Spike came out of the kitchen and frowned at Buffy. “Didn’t go well?”
“Why won’t you leave?” Buffy asked, leaning against the door.
“This is about Dawn,” Spike said. “So I’m not leaving.”
“Why do you care?” Buffy asked.
Hurt washed over Spike’s face.
“I’m sorry Spike. I didn’t mean that,” Buffy said. “I just can’t lose her.”
“And you won’t,” Spike said, going toward her.
“Spike, how can you fix this?” Buffy asked.
“I don’t know, Buffy,” Spike said. “But in the meantime do what the social services tells you. I’ll do the rest.”
“How do you plan on doing that?” Buffy asked.
“I had to take care of Dawn for 147 days. I know what I’m doing,” he said, running a hand over her hair.
“I think I’m gunna have to get a job,” Buffy said.
“You already have one,” Spike said. “If you need money, I’ll get money.”
“Spike, I don’t want you to steal from anyone,” she said.
“Have a little faith in me. I have a savings account in England and its just sitting there. You and Dawn need the money,” he said.
“Spike, I can’t take your money,” she said, leaning toward him a little.
“I can’t let you lose Dawn or the house, or make you get another job. You’re already dealing with too much so let me handle this,” he said, his hands resting on her hips.
“You’re not gunna give me a second option are you?” Buffy asked, her hands on his chest.
Spike shook his head.
“What do I have to give you in exchange?” Buffy asked, sliding her arms around his neck.
“Nothing,” Spike said, softly.
“Really?” Buffy asked. “What if I let you move in?”
Spike away from her. “Buffy?”
“Spike, I know I’ve been a right bitch to you, but I don’t want things to go on like they have been,” she said. “Please?”
Spike looked into her big green eyes. “It doesn’t take much, now does it?” He asked, kissing her forehead.
“So you will?” Buffy asked, hopefully.
“If you want,” Spike said, softly.
Buffy smiled and kissed him again. She reached into her pocket and pulled out his Zippo. “It was in my couch,” she said.
“I knew you had it,” Spike said, smiling.
Over the next couple weeks, the social services backed off. All of Spike’s money was transferred to Sunnydale and he began to help Buffy pay her bills.
He set a large some his money aside for Dawn. He also had some for Buffy to go back to school.
Buffy came home from school and threw her keys on the table. “Spike?”
Spike came downstairs. “You’re home,” he said, kissing her softly.
Buffy wrapped her arms around him. “And I’m exhausted,” she mumbled.
“Let’s get tired slayers to bed,” he said, scooping her up. He carried her up to their room and laid her down. “Get some sleep, Luv.”
Buffy smiled and closed her eyes. “Love you,” she whispered.
Spike smiled. “I love you too,” he said, leaving quietly.
