Spike walked in the front door. “Dawn! Buffy!” He called.
“Spike?” Buffy whimpered from upstairs.
Spike ran upstairs. “Buffy?”
“In here,” she called, weakly from the bathroom.
Spike opened the door. “Buffy?” He asked, crouching beside her bloody and bruised body. “What happened?”
Buffy flinched and whimpered. “Riley…” She choked curling up into a ball.
Spike’s eyes fill with tears and angel as he shrugged off his duster. He gently tucked it around her and scooped her up. “I’m taking you to the hospital,” he said, going to the door.
Buffy began trembling. “No, Spike. Please,” she whispered.
Spike looked down at her. “Buffy, I know you hate hospitals but you have to go,” he said, taking her to the SUV.
He gently put her in the passenger seat and climbed behind the wheel. He started it and sped toward the hospital. He came to a screeching halt in front of the hospital and carefully lifted her out of the car.
“We need some help!” He yelled, as he came through the front doors.
A nurse came forward. “What happened?”
Buffy looked at the nurse with pain in her eyes. “What does it look like?” She whispered.
Another nurse came out with a stretcher. Spike carefully laid Buffy on it and they began to wheel her away.
“I’m sorry, but you cant go any further,” the nurse said to Spike.
“Spike!” Buffy screamed.
“You have to let me go with her,” Spike said.
Buffy punched the doctor in the nose and tried to get to Spike. “Spike” she whimpered.
Spike pushed the nurse out of his way and went to her side. He gently coaxed her back down and stroked her forehead.
The nurse came over to them. “You have to let us take care of her,” she said.
“He will. I just need him with me,” Buffy said, tears running down her face. “Please?”
The nurse looked back and forth between them. “Fine.”
Spike held Buffy’s hand as they wheeled her into the emergency room. He stayed near her head to keep her calm. “You’re gunna be fine, Pet,” he said.
“It hurts,” she whispered.
Spike kissed her forehead tenderly. “I know but you’ll be okay,” he said.
Buffy kept her eyes on his face and let the doctors work on cleaning her up.
“Do you know who did this?” the doctor asked.
“Riley Finn. I don’t know where he is now,” she said, squeezing her hand.
“We’ll get him and you’re going to be okay,” the doctor said.
A few hours later, Buffy was sound asleep finally and Spike called the others. Dawn ran into the waiting room and into his arms. “What happened? Is she okay? Where is she?” She asked.
Spike hugged her tightly. “Shhh. She’s fine. I don’t think you should go in there though. She looks bad,” he said, kissing her hair.
Dawn pulled away a little and swallowed her tears. “Just for a minute, I promise,” she said.
Spike sighed and led her to Buffy’s room.
Buffy was awake when Dawn came in. “Dawnie,” she said, giving her a small smile.
Dawn went over to her sister, but was careful not to touch her. “Spike said I can only stay for a minute. I just wanted to make sure you were okay. What happened?” She asked.
Spike looked at Buffy. “I’ll tell you later. I need to get some sleep first,” she said, looking back at Dawn.
Dawn smiled and kissed her sister’s forehead. “I just wanted to see how you were. Tara brought me here so she can take me home,” she said.
“Okay,” Buffy said, and Dawn left.
Spike watched as Dawn left with Tara and made his way to Buffy’s side. “How are you feeling?” He asked.
“Violated,” Buffy said, meeting his eyes.
Spike reached out to touch her but pulled back when she flinched. “Buffy, I’m not gunna hurt you,” he said.
Tears welled in Buffy’s eyes. “I’m sorry. I just…”
Spike covered her with his duster. “I know. He’s not gunna hurt you ever again,” he said, laying next to her.
Buffy nodded and relaxed when he pulled her into his arms. “I’m so tired,” she whispered.
“Probably the pain killers. Get some
sleep. I’ll still be here,” he said, pressing a kiss to her forehead.
Buffy snuggled deeper into him and her eyes fell shut as she drifted to sleep. Spike didn’t sleep though not wanting to risk anything happening to her.
