Buffy rushed to Spike’s side. “Spike?”
“Yeah?” Spike asked, softly.
Buffy pulled Spike’s hand away from his head. “You okay?”
Spike’s unnecessary breathing was coming in short breaths. “You need to get everyone upstairs,” he said, upstairs.
Buffy looked at Giles then back at Spike. “Spike?”
“Buffy,” Spike said, getting upset. “Now.”
“Giles, take everyone upstairs,” Buffy said.
“Buffy..” Giles said.
“Go,” Buffy said, firmly.
Everyone reluctantly went upstairs and Buffy crouched in front of Spike. Her fingers went under his chin and brought his eyes to hers.
Spike’s eyes were yellow and he was vamped out. “Buffy, you gotta get away from me,” he
said.
Buffy frowned. “No. You are stronger then this. You can fight it,” she said, her hand running over his face.
Spike jerked his head away from her. “Not this time I cant Buffy. Please, I don’t wanna hurt you,” Spike whispered.
“You wont,” Buffy said, her hands sliding to his. “You love me?”
“Yes. More then anything,” Spike said.
“Then fight it,” Buffy said, squeezing his hands. Her voice was gentle yet firm.
Buffy watched as he fought the demon but his eyes never left hers.
After a few minutes the thing came out of his eye. His face returned to normal but his breathing was erratic.
Buffy’s thumb moved back and forth across his hand. “Spike?”
Spike began trembling.
“Spike? Hey, it’s okay,” she said, prying her hand from his fingers.
She unlocked the shackles from his wrists and sat next to him. She rested her hand on his cheek. “Spike?” He didn’t seem to respond. “Please,
talk to me,” she whispered.
Spike trembling began to subside and his eyes met hers.
Buffy smiled slightly. “You okay?” She asked.
“I don’t know,” Spike said, softly and he leave against the wall.
“What happened?” Buffy asked.
Spike closed his eyes as he felt tears sting them.
Buffy frowned and moved closer to him. Her arm slid around his shoulders and she pulled him into her arms. “You’re okay,” she said, stroking his hair, softly.
Spike eagerly leaned into Buffy’s embrace. He began trembling again as tears slid down his face.
Buffy felt him start to sob and she was at a lost as to what to do.
She gently pushed him away and wiped his cheeks. “What happened?” She asked.
Spike’s eyes met hers. “You don’t wanna
know,” he said, softly.
Buffy frowned. “Spike, just tell me. Things have been really good between us. You can tell me,” she said, trying to soothe him.
“When I first turned and my mother was very sick. I didn’t want her to die so I turned her. I let lose a demon and I had to kill her. Been bothering me for quite some time,” he said.
There were tears in Buffy’s eyes but she laid her head on his shoulder. “Do you need anything?” She asked, softly.
“Not if you’re gunna stay,” he whispered.
Buffy snuggled deeper into him. “I’m pretty comfortable,” she said.
Spike wiped his eyes and sighed. “The trigger doesn’t go off when I’m with you. That’s why I sent everyone upstairs.”
“I just want you to be okay,” she said.
“I’m okay now,” he said.
“Good,” Buffy said.
When the sun set, Buffy and Giles went patrolling. “I wasn’t sure about leaving Spike with Robin,” Buffy said.
“He’ll be fine,” Giles said.
After about 15 minutes, Buffy was fighting a vampire and Giles told her not to stake him yet.
Something went through Buffy and she staked him anyway.
“Buffy?” Giles asked.
Buffy looked up at him. “I cant believe I let you do this to me,” she said running toward the gate.
Her feet and heart carried her to Wood’s place and she busted through the garage. “Spike!”
She looked over and saw Wood begin to bring the stake down towards Spike’s heart. “No!” She screamed, knocking him away from Spike.
Buffy crouched next to Spike. “You okay?” She asked, touching his face.
Spike’s head turned toward him. “How’d you know?”
“I felt it,” she said, standing and carefully helping Spike up incase he was hurt.
“Buffy what are you doing?” Robin asked.
“I’m taking Spike home,” Buffy said, looking at him. “I understand what you tried to do but she’s dead.”
“Because he killed her,” he rasped.
“I’m preparing to fight a war. You’re looking for revenge on a man who doesn’t exist anymore,” she said.
“Buffy don’t delude yourself. That man still exists,” Robin said.
“Spike is the strongest warrior I have and the best man I’ve ever known. We are not gunna come out of this alive without him,” she said, looking at Spike. “Lets go home.”
Spike followed Buffy home, their fingers still entwined.
They came through the front door and Buffy pulled Spike to the stairs.
“Buffy…” Giles said, from the dining room.
“Don’t,” Buffy growled, taking Spike upstairs.
No words were spoken between Buffy and Spike as they climbed into bed.
Spike spooned against Buffy’s back and kissed her hair.
Buffy smiled and soon both of them were sleeping.
