Buffy was going hunting when she stumbled across a girl sleeping in the middle of a bush. She had a wolf laying its head on her chest, a rattlesnake winding around her leg, and a cat next to her head. When she tried to wake up the girl, the wolf raised its head and growled at her. She walked away and went to her school's librarian, Giles. His head was buried in a book. He looked at her, and looked extremely worried.
"Buffy, did you run into a sleeping girl who had wildlife around her?" he said as he lowered his head back into the book.
"Why? Am I going to wake her up?"
"She controls animals. Whoever wakes her up she uses her power to help them, but the only ones who can wake her up are the ones who are like animals anyway. That includes vampires, and she can have her animals come after you. That means any kind of vampires. The nature of their species rubs off on her."
"Even Angel can't wake her up?"
"Not really. But she can be a powerful weapon because she can also change into and creature she wants. She always turns into a wolf, so we call her a She-wolf."
"I better go wake her up." Buffy ran out of the library, and rushed to the bushes she found the She-wolf. Angel was bending over her when she got there. "Angel, don't touch her!"
Angel straightened up and she saw that she was already awake. "She was awake when I got here." The She-wolf sat up and the glitter in her eyes made Buffy wonder who got to her first. The snake on her legs slithered up to her arms. She held out her arm and the snake struck out at Buffy.
"Friend snake, why did you do that? She wouldnt hurt me," she said when she barely got out of the way. She brought her arm in and looked at the snake. She smiled at the snake and suddenly started to glow. The glow got brighter until it was blinding, and then suddenly it died away and a wolf was standing where she was sitting. It ran away and a vampire walked out of a bush. He smiled at Buffy and ran off in the direction the wolf went.
The She-wolf was sitting next to the person who had waken her up. She had changed back to human as soon as she had gotten to a sewer. "What is your name?" the vampire asked.
"Thea." Thea looked at him and her eyes hardened. "My snake said that the girl was a person who kills your kind. I am forever in your debt, so if you want me to kill her, just tell me."
The vampire thought about this, then told her to send a cat and wolf after her. Thea whispered to her cat and wolf and they rushed off to find Buffy. She looked at him and smiled warmly. It was dark, so when the vampire attacked her, she couldnt see him . He drained her just enough that she fainted from blood loss. Then he picked her up and carried her off to a part of the sewer that no one else could find her.
Buffy was walking home when a cat flew out of a bush and a wolf attacked her from behind. She dropped into a ball and rolled away from the animals. They attacked her from behind. She got a few scratches fighting off the wolf. Then she ran off to her house.
Thea woke up and saw that she was in a sewer. Her dark eyes glittered with joy as she heard the mind of one of her animals. Suddenly she heard that she had gotten away. She called her wolf back and told the cat to find a mouse or something. The wolf show ed up in about twenty minutes, and during that time Thea was twirling her dark red hair and chewing on her bottom lip. Her wolf showed up and told her what happened.
"So why didnt you just follow her scent?"
"She was moving fast and I was worried about you. The first time I called you, you didnt answer," the wolf said telepathically.
Thea remembered that she had waken up in the sewer. She looked around and saw no one in the area. Then she turned into a snake and slithered out with her wolf following. She turned back into human as soon as she was out of human line of sight. Then she t old her wolf to follow Buffy's scent and if she's inside, not to force its way inside, and to not hurt her. She wondered if the vampire had attacked her. Then she thought that another vampire must have attacked her. She twirled her hair and remembered her twin brother. She remembered when she had gone out to gather food, he was gone. Everyone thought he was dead. Then she came home, and there was blood all over the place. Her mother, father, and siblings were dead. Her eyes shadowed when she heard the mind of her cat.
Thea, he's dead. He's never coming back. You tried your best when you fought the sorceress that tried to kill you, thinking all the time that he was still out there, and trying to stay alive to see him again.
I know he's out there. I would have known if he died. We're twins. Thea shook her head and saw the vampire who had waken her up. She waved her hand to let him know where she was. He came next to her and she suddenly screamed. She didnt see him at all when she was in the sewer, so she didn't know he was a vampire. She tried to morph as quickly as possible, but he bit her before she could. She sent a message to her animals before she blacked out, Find the girl. The Slayer. Now.
Buffy was walking to the Bronze the next night when a wolf, cat, and snake came up to her. The wolf gently bit her hand and tried to lead her in a different direction. The cat nudged her leg in the direction the wolf was pulling her, and the snake, slith ered ahead, then waited for her to catch up. She got the idea and let the animals guide her. They guided her to a bush, then the wolf let go and nudged her other leg in the direction of the bush. Buffy peeked inside and saw Thea sleeping, but barely breat hing. The puncture marks on her neck confirmed that she was attacked by a vampire. She quickly checked for a pulse, and then she heard a groan. Thea opened her eyes and smiled faintly.
"So you're the Slayer. I didn't really get to introduce my self. I'm Thea. And you're Buffy. My cat told me." Thea grimaced and sat up. "I'm fine. Just give me some time to get centered, and I'll tell you about me."
Buffy waited for a few seconds, then Thea drew in a breath. "I control animals. I can speak to them mind to mind, just like I use to talk to my" she trailed off, thinking. "Oops,sorry. I can morph into any animal I want, but my preferred choice is a wolf. I don't know why, but I'm immortal. That vampire tried to kill me, but, of course, I'm immortal, thats why he didnt." She thought and added, " I had a twin brother. He supposedly died when I was young. One day about a year after he died, I came home to find that my family was dead. There was blood everywhere. I still have nightmares about it." Thea shuddered, remembering vividly what she did after she saw the mess.
"Wow. You'll be all right now, right?"
"Only if I can kill the vampire who tried to kill me."
"Killing vampires is what I do, Thea."
Thea suddenly screamed and Buffy turned around. There was the vampire, and he looked like he wanted to kill someone. Buffy drew a stake from her jacket, and tried to stake him, but he was very strong. They fought, but she found herself on the ground, wit h him bending down to her neck. A bit a fur ran by her line of sight, then the vampire turned around. The wolf and cat were attacking him. She saw Thea frowning in concentration, but the animal distraction was all she needed. She staked him from behind and turned back to her. Thea was smiling.
"Buffy, thank you for killing him. One thing though, when I was asleep, animals all over the world kept me informed about what's happening. The boy who was bending over me when I first met you looked like my brother. One of my animals said that someone wh o looked like my brother was here in Sunnydale, and his name is Angel. I was groggy, but maybe you know where he is. I'm giving you my cat. If you see him, tell my cat and she will tell me."
Thea handed her cat to Buffy and said, "Bye."
Then she morphed into a snake and slithered away.
