Spike walked through the front door and slammed it closed. “Dawn!” He yelled, frantically.

Upstairs, Buffy jumped.

“It’s okay,” Dawn said. “He’s gunna kill me.”

Spike saw Dawn come down the stairs and slumped against the door. “Thank God,” he said.

Dawn came and stood in front of him. “I’m sorry,” she said, softly, with her liquid doe eyes.

Spike pushed himself upright. He wrapped his arms around her. “Never do that ever again,” he said, running his fingers through her hair. “If anything had happened to you, I don’t know what I’d do,” he said, pulling away to kiss her forehead. “Where did you go?”

Dawn’s eyes filled with tears. “Um…”

Spike frowned. “Hey,” he said. “Why are you crying?”

“I just don’t want you to be mad at me,” Dawn said, her hands on his chest.

“Why would…” Spike sniffed. “Nibblet, you smell like her.”

“I know,” Dawn said, looking down.

Buffy quietly went downstairs but paused at the scene in front of her.

Spike put his finger under Dawn’s chin. “Hey, its okay,” he said, gently. “You should get to bed.”

“I gotta tell you something, though,” Dawn said.

Spike frowned and then he noticed Buffy on the stairs. “Red patched up the bot real quick,” he said.

Buffy descended the stairs till he was right next to them.

Dawn looked back and forth between them. “Spike..”

Spike wasn’t paying attention, for her already know his mistake. His arms dropped from around Dawn. “What did you do?” He asked, not able to tear his eyes away from Buffy.

“It wasn’t me. I found her,” Dawn said.

Spike’s eyes traveled to Buffy’s hands. “We need to get that fixed,” he said, softly.

“I’ll get bandages,” Dawn said, disappearing into the kitchen.

Spike took Buffy’s hand gently and led her to the couch. Buffy sat on the couch and Spike sat across from her.

Spike held her hands in his and examined the damage. He looked up at her and the look in her eyes, broke his heart. “It’s okay,” he said, gently.

Buffy’s eyes filled with tears.

Spike’s own eyes began to fill with tears as he knelt in front of her. He wrapped his arms around her waist. “Please don’t cry, Buffy,” he whispered.

Buffy’s arms went around his neck and she sobbed on his shoulder.

Dawn came in and tears came to her eyes as well.

The front door opened and the gang came in. “Dawn?”

Dawn looked at them. “Quiet.”

Buffy and Spike ignored the people around them and just held each other.

Spike eventually calmed and rubbed calming circles on her back.

Dawn went over ands at next to them. “Spike?”

Spike lifted his face from Buffy’s hair. “Sorry,” he said.

He gently pushed Buffy away and smiled at her. “Gotta fix your hands,” he said, softly.

He took the stuffy from Dawn ad applied antiseptic to Buffy’s knuckles.

Buffy whimpered and flinched at the sting.

“Sorry, Pet,” he said, softly.

Spike finished cleaning her up and carefully applied the bandages.

He stayed across from her as the gang pounced on her.

“Are you okay?”

“Are you hungry?”

“Were you in hell?”

“Anya!”

“She’s probably hungry.”

“Pizza!”

“Stop,” came Buffy’s voice. Everyone looked at her. “Please just stop,” she whimpered, burying her face in her hands.

“Guys, back off,” Dawn said.

“Sorry Dawn,” they said, and gave Buffy some space.

Spike gently took Buffy’s hands away from her face. “Pet?”

Buffy looked at him with a frightened gaze. “Sorry,” she whimpered, tears in her eyes.

Spike sat on the couch next to her. “Don’t be,” he whispered.

Buffy sniffled and leaned against him. “I’m just confused.”

Spike wrapped his arms around her. “It’s okay. Just relax.”

“Spike, you’re probably making her uneasy. Maybe you should leave,” Xander said.
“No,” Buffy yelled, horrified, as she looked up at Spike. “No, don’t leave.”

“I wont,” he whispered. “Promise.”

Buffy relaxed against him and closed her eyes.

Dawn shooed the gang into the kitchen. “She’s tired and confused as well as scared. Back off and let her try to get back on her feet,” she said, quietly.

“Dawn she needs us, not Spike,” Xander said.

“She wants Spike around. He’s making her feel safe. And when we were running from the demons, I ran off on him to go find Buffy. So he’s had a rough night. Right now they both need sleep,” Dawn said.

She went back into the living room where vampire and slayer were sound asleep.

Spike was laying down with his back against the couch. Buffy was on her back with her legs bent. Her bent legs were slanted against his hips, and his left arm was thrown over her hip as he unconsciously stroked her ribs. Buffy’s arms was around his shoulders and his head was on her collar bone with his face buried in her neck. Buffy’s other hand was locked on his wrists on her waist.

Dawn smiled and turned off the lights before going back to the kitchen. “They’re sleeping. I’m going to bed so keep your voices down,” she said, going upstairs.

Spike peeked an eye open and smiled, as his Nibblet went upstairs.

When Buffy woke, Spike was awake and purring softly.

“Spike?” She mumbled.

“I’m here,” he said, running a finger over her ribs.

“Why didn’t you wake me up?” She asked.

“Didn’t have the heart to,” he answered.

Buffy ran her fingers through his hair. “Thanks for staying,” she whispered.

“Till the end of the world,” he said.

Dawn came downstairs. “Spike?”

Spike looked up. “Morning, Nibblet,” he said.

“I’m going to school,” she said, kissing them both good bye.

Buffy looked at Spike. “School?”

“Yeah,” Spike said.

“She hates school,” she said.

“I know, but she and I had a really long talk about what we were gunna do,” he said, softly.

Buffy snuggled closer to him. “Tell me everything I missed.”

Spike let out a ragged breath. “The first few weeks were really hard on all of us. Willow went to L.A. to tell Angel. I figured he’d at least come back with here, but no. I took Dawn home from the funeral and she wouldn’t even go upstairs. She cried herself to sleep almost every night. After about 2 months, she started to get better. Willow and Tara moved in, cuz Dawn need someone here with her when I couldn’t be. Even after that we weren’t far apart. We had to get the robot up and running so that everyone still thought you were alive. Dawn and I took it pretty hard. She didn’t wanna be anywhere near it. She spent most of her time with me at my place, so now its decorated to be teenage friendly. A week before school started, I told her no skipping. I told her if she got good grades, I’d give a little freedom. Never had to yell at her or punish her. She’s a good kid,” he said.

Buffy continued to run her fingers through his hair. “Sounds like you guys became pretty close,” she said.

“Yeah. She was all I had left and I wasn’t gunna let you down again,” he said, softly.

“Spike you didn’t let me down,” she said. “I’m proud of you.”

Spike lifted his head and looked at her questionably.

Buffy kissed him softly. “Thank you.”

“For what?” Spike asked, his eyes wide with wonder.

“Keeping her safe,” Buffy said, stoking his cheek.

Spike smiled. “I tried,” he said.

Buffy smiled then turned serious. “I gotta tell you something,” she said.

Spike’s brows drew together. “What?”

“I wasn’t in hell. I think I was in heaven,” she whispered.

Spike looked at her with an unreadable expression. “How do you know?”

“I was happy,” she said.

Spike settled back against her. “You gotta tell your friends,” he said.

Buffy shook her head. “I cant. Don’t want everyone telling me how sorry they are.”

Spike sighed. “Ok,” he said.

Buffy snuggled closer to him. “Thanks. Do you mind if I sleep some more?”

“Not at all,” Spike said.

Soon both vampire and slayer were sleeping.

Willow and Tara came down the stairs. “Buffy?”

They noticed Buffy and Spike still sleeping on the couch. Tara smiled at them and they went toward the kitchen.

About an hour later, Giles arrived.

Willow ran to keep him from waking Buffy and Spike.

“Buffy’s sleeping still,” Willow whispered.

Giles went into the living room and frowned at his slayer curled up with Spike.

Tara came out of the kitchen. “They both have had a rough coupla nights.”

Giles watched as Buffy snuggled closer to Spike. “Does she know who she’s laying with?”

“Yeah, She was very insistent about Spike staying,” Willow said.

Buffy stirred a few moments later and she looked over at Giles. “Giles,” she said, with a smile.

Carefully she eased herself from Spike’s grasp without waking him. She went over and hugged Giles.

Giles wrapped his arms around her. “This is remarkable.”

“Can I talk to you?” She asked.

“Of course,” he said.

“Guys don’t wake up Spike,” she said, going to the porch with her watcher. “Did you know why Willow brought me back?”

“No but I would have stopped her had I been here,” he said.

“Giles, she pulled me out of heaven,” she said.

He frowned. “Are you sure?”

Buffy nodded. “Could you not say anything? I told Spike but that’s it. I don’t want anyone else to know.”

Giles nodded. “I’m gunna look into the spell and make sure there are no side effects.”

“Thanks. It means a lot that you’re here,” she said.

“Can I ask why you were laying with Spike?” Giles asked.

“I feel safe,” she said, softly.

“Well just take it easy,” he said.

Buffy and Giles went back inside where Spike was still sound asleep on the couch.

Buffy smiled and slipped back into his arms. He unconsciously pulled her close to him and inhaled her scent. “Buffy..” he mumbled.

Buffy smiled and kissed his forehead

Giles watched as Buffy and Spike snuggled into each other and he went into the kitchen.

“Hey Giles,” Willow said. “Pretty cool huh?”

“You have no idea what you’ve done,” Giles said.

Willow frowned. “What?”

“You have no idea where she was or what happened to her.”

“She was in hell and I saved her from torture.”

Giles ignored and went back into the living room.

Buffy was running her hands through Spike’s hair with a smile.

Giles smiled and crouched beside them. “Do you need anything?”

“Is there blood in the fridge?” Buffy asked.

Giles disappeared into the kitchen and came back. “Yeah. He looks exhausted.”

Buffy smiled. “Dawn I wore him out. I
don’t mind though,” she said, softly.

“How did you do that?” Giles said.

“We scared him and surprised him,” she said.

“She’s lucky to have him around,” Giles said.

“Spike said she’s a good kid,” Buffy said.

“She was. She was always with him. She didn’t go with him on patrol and that was about it,” he said.

“Does Spike live here?” She asked.

“Only in the sense that he doesn’t leave. Dawn was with him a lot when the robot was fixed,” he said.

“At the crypt,” Buffy said.

“He always brought her home when she fell asleep,” he said.

Buffy leaned her head against Spike. “I guess I should keep him around then,” she said.

Giles smiled. “It’s up to you. Call me if you need anything,” he said, standing.

“Thanks,” she said, as her watcher left.

Spike stirred a few minutes later.

“Spike?” Buffy whispered.

“I’m here,” he mumbled.

Buffy smiled. “You hungry?”

Spike smiled back. “Yeah, but I’ll get it,” he said.

They both got up and went into the kitchen.

Buffy watched as Spike moved around her kitchen. “Giles said that you live here,” she said.

“Not really. Just never leave,” he said, heating up his blood.

“You know, you don’t have to change things just cuz I’m back. You cant still be here all the time,” she said.

Spike went over and lifted her gaze. “You sure?”

Buffy nodded and brought her hands up to his. “I like having you around. Dawns attached to you and I don’t wanna ruin that.”

Spike smiled. “Okay.”

Buffy jumped in his arms. “Thank you. Um…tonight you have to come with me to see if I’m still the slayer,” she said, pulling away.

Spike smiled and kissed her forehead. “I’m sure you are,” he said.

“What if I’m not?” Buffy asked, softly.

“Then you’re not. Not gunna change the way anyone feels,” he said, kissing her softly.

“Promise? I’m just gunna be and ordinary girl, Spike,” she said.

“That doesn’t mean anything. Ever since I first saw you I knew that you were the one. Even without slayer powers, I’ll still love you,” he said, kissing her softly.

“I’m glad you’re here,” she said, hugging him.

“I’ll always be here,” Spike said.

When the sunset, Buffy and Spike went patrolling.

After about 15minutes, and new fledging
arose.

Buffy staked it easily. “I guess I’m still the chosen one,” she said, smiling.

“You always will be,” Spike said, kissing her softly.
