Good Morning Sunshine
It was a bright sunny day, in the town of Sunnydale. Everything seemed like it was A-okay, and then it happened...Buffy awoke to find her sister standing at the foot of her bed.
"What?" Dawn stood there, watching her sister. “Why are you staring at me like that, it's creepy." Buffy sat up and pulled the covers off of herself. Dawn still stood there, emotionless. "Okay, Dawn now you are really being extra creepy." And then she noticed that Dawn's eyes were red and her face was tear streaked. "What's wrong?, where's mom?" Buffy got out of bed and walked down the hall to their mother's room. She wasn't in there. Buffy turned and made her way downstairs. Everything seemed fine, but no sign of their mother..
Buffy turned around, looking into the living room, nothing. It didn't take her long to make her way into the kitchen. There she was, on the phone, with her back turned to Buffy. Joyce Summers turned around and smiled at her oldest and held up a finger, indicating that she would be a minute. Buffy smiled back. She leaned against the counter and waited for her mother to get off the phone.
"Good morning, Buffy. You slept in late," said Joyce as she continued doing her morning business.
"Do you know why Dawn is upset?" Buffy asked...Joyce looked at here daughter and smiled once again then spoke.
“That’s simple, sweety. I told her she wasn’t real. That she was just a ball of energy.”
Buffy looked at her mother, confused.
“What?”
Buffy woke up. She looked around. She was in her bed and it was still dark out. She looked at her alarm clock, it was only 5:40 in the morning. Buffy wiped her brow. It was sweating as was her body. The whole thing had been a dream. She didn’t have a sister.
The bell above the door to the Magic Box chimed. Giles looked up from the book he was fusing over, as did Anya. Seeing who it was, she went back to counting the drawer for the tenth time. Buffy walked over to where Giles was and sat down.
“I had a weird dream last night,” she told him. He continued reading his book, but spoke to her without looking up.
“Yes, what was it about?” Buffy sat down and folded her legs underneath her.
“That’s the thing, I’m not sure. I had a sister in it. Her name was Dawn. Mom said something about her not being real, something about a ball of energy.” She looked at Giles waiting for him to look up. “Giles.”
“Yes?”
“Didn’t you hear a word I just said?” He looked up.
“Yes, yes, ball of energy, sister named Dawn.”
“What do you think it means?” Giles put down the book.
“Well it could mean a number of things, really. It could be one of your prophetic dreams, or just that you ate some rather bad Chinese food.” Anya had stopped counting the money and was butting into the conversation.
“I think it was one of her dreams. Slayers have those a lot. There was this one Slayer who dreamt about killing the Master. Come to think of it, I don’t think she did, I think she died. Oh well, not Buffy, she’s Super Slayer.” Both Buffy and Giles looked at her. “I’ll go count the money again.”
“So aside from the Chinese food, I think it was one of my dreams, but a sister, Giles, how is that possible?”
“I don’t know. Maybe your father had a child after your parents divorced? We should look into this ball of energy thing, though.”
As the night came upon Sunnydale, the Magic Box closed and inside, Buffy, Willow, Tara, Xander, Anya and Giles poured over the books. Another typical night for the Scoobies.
“Mmah,” sighed, Buffy, throwing a book down on the table. “My brain hurts. Is it possible to research too much?” she asked no one in particular.
“No. I like to make a game out of it,” Willow announced, looking up from her book. “I like to see how many demons I can find that have horns, or how many mystical entities there are on one page.” She was suddenly aware that everyone was looking at her. She scowled, and put her nose back in her book.
“Hey Here’s something,” Xander proclaimed, a little too excited. “No, wait, nevermind.” Giles stood up and took off his glasses to clean them on his coat sleeve.
“I think perhaps we are looking for the wrong thing. Good lord, is that the time?” he asked, looking at the clock on the wall. It was two in the morning. “I think it’s time we all went home. We can do more in the morning when we’ve all had time to rest.
“Xander and I will go home and have sex, then we will rest. We like to do it every night before actually going to bed, it’s become a little a ritual of ours, more habit now than anything, really.” Xander’s face had gone completely blank, as did the rest of the groups.
“Well then, I can say that I won’t be sleeping tonight, as to keep that image out of my head,” said Giles.
Buffy walked with Willow and Tara to their room.. She didn’t feel like going home right away. Her dream was still bothering her. They walked in silence back to the campus. Willow and Tara weren’t sure if they should say anything. Then Tara did.
“Mah, maybe we could do a spell, you know, see if we can find out what this dream means?” Buffy looked at her and smiled.
“Thanks, Tara, but I don’t think it means anything really...maybe Giles was right, maybe it was just some bad Chinese. But I didn’t eat Chinese that night. Anyway, I’m going to walk home now.”
“But we just got here,”Willow protested. “I was going to make floating popcorn balls.”
“I’m sorry, Will, I think I should head home...check on mom..she hasn’t been feeling too well.” Buffy hugged her friends and walked home.
When she got there she found her mother in the kitchen. “Hey mom.” Her mother turned around.
“Oh, Buffy, I didn’t hear you come in.” Joyce looked at the clock on the microwave. “It’s three thirty in the morning, are you just getting in?”
“Yeah, sorry we were doing the research thing.” Buffy got herself a Sunny D from the fridge.
“Well I’m surprised I’m even still up to tell you the truth. I’ve been reading about this new exhibit that’s coming to the gallery. I suppose it’s time I went to bed.” She kissed her daughter goodnight and left the kitchen. Buffy looked at the spot where her mother had been standing. It was the exact same spot she had been in the dream. Buffy drank her Sunny D and headed up to her room.
She tried to sleep but she was very restless. Buffy got up. It was still dark out. Good, she thought, still some vamps out. As she walked through the cemetery, her mind was on one thing, and it wasn’t vampires. It was because of this that Buffy didn’t sense the one that was about to attack her. He threw his arms around her, catching her off guard. Buffy snapped back into Slayer mode. Buffy countered his grasp by flipping him over her shoulders and throwing him on to the ground, with a thud. The vamp sprang back on his feet and threw a punch at her. So many times she had done this, and it was predictable.
Buffy blocked and threw a counter punch, catching him in the face. She didn’t have time for this fight, now that she thought about it. Time to kick it into overdrive, she thought. She reached for her stake. This gave the vamp a chance to get a hit in. He caught her under the chin and jabbed at her ribs. Buffy took the blows and fought back even harder. She drop kicked him and grabbed him by the back of his hair and pulled him back. Instantly she plunged the stake into his chest. Vamp dust fell to the ground and Buffy smiled.
Buffy walked home just as the sun was beginning to come up. She was tired. As she was sliding underneath her covers the alarm clock went off. Buffy hit the OFF button and closed her eyes. She prayed silently for no more dreams that would haunt her thoughts. Unlike what she wanted, Buffy still had weird dreams...She found herself walking in an old warehouse. For some reason it felt as if she had been there before, then again she always had the feeling of deja vu. She walked down the pathway in the dark. Buffy looked over her shoulder. She wasn’t alone. A few more steps and she was in a large room. It was darker still in here, if that were possible. Buffy turned around. Okay, maybe she was a little paranoid.
She looked over in the corner. There was something bright shining. Buffy decided to check it out. She pulled back a tarp. The light was coming from a glowing orb. Buffy picked it up and held it in her hand. It didn’t seem to be harmful. She looked around again. Buffy opened her eyes. “Dammit,” she said. That day Buffy skipped her morning classes and walked around the town, looking for the warehouse that she had been in, in her dream. It took her a few hours, even though there wasn’t much town to the town of Sunnydale. She broke the lock on the fence and opened it slightly, just enough to squeeze through. Buffy made her through the warehouse as if she had just been there. Again with the deja vu. This time she walked quickly to the larger room. Buffy looked around for the orb. There in the corner, was the tarp. She almost ran to it, hoping to find the orb. She pulled it off from the floor. Nothing.
“Looking for something?” Buffy stood up and turned around.
Standing behind her was a girl. She was pretty, but she looked evil, thought Buffy.
“Maybe. Who are you?” The girl took a step closer.
“I was going to ask you the same thing.” Buffy came close as well, but kept her distance. “So, what are you looking for?” There was a playfulness to her voice, with a hint of sarcasm. Buffy kept an eye on here. “Probably the same thing you are. Look, I’m not one for small talk. I’m betting you’re evil. I hurt things that are evil.”
“A little thing like you?”
“Yeah.” Buffy rushed forward and threw a punch in her direction. This girl whoever she was dodged it and retaliated with her own punch, catching Buffy in the side of her face. It hurt, but what was a little punch to the Slayer? Buffy spun around, extending her leg as she did so, kicking her opponent. She flew threw the air. She stood up, and dusted her dress off. “Look what you did to my dress? Do you know how expensive dry cleaning is? Now I’m pissed.” Quickly she advanced towards Buffy, who made the journey a short one. The two fought in combat for what seemed like forever, trading blows and kicks. “I’m really getting tired of this, and you are really starting to piss me off,” she said.
“Well let me make it easy for you.” Buffy kicked her so hard that she flew once again into the air, further this time than the last. Buffy watched and then ran for the door. She was sure that this newcomer wasn’t going to be getting up soon. She had taken out one of the columns and it had collapsed on her.
“She was strong, Giles. We fought for a good half hour it seemed. She knew about the orb, though.” Buffy sat in a big cushiony chair. Giles paced back and forth.
“And you’re sure she was a demon?”
“She fought like one.”
“Not a vampire then?”
“I don’t think so, no. I would have sensed and she didn’t go all bumpy faced.” Giles stopped pacing and sat down at the round table. The Magic Box was still opened, but there were hardly any customers in the store. Once again, Anya was behind the counter. This time she wasn’t counting the money.
“Maybe it wasn’t a demon at all,” she said, throwing in her two cents. Buffy looked towards her.
“Then what could it be?” Anya walked around from behind the counter.
“A God?”
“Good lord.”
