Buffy was at home, petting a cat that a girl had given to her. The girl's name was Thea, and it seemed that she was Angel's twin sister. Thea was a She-wolf, and she controlled animals, talked mind to mind with them, can morph into any animal she wants, but unfortunately is a bit naive. Is she Angels twin sister? No one knows. Maybe I should tell the cat. But what if she tells Thea? I don't want anyone to jump to any conclusions. I should talk to him first. Buffy was thinking, but she didnt want to talk to Angel about his past. It might be too painful for him to remember. She looked down at her cat and it seemed to be implying that she should talk to him.
"All right Leah! I'll go," she said. She had name her Leah, which sounds like Thea, and it seemed fitting. Leah was arrogant, smart, and also a bit naive. She set her down and went to the Bronze.
Angel wasn't at the Bronze when she got there, but Willow was. She asked her if Angel had showed up, but he hadnt. She waited for two minutes until he showed up. When he did, the first thing she did was ask him about his past.
"Angel, did you have a sister?"
Angel shifted and said, "Yes."
"Did you have a twin sister named Thea?"
"Yes."
"Did she have dark red hair, brown eyes, and a way with animals."
"Like that girl in the bush? Yes."
"This is painful for you." Angel's eyes were full of pain. Buffy was about to apologize when she felt a nudging at her leg. She looked down and saw Leah rubbing her leg.
She picked her up and said, "Leah, how did you get in? Im sorry. I better take her home."
Thea was scanning the room. Her cat had said Buffy and Angel were here, but where? She suddenly felt her brother's mind and turned her head so she got a full view of him. Angel?, her mind called out. Her jaw dropped as his head turned and stared at her. It was him! She let out an involuntary squeal when she heard his mind say her name. She pushed her way though the crowd and towards Angel. She hugged him and whispered, "Angel. Oh, Angel, its been so long." Telepathically she said, And I wasnt so sure I'd see you again. I thought you were dead. Thea smiled and choked back tears. She was so happy that she felt like crying.
"I thought you were dead too, Thea." He hugged her back. Buffy was standing a few inches away, still holding Leah. Her mouth opened and she heard her say something about being right but still surprised. Thea was happy, but something about Angels mind wasn't right. His memories were there, along with emotions, but something dark was there, something that wasnt there before. And he was worried about something. She didnt have time to worry because he was guiding her to the door. Outside, she turned to him.
"Angel, what's wrong?" she said. He said that he wanted to talk, so Thea found a place to sit. "So, what do you want?"
"Before I tell you, just remember I won't hurt you." Thea looked confused and agreed. She was still scared from the darkness in his mind. Angel took a deep breath and told her what happened when he disappeared. When he got to the part where he became a vampire, she was very surprised.
"I remember one day a week after you disappeared, I felt like a part of me had died. I never would have thought this had happened." Thea felt guilty. She knew he wasn't going to hurt her, but she was still scared.
Angel patted her back and comforted her mentally. Thea took a deep breath and gave a wobbly smile. He continued telling her about what happened. She felt better when he finished. Thea smiled more confidently and stood up. Angel grabbed her wrist. "And do you think you're going to get away without telling me what happened to you?" She sat back down and told him what happened to her up to the point where she fell asleep.
"And thats what happened to me." Struck with a thought, she said, "Do you remember when we were twelve and we were gathering plants and that water moccasin came out of nowhere and wrapped its self around your leg? Thats when I first found I could control animals. I always had a way with animals, but when I learned I could talk telepathically to animals, and that doesn't include you, my animal-like brother, I knew I had a special talent."
Angel remembered that it was about to bite him when Thea held out her hand and the snake turned around. Her face was twisted in concentration and suddenly the snake slithered up her arm, down her back, and far away from them. It still shook him at her display of power. Thea started to say something, but was interrupted by a yawn.
"Oops, I better get to a bed. I'm exhausted." He thought for a second and told her that she could stay in his room. She brightened and yawned hugely. She barely made it into his bed when she fell asleep. Her last thought was, Finally I've found my brother.
The next night, Thea and Angel were out walking. Thea remembered something about Slayers. "Angel, if Buffy is a Slayer, and she knows what you are, why hasn't she slayed you yet?"
"Lets just say"
"She likes you, doesn't she? Only if Father was here. Remember, he was the supernatural expert."
"Thea, I can still pound you into the ground, so don't you dare say another word about this."
Thea gave a rueful smile. "Who said I would?" she said innocently. Angel shook his head and looked back at her. Thea's head snapped around as a grunt sounded to her left. A loud scream sounded and it sounded like Buffy. She rushed over to where the scream came from and saw Buffy fighting a vampire. It looked like she was having trouble, so Thea ran into the vampire at top speed. Hands out, she shoved the vampire and ended up with her on the bottom, with the vampire bending towards her neck. She fought and was able to push its head up. She heard Angel shout and saw him rush at the vampire before its face covered her sight.
Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Willow run up before a stake rammed though the vampires heart and though her own heart. When it t urned to dust, the stake stayed where it was. Angel was bending over her and when he realized what happened, he raised his wrist to his mouth and was about to sever a vein, but he knew she might lose her powers, so he put his hand down. Thea's eyes frantically looked around and looked at Willow. Her cat had told her that she had Power, but didnt know how to use it. Thea hoped that she could save her.
"Could you try to save me?" she said as blood bubbled out of her mouth. She put her hand on the area next to her wound, but suddenly pulled it away.
"I'm sorry. It's ruptured the heart. I can't do anything."
Thea's eyes widened as she felt her heart skip a beat. She was dying and she couldnt do anything but say good-bye. She said good-bye to Angel just before she died with a tear slipping down her face.
Angel held her hand and said, "Good-bye Thea."
A week later Buffy was coming back to her grave and saw Angel there. They had dug a deep grave and every other day she would come and put some fresh flowers on her grave. Angel looked up and looked back down at Thea's grave.
"It hurts, doesnt it? Losing a twin sister," she said
Without looking up, he said, "I feel like I've died. I miss her."
Buffy walked up to him and started to comfort him. Buffy looked at her grave and felt like saying good-bye to Thea. She had saved her life twice and Buffy couldn't save her life. She bent down to her grave and said, "Good-bye Thea. And, I'm sorry."
