A girl with silver-gray hair smiled as she saw a boy. Her smile faded when she saw his face. She screamed and tried to run. But the boy, a vampire, caught her and bit her. Her nails cut into his neck as she fought, and a burst of blood squirted across her cheek. The boy finally completely drained her and walked off...
Luna DeValle woke up with a start. It was morning, but the dream stayed with her. Luna brushed her birthmark, and remembered thats exactly where his blood splattered. She shook her head and got dressed in a buttoned-up red shirt and blue jeans. She brushed her silver-gray hair and left in down.
"Luna, Ill have to drive you to school today. I couldnt find a bus stop near here."
"Fine, Mam�." Luna was just starting school in Sunnydale after the divorce. She moved from Mexico City.
"Why dont you put your hair up?"
"I like my hair down."
"Youll have to brush that mess."
"Mam�, I dont mind having my hair messy. Its fine."
Her mom rolled her eyes and eyed her waist-long hair. She finally gave up and told Luna to get in the car.
Her first day of school was a nightmare. First, a girl who is possibly the Most Popular Girl ( capital letters) looked at her and said something to one of her friends. And in her first class, everyone was talking about her. Mostly it was " See the new girl? She has silver hair!" Then when she went to the library to get some textbooks, the librarian looked oddly at her. Luna was completely humiliated. At her locker, she spotted a fine guy walking in her direction. Luna touched her birthmark and watched two girls walk up to him and start talking. Luna shook her head and turned back to her locker.
"Xander, what are you doing tomorrow?"
"Possibly go to the Bronze."
" Why dont I join you?"
"Buffy"
Luna was closing her locker, opening her purse, and keeping an eye on her shirt, because it had a tenacity to break open when she leaned over, when she stepped back and bumped into Xander. She dropped her books and everything in her purse when flying.
"Im so sorry! Oh, I cant believe I did that," Luna babbled as she picked up everything.
"Wow. Are you O.K.?"
"Fine, fine. Bye." Luna turned and started to walk off
"Hey, whats your name?"
"Luna," she said as she turned around
" Im Xander."
Luna gave a small smile. " Nice name."
" You have a nice name. And a accent."
" I just moved from Mexico City."
" Your name, its interesting. And nice hair."
" I had this had this color hair ever since I was a beb�. My mom named me Luna after the moon. Luna means moon in Spanish."
"Um, we really need to get to our next class," Buffy broke in.
Luna jumped a little and touched her birthmark. Then, with a smile, she asked if Xander was free tomorrow. With a look at her birthmark, he agreed and told her to meet him at the Bronze.
"Its on the bad side of town. Ill pick you up." Xander smiled at her and walked off. Luna felt like she was on air.
The rest of the day wasnt that bad. She didnt mind all the people talking about her. When the day was over, she saw her moms car and climbed in next to her mom.
" Well, how was your first day of school?"
" Fine, Mam�. I have a date for tomorrow!"
"So soon?"
"S, Mam�."
"With who?"
" Like Ill tell you! Sorry, its just I dont want you to do anything embarrassing," she added after she saw her moms look.
That night she had another dream about the boy. She was in Egypt and she was watching him come up to her. He told her that he saw another girl and felt they should be together. She tried to hold back tears and watched him walk off to a girl
Luna woke up. She had saw the girl. It looked like Buffy. She had dreams about him for the last week and they were so colorful, so real. It was 8:00 AM, so she time to shake off the effect of the dream. It was 6:00 PM when she heard a knock on the door. A look though the peephole confirmed her suspicions. It was Xander. She rushed up to her room, put on a blue dress on and a gold locket around her neck. A girl with a heart shaped face and silver hair looked at her. Luna put her hair in a ponytail and smiled at her reflection. Then she rushed downstairs and opened the door.
Xander looked at her dumbfounded. Luna smiled, walked out of her house, and closed the door. " Hi Xander."
"Hi Luna." He was looking at her birthmark. It was dark maroon, and for some reason everytime she touched it she felt better.
"Youre staring at me."
"Sorry. Its just... youre so beautiful"
"In Mexico everyone shunned me because of my hair. No one else had silver hair. And as a kid, my hair was bright silver."
"Its..."
"Weird?"
Xander shook his head and started to say something, but Luna told him they better get to the Bronze before her mom sees him. "Shell just ask embarrassing questions," Luna whispered. After a brief hesitation, he agreed.
At the Bronze, Xander asked if she wanted a drink. Luna said yes and off he went to get her something. When he was gone, she spotted Buffy. She was talking to a girl who had asked if Xander was doing anything. Luna walked over to them to say hi.
"Hi Luna. Im Buffy, and this is Willow."
"Hi. Um, my math class is having a test in a week and youre ahead of me. I really need a tutor," Luna said helplessly
"I could help you," Willow replied
"Thank you so very much! I really need help!"
"Whoa. Look whos coming." Buffy said in wonder. Luna turned and saw a boy coming to them. It was the exact boy in her dreams.
"No, no, no. Oh no, it cant be the guy from my dreams!" Luna was very scared. The boy walked near her and his eyes changed from duty to recognition. He recognized her. "Oh. My. God."
"Angel, hi. How are you?" Buffy said, completely unaware of her muttering.
"Whos that?"
"Her names Luna. She just moved here."
Luna rushed right past Xander and practically ran outside. The thing keeping her from running home was Xanders calls for her.
"Luna! Whoa, whats wrong?"
" I know him. I know what he is!"
" Calm down. What is he?" Xander said, trying to calm her down.
"Hes a..." Luna trailed off as Angel, Buffy, and Willow ran up to her.
Angel just looked at her with the same look. Luna brushed her birthmark, took a deep breath and whispered, "Hes a vampire."
Buffy and Willow exchanged looks and Buffy looked at Luna and said "You know..?"
"Yes! Its mostly a feeling, but I had a dream and.."
"And I killed you." Angel said when Lunas voice trailed off. " I remember when I killed a girl who looked like you. The dark spot is in the exact place as last time." He tried to touch her birthmark but she batted his arm away and said,
"Stay away from me." Luna shrugged Xander off and looked at Angel, eye to eye. "I mean it. Stay away from me. I remember what happened." With that Luna sprinted off.
Angel looked at Buffy and said, "I met a girl who looked like her when I was mortal. She was so beautiful and I liked her from the first moment I saw her. When I became a vampire, well... she was in the way and I was hungry."
Luna was running up to her house when she noticed her mom coming in the side door. It was strange because her mom hated to be outside after dark. She let it slide and rushed inside. Luna dashed to her room and shut the door. There she leaned against the door and allowed herself to calm down. No one was very surprised to hear that Angel was a vampire, so she knew that he already told them. She slide out of her dress and got out her nightgown. Then she laid down to sleep.
She had no dreams that night. When she woke up, she remembered what happened last night. Luna got dressed in a white shirt and black shorts. It was 9:00 in the morning and she had never slept that late before. She heard a knock at the door.
"Hello. Is Mrs. DeValle here?" a man asked smoothly.
"Ill see." Luna shut the door and trudged to her mothers room to see that she was gone. Walking back to the door she said, "Im sorry, shes still sleeping. May I ask who you are?"
"When Mrs. DeValle wakes up, call me at this number." The man handed her a slip of paper with some writing on it. "And thank you for your time." He walked off and Luna wondered what her mom was going to do.
She had closed the door and was ready to go back to her room when another knock came.
"Hi Luna!"
"Oh, hi." It was Buffy. "Come in."
"Wow," Buffy said as she saw her moms portrait of her father.
"Thats my dad. Hes still in Mexico. I dont know why mi madre divorced him. Sorry. Old habits die hard," She added when she saw Buffys confused expression.
" I want to talk to you."
" Buffy, Im not really in the mood to talk."
"Angel isnt who you remember. Hes changed."
"Look, I hate him. I always will."
"Luna"
"Did he tell you what he is before I came? Is that why you werent so surprised?"
"Luna, Im a Slayer. Im suppose to slay vampires. But Angels a different kind of vampire. He knows what I am and respects me. Please listen to me"
"He probably set you up to this. Get out!"
"Fine, fine. I just thought you would like to have that info," Buffy said and she walked out the door. Luna heard the side door opening and closing. She looked and saw her mom come in. Luna remembered what the man said and called the number. She said that her mom had awakened.
That evening she took a walk. She was worried about her mother. She was walking back to her house when a voice sounded behind her.
"Luna"
Luna turned and saw Angel. She narrowed her eyes at him and said "What are you doing?"
"Luna, Im not who you think I am. I"
"Stay away from me," Luna growled at him. He looked pained then walked to her.
"Luna, Im sorry for what happened. I was out of control. Im older and more in control now."
"Then why do your eyes have a hungry look?" Luna backed up and suddenly said, "Stay away from me."
"Luna, please."
Luna was at the end of her rope as Angel reached for her. She grabbed his arm and shoved it back in his face. Then she kicked him and they had a small fight. It wasnt long when Angel had Luna backed up against a tree and was holding one arm.
"Look, lets just have a truce, O.K.?"
"Fine. Youll stay away from me and Ill never come after you with a stake."
"Fine." Angel let her go and Luna ran back to her house. At her house, she checked on her mom. She wasnt there. Then a knock came at the door.

The next day after school, Buffy, Xander, and Willow went over to Lunas house. They saw a moving truck and it was loaded with stuff.
"Hi guys."
"Luna, where are you moving to? You just got here." Xander said
"I have a secret to tell you, but you cant tell anyone."
"Sure. What is it?"
With a furtive glance around, and seeing that no one else was listening, she started. "Well, my mom turned out to be a drug dealer. Thats why my dad divorced her. She was taken away and my dads coming to pick me up." A car drove up and stopped in front of Luna. She waved good-bye and climbed into the car. It drove off and they never saw Luna again
