Willow Green lay in her bed, reading a book and listening to the radio. The rain pounded on the roof outside. Oz was gone on a tour, and Willow was feeling rather lonely. He had been gone for three months, and phone calls weren't cutting it anymore.
They had been married for over a year. Oz had proposed the day that she graduated from college, and Willow had been so happy she burst into tears. She smiled at the memory of their wedding. Buffy had been her maid of honor. Cordelia (Willow was still surprised at how well she had turned out) and Amy the witch (she and Willow had become firm friends after Amy discovered Willow's interest in the estoric) had been her brides maids. Oz had had Xander be his best man, with Angel and Devon as ushers. Oz's cousin Jordie had been the ring-bearer.
But now Oz was far away. Every cell in Willow's body yearned for him. Just to see him, to ruffle his "cool hair." To tell him that she loved him... Nights like these made her want to curl up in his embrace and never leave it.
Willow needed to talk to someone, just to vent. She began to reach for the phone to call Buffy, but suddenly the DJ's voice on the radio caught her attention. "And now I have a very special, top priority dedication. To Mrs. Willow Green, I love you. Love, your husband. PS Go outside and kiss the rain."
* Hello, Can you hear me?
Am I getting through to you? *
As Willow listened to the music, and let the word sink in, she began to cry. < I miss him so much... > she thought unhappily.
* Hello, is it late there?
Is there laughter on the line?
I assure you they're alone,
Because I'm trying to explain
Something's wrong,
You just don't sound the same. *
As Willow lay down, she remembered what the DJ had said: Go outside and kiss the rain. She sat bolt upright, and then sprang into action.
* Why don't you,
Why don't you,
Go outside,
Go outside,
Kiss the rain
Whenever you need me
Kiss the rain
Whenever I'm gone to long
If your lips feel lonely and thirsty
Kiss the rain
And wait for the dawn. *
Tears still running down her face, Willow pulled a bathrobe on over her nightgown. She didn't even bother to put on a pair of slippers as she pushed the bedroom door open and ran down the hall to the stairs.
* Keep in mind
We're under the same sky
And the nights are as empty for me as for you.
If you feel you can't wait till morning,
Kiss the rain,
Kiss the rain,
Kiss the Rain. *
Her bare feet pounded down the stairs, and her heart felt as if it would burst out of her chest. Her body was going seeming of its own volition while her mind protested Her feet kept moving.
* Hello. Do you miss me?
I hear you say you do,
But not the way I'm missing you.
What's new? How's the weather?
Is it stormy where you are?
You sound so close but it feels like you're so far. *
She burst through the front door, blindly fumbling with locks and nearly tripping as she finally got it open. She stumbled out onto the front porch, her eyes straining to see throught the downpour.
* Oh would it mean anything,
If you knew what I'm left imagining,
In my mind,
In my mind,
Would you go,
Would you go,
Kiss the rain *
Rain was pouring down in sheets. But Willow didn't care. Standing in the grass with open, soaking wet, arms, was Oz. As she ran across the lawn, she didn't even notice freezing cold water soaking her or her bare feet wading through mini-puddles in the grass.
* As you fall over me,
Think of me, think of me, think of me, only me.
Kiss the rain
Whenever you need me
Kiss the rain
Whenever I'm gone to long
If your lips feel lonely and thirsty
Kiss the rain
And wait for the dawn. *
She threw herself at him, and felt him embrace her as she hugged him and cried into his neck. "Oh, Oz, oh, I don't believe this, oh, Oz..." she sobbed. "I've missed you so much."
* Keep in mind
We're under the same sky
And the nights are as empty for me as for you.
If you feel you can't wait till morning,
Kiss the rain,
Kiss the rain,
Kiss the Rain. *
Oz lifted his wife into his arms and carried her inside. He set her down on the couch and flopped down next to her. "So, how've you been? Miss me?" he asked with his trademark grin. Willow just reached over and kissed him.
"I love you," she whispered a moment later.
Hello, can you hear me?
Can you hear me?
Can your hear me?
