“I’ve got no where else to go.” Spike said.
Buffy knelt in front of him. “Spike, you cant stay here. When the sun goes down you’re going home with me,” she said.
“Buffy, I cant. I hurt you too much and shouldn’t be anywhere near you,” he whispered.
Buffy sat on the floor next to him. “Spike, you told me you have a soul. Prove it,” she said.
“How?” Spike asked, looking at her.
“Come home with me,” she said. “Show me that you’ve changed.”
“Buffy,” Spike said.
“I can help you get better,” Buffy said, softly. “You are coming home with me. No
arguments.”
Spike closed his eyes and swallowed his tears. Buffy smiled and kissed his forehead tenderly. “You’re going to be okay,” she whispered. “I promise.”
Spike shuddered and nodded.
Buffy stood up and reluctantly left.
That night, as soon as the sunset, Buffy came and got Spike. Buffy knelt in front of him. “Spike?”
Spike’s eyes fluttered open. “Buffy?”
She gave him a soft smile. “Come on. Dawn knows you’re coming and she wants to talk to you,” Buffy said.
Spike allowed Buffy to lead him out of the basement and to her house. Only on the front porch did he pause.
“Buffy I cant,” he said.
Buffy slid her hand into his. “I know you’re scared but it’ll be okay,” she said, opening the door.
Spike trembled as Buffy led him to the couch. “Just sit here,” she said, going upstairs.
She came back down with Dawn and he stood up. Dawn came over and wrapped her arms around his neck and tears slid out of her eyes.
Spike held his own tears and hugged her tightly. “I’m so sorry Dawn,” he said.
“I missed you so much,” she whispered.
Spike sat on the couch and cradled Dawn in his lap.
Buffy took a deep breath and let it out slowly. She went over and sat next to him. She snuggled into his side and inhaled his scent. “I missed you, too,” she whispered.
Spike looked at both of them. “Are you guys forgiving me?” He asked.
Dawn sniffled. “I am,” she whispered.
Buffy looked at her sister. “Dawnie, I need to talk to Spike. Can you go upstairs?” She asked, softly.
“Is he gunna be here in the morning?” Dawn asked.
“Maybe,” Buffy said.
Dawn picked her head up and wiped her eyes. She looked at Spike. “I love you,” she whispered.
Tears came to Spike’s eyes. “I love you too,” he said, softly.
Dawn climbed out of his lap and went upstairs.
Spike looked at Buffy. “Are you gunna yell at me?”
Buffy shook her head. “We haven’t had a talk since you’ve been back and I think it’s time that we did,” she said, wiping his tears. “I’m going to go first because I have a lot to say.”
She stood up and moved away from him. “That night, you really hurt me,” she said, softly. “But when you left, I sat down on the floor and cried. I drove you to do that and I realized I really hurt you. I didn’t mean to hurt you. I didn’t,” she said, tears in her eyes.
Spike stood up and went over to her. “Buffy, please don’t cry,” he said, softly.
Buffy wrapped her arms around herself. “Spike, I wanted to love you and I tried but it just wasn’t in me. I didn’t have the strength to give myself to you because I didn’t want you to leave me. And then you did and I thought one night you’d come back,” she whispered.
Spike reached up and wiped her cheeks. “I didn’t know you wanted me to,” he whispered.
Buffy sniffled and leaned up against him. “I did. I care about you so much Spike and I want you to be with me again. I cant live without you and I need you. I wanna give my heart but I wont if you’re going to leave again,” she whispered.
Spike wrapped his arms around her and hugged her tightly. “Buffy, I wont leave unless you give me a reason to,” he said.
Buffy raised her eyes up to meet his. She leaned in and kissed him softly. She snaked her arms around his neck and deepened their kiss.
Spike tightened his arms around her and kissed her back.
Buffy pulled away and sniffled. “You can stay with me tonight,” she said, softly.
“Are you sure, Buffy? Cuz I can go” Spike said, softly.
“No, I want you to stay and hold me tonight,” Buffy said. “Please?”
Spike sighed and nodded.
Buffy slid her hand into his and led him upstairs.
Spike stood looking at her, not sure what he should do.
Buffy read his mind and helped him out. She slid her hands up his arms and around his neck. “It’s okay,” she whispered.
“Just a little nervous,” he said, softly.
“it’s okay,” she whispered, again. “I’m going to change and you are gunna make yourself comfortable in my bed. Okay?” She kissed him softly before disappearing into the bathroom.
Spike shuddered and toed off his boots. He set them next to Buffy’s chair and climbed into her
bed.
A minute later, Buffy came out in pajamas. She climbed in next to Spike and snuggled up against him. “Just relax Spike. We’re gunna be okay,” she whispered.
Spike relaxed eventually and soon fell asleep beside her.
