“If anything happened to Dawn, it’d destroy her. I couldn’t live with her being in that much pain. I rather Glory kill me first,” he coughed. “Nearly bloody did.”
Buffy leaned closer to him. “Spike,” she
whispered.
Spike looked in her eyes and knew it was the real thing. “Buffy?”
“It’s really me. Don’t worry about the robot. I’m grateful that you didn’t tell Glory about Dawn. I’ll never forget it,” she whispered. “When it gets dark, I’m coming back to help you to my house. You’re not staying here.” She pulled away from him and smiled. “Get some rest.” And she left.
Spike a bit dazed and confused did as he was told.
At Buffy’s house, she went upstairs to changed out of her clothes. “He didn’t give us up,” she said, to Dawn.
“He didn’t?” Dawn asked.
“No. I’m going over later because he’s gunna stay here. He needs to be taken care of,” she said.
“I want him here,” Dawn said, softly. “Make me feel safer and kinda like having mom back.”
Buffy smiled and tried not to grieve for her mother. “Hw?”
“I’m going,” Dawn said.
When the sun set, Buffy arrived at Spike’s crypt. “Ready?” She asked, and noticed he changed his clothes. “How did you change your clothes?”
“Very difficult Pet,” Spike said, softly.
“Come on. The sooner I get you home, cleaned, and fed the better,” she said, supporting him as they left.
When the arrived, the only thing that prevent them from going in was the barrier that kept Spike out. Buffy invited him in and they started the long and painful journey up the stairs.
Once in Buffy’s room, she carefully laid him on her bed. “I’ll be right back,” she said. “Do you want food or medicine first?”
“It doesn’t matter,” Spike said, softly.
“K,” Buffy said.
2 hours later, Spike’s wounds were dressed and he was fed. It didn’t take long for him to fall asleep. Dawn was curled up next to him sound asleep and Buffy couldn’t help but smile. Quietly, Buffy went to his other side and climbed in next to him. “Thank you,” she whispered, before falling asleep.
