Buffy looked at the hole that was once Sunnydale. Somewhere in the hole, were the ashes of the man she loved. She thought of their last moments together, their last night together before crumbling to the ground.
Dawn and Willow came down next to her. “Buffy, are you okay?” Willow asked.
Buffy shook her head. “I miss him,” she whimpered. “How am I gunna go on without him?”
“Spike? Buffy what are you saying?” Dawn asked.
Willow gave her a look since everyone know Buffy was attached to him. Then just didn’t know how much. Xander carried Buffy to the bus and Faith called Angel. “Hello?” Angel answered.
“Angel, its Faith,” she said.
“Is everyone okay?” Angel asked.
“Not everyone. We’re headed your way so you’ll get the details in a couple of hours,” she said.
“I’ll be here,” Angel said, and the connection broke.
Xander told Buffy about going to L.A. and Buffy didn’t say anything as she nodded in agreement. Giles took Robin’s place at the wheel and everyone tried to relax on the bus.
By the time they reached L.A. it was dusk. Angel was waiting for them at the hotel and he gently lifted Buffy from Xander’s arms. He took her upstairs to one of the bedrooms where she could sleep. He kissed her forehead gently before going downstairs.
When he got downstairs, he gave Faith a hug and Xander told him everything that happened. “We closed the hell mouth. Well Spike closed it, and he died in the process,” he said.
Faith stepped in. “Angel she was with him until the very last minute. She almost didn’t make it. She’s lost almost everything. She loved him and now he’s gone. It’s not like you. You can come to her if she needs you. Spike’s never coming back.”
“We’ll help her deal. Gunn will come down to show you guys your rooms,” he said, going upstairs.
“There is plenty of space for everyone,”
Gunn said, showing everyone upstairs.
As Willow passed Buffy’s room, she created a picture of Buffy and Spike together so the Buffy would have something to hold on to.
Angel stayed by Buffy’s side afraid to leave her in her current state of grief. 2 weeks went by and Buffy was getting worse. Dawn was sitting with her when Willow ran in. “Dawn there’s someone downstairs for you,” she said, smiling.
Dawn headed out and Willow sat next to Buffy.
At the top of the stairs, Dawn could see Faith talking to someone with platinum blonde hair and leather jacket. It didn’t take her a second to realize who it was and she flew down the stairs. She jumped into his arms, surprising him greatly.
In Buffy’s room, Buffy was sobbing in Willow’s arms. “Willow, I can’t anymore. He’s the only one who gave me the strength to go on. I love him so much and I don’t know how to live without him. What am I gunna do?”
“I don’t know,” Willow said. “But there is someone downstairs that could help you.”
Willow gently got a weak Buffy out of bed and led her out of her room.
Dawn and Spike were still in each other’s arms when Buffy saw them. She gasped softly as more tears came to her eyes. She slowly descended the stairs aware of everyone looking at her but she didn’t care.
Everyone made way fro Buffy to get to Spike and Dawn pulled away when she felt Spike change a little. She saw Buffy with tears in her eyes but she was smiling and she walked into Spike’s arms and kissed her.
Their tongues danced lovingly and tenderly. Her arms snaked around his neck and his came around her waist. When she needed air they parted but with millimeters between them. She rested her forehead against his not caring about anything in the world.
Buffy finally came back to reality and looked at her friends. She smiled at them which made everyone relax.
“How?” Buffy asked.
“Not important. Right now, you and Spike
should go upstairs and get everything sorted out. Go. Now,” Dawn said, pointing up the stairs.
Buffy took Spike’s hand and took him upstairs. She was back in his arms, kissing him as soon as the door was shut and locked. He scooped her up in his arms and carried her to the bed. He covered her body with his own and they showed each other just how in love they were.
He tore his lips away from hers so she could breathe.
“I missed you so much,” Buffy whispered.
“I missed you too, Pet,” he said. “I love you.”
She opened her eyes. “I love you too.”
Spike smiled and kissed her again.
Buffy pulled away, wanting answers. “Spike, why didn’t you believe me before?”
“I wanted to but if you really meant it, it wouldn’t have been so easy for you to kiss Angel,” Spike said, honestly.
Buffy looked away guiltily. “Spike, Angel is the past. I didn’t know how to explain it to Riley and I lost him. Right now, it’s you. It’s me and it’s you. I’m always gunna love Angel. No one can replace him. I know somewhere in you, you still love Drusilla I cant replace her. But there’s room for me in your heart just like there’s room for you in mine.”
Spike seemed to accept that and kissed her softly.
“Please never leave me again,” she whispered. “I was devastated.”
“Never leave again. Promise,” he said, pulling her into his arms so they could fall asleep.
In the morning Buffy woke to Spike’s blue eyes.
“Morning, Luv,” he said.
“Morning,” she said, giving him a kiss and snuggling into him.
She finally let him up so she could get dressed and start being herself again.
Downstairs Spike was greeted by Dawn and they shared another hug.
“Is there room for me?” Buffy asked, when she came down.
“Of course.” Dawn gave Spike another hug and Buffy a smiled before leaving them alone.
“What did you guys talk about?” Buffy asked, approaching him.
“Nothing,” Spike said, kissing her so lovingly her knees went weak.
If his strong arms were around her, she would have collapsed. Spike felt Angel’s presence and broke away.
Buffy saw Angel and went over to him. “We are gunna talk about some stuff later,” she said, giving him a hug.
“So are Spike and I,” Angel said.
Spike understood and Angel left the alone only to be greeted by Giles.
“Angel, I know you care about Buffy but she doesn’t belong with Spike,” he said.
“Giles, we cant control who she loves,” Angel said.
“She deserves better. Spike doesn’t deserver her. After everything he did to her, I’m surprised she hasn’t killed him,” Giles said, clearly angry.
“Giles, she loves him. He’s different. I left Buffy to give her a life which she has chosen with Spike. When I just saw her there was a spark in her eyes that I haven’t seen in a very long time. Just let it be,” he said, walking toward the door.
“I will kill him before I let him and Buffy start this degrading scene of a relationship again,” he growled.
Angel stalked over to him, too close for comfort. “You kill him and I’ll kill you. If Buffy doesn’t do it first,” he said, leaving before Giles could respond.
“Giles, why cant you be happy for me?” Buffy asked.
“You deserve better. What about everything that’s happened in the past?” Giles asked.
“What about it?” Buffy asked. “We’ve forgiven each other. I hurt him way more then he hurt me so it doesn’t matter now.”
“Buffy, I cant let you do this,” Giles said.
“It’s not your choice. I love him. I don’t want to lose him again and if you have a problem with that then you’re not the same man I knew,” she said, taking Spike upstairs.
“Now what?” Spike asked.
“You, me and Dawn are going to get our own place and start our lives together,” Buffy said.
“I have to show you something,” Spike said, as Dawn came in.
“Can I see?” She asked.
“Yeah, this concerns you,” Spike said, going toward the balcony although it was daylight.
“Spike!” Dawn said, concerned as she rushed out with Buffy.
Buffy waited for something to happen and nothing did. She looked up at him before laying her hand on his chest. “You’re alive,” she whispered.
Spike nodded. “Yes I am,” he said.
Dawn smiled and snuggled up against him. “This is how it should be,” she whispered, as Buffy joined the hug.
