, I won't let her. As for our eternal fate that you have just informed me of, it will never come to pass you son of a bitch."

Angelus looked into his soul's eyes and smiled. "Congradulations, you passed your first test. Let's just see if you can pass the others."

" You already told me of my worst fear."

"No, I didn't. it's one of your greatest, but you also have another that is greater than the one I have just told you."

"And what would that be?"

"You'll find out soon enough......" The clone of himself faded away in the air.

* * *
"Angel stop it!" He was struggling wildly, he nearly tipped the bed over with him.

"You bastard!" He screamed.

"Angel....."

"Buffy, what's going on?" Giles asked from the doorway.

When she turned around he could see tears running down her cheeks and her eyes were red and puffy.

"He's just having another one of his strange nightmares again. Here's the amulet."

"Thanks, I'll see if I can find anything about it and Angel's condition. And Buffy?"

"Hmmm?"

"I know that it's hard seeing him like this but will you at least try to get some rest?"

"Okay."

"I'll call if I find anything and Willow is unavailable at the moment, it has to do with her father. He's in the hospital."

"Oh."

"Goodnight Buffy."

"Goodnight."

Giles walked out of the room with the amulet in his hand.

* * *
He wandered through the white landscape, for what had seemed to him to be hours.

Angel tried walking through the whiteness but ended up crashing against something. A wall. He began to feel his way around and then finally pushed against it and a piece of it fell. He slowly walked in it, only to find familiar faces. Faces that he had never forgotten. The victims he had made.

"Hellow Angel," He turned to see his youngest sister approach.

"Ingrid."

"Of course. I'm here to help you."

"Help me? Why and out of what?"

"Your in a realm where spirits wait to know what there fate is and a place where some people go to face their inner demons. While we are still here we plan on helping you get out of here brother."

"Are you one of my worst fears?"

"No. Your here to face yourself, face what the demon has done. You won't pass this until you learn to forgive yourself for crimes that you had never commited," Jenny told him.

"Jenny?"

"None of us blame you for what your demon has done. As long as your soul is in place, our killer is punished but also even more if you become a human. He will be trapped in the light," Anyos said with a smile, it was Jenny's uncle.

"How do I get out?"

"The amulet is the key. It was only made for the twin pair that who's love will be forbidden by the nature of their being," the young girl that had been the clans favorite daughter, the one he had killed long ago.

"I don't have it."

"Don't worry she'll bring it," Maeve said.

"Who?"

"Who do you think, brother? the only one that can help you out of this spirit world. After it is done then you'll become human."

"I thought that it was if I overcome it all then I get out."

"No, If you pass all three tests then your body will become human, it doesn't mean that your soul will be released, only with the help of your half will your soul be free to enter it's body."

"Buffy."

"We'll help guide her."

With that, the spirits of each of the people he had killed disappeared. And for once after the crimes of his past, the burden of the deaths he had cause was released.
