A.N./ Hey everybody. I was looking out the window on the way home from my grandparents going through what has happened over the past few months and I thought that this little expierience would make a good fic. Pretend that Buffy is 13 and moved from L.A. to Sunnydale at the begining of 8th grade. She's as far as you can get from being a socal butterfly but everyone there is nice so it's no big deal. She's been going to her new school for about a month and
decides to go to the boys volley-ball tournement to watch her team play, but guess where the tournement is: L.A. at her old school. She's been fighting with her best friend Riley since she moved and he's on the volley-ball team so she'll have to talk to him at some point. Buffy expects this to just be another random night watching volley-ball, but it ends up being a turning point in her new life.
"God Willow I'm so nervous!" said Buffy to her new best friend as they walked to their lockers.
"Relax, you'll be fine. You're meeting someone there right?"
"Yeah, Cordelia. We were best friends. Not that we aren't! It's just..."
"I know what you mean. I'll see you on Monday. Bye!"
"Bye," Buffy walked down the hall, her locker was in between Angel O'Connor and William Thornton who were both on the volley-ball team.
"Hey Angel," said Buffy opening her locker, "What time does the tournement start?"
"At four. We're heading over there now."
"Okay, thanks."
"You coming?" asked William.
"Yeah, I'll be there for six. Good luck!"
"HI BUFFY!"
"Hey Connor"said Buffy as he came up behind her. He always said hi to her reallly loud.
"Angel you're riding with me, Xander and my mom."
"K, see you there Buffy." Angel and Connor headed towards the front of the school.
"See you later William."
"Bye."
Buffy walked home trying to figure out who she was going to cheer for.
"Yeah Cordy I'll be there for six. Okay, bye." Buffy hung up the phone and went upstairs holding two colours of lipstick.
"Mom, which one of these should I where?"
"Honey, you're leaving in five minutes."
"AHHH!" Buffy ran back downstairs to her room and put on her make-up faster then she ever thought possible.
The fifteen minute ride back to the city was a quiet one.
"Sweetie, you really don't have to be nervous," said her mom as they approached the school.
"I just don't know how everyone is going to act around me."
"Well they may act different but it'll be okay. Oz will be there."
"Oz?" Buffy's face brightened at the mention of her second cousin...third cousin twice removed? Something like that. Her dad Rupert and Oz's dad Wesely were cousin so they were related, "I didn't know he was on the team!"
"We're here."
Buffy jumped out of the car.
"Have fun!" her mom drove away.
Buffy saw a girl run up to her and when she realized who it was she ran to meet her. When they reached each other they nearly fell over because of the hug.
"I can't beleive you're here!" squealed Cordy.
"I know! Um...where's the team?"
"They're over in the soccer field. You wanna go see them?"
"Okay."
They walked over to the soccer field. Buffy had known some of the guys on the team since kindergarden so she was expecting a few hellos.
Nothing.
The team headed back inside as they came over and none of them said anything.
'Do they even remember me?' wondered Buffy to herself.
"Buffy?" asked one of the players.
"Hey Forest!"
"Didn't you move?"
"Yeah I came to watch."
"Oh." Forest ran to catch up with the team.
"That was wierd."
"I guess not a lot of your friends were on the team."
"Wait a sec, where's Gunn? I didn't see him."
"Oh he had to quit the team. Hocky's gotten real intense this year. He says hi."
"At least someone remembers me." mumbled Buffy as they walked into the school.
"Buffy!"
"Oz hey!" she said walking over to her...I'm calling him cousin and his dad, "It's so good to see you. Hi Wesely."
"Hey, how are you?" asked Wesely.
"As well as can be expected. New schools: not always fun."
"Yeah," said Oz, "you make any new friends?"
"Some, everyone's really nice so it's okay. You and Devon still friends?"
"We're in different classes, but he's on the team so we're still good. You might want to watch your back. He wants to broom you."
"For what?"
"You moved."
"Oh great. I didn't want to! How many tomes do I have to say it? My parents bought the house when I was at Haarmony's. I didn't even see it until three weekd later!"
A.N./ F.Y.I. brooming someone is wacking them with a broom.
"Hey I'm on your side! I gotta go. See you later."
"Bye."
Oz walked into the gym leaving Buffy and Wesely.
"Who are you cheering for? We play your school the game after this one."
"I have no idea. My school I think."
"Understandable. You have to face them on Monday."
"Yeah," Buffy saw Riley walk out of the gym, "I'll see you later."
"Tell your dad I said hi."
"K." she walked over to her friend with Cordy in tow, "Hey."
"Hi."
"How are you?"
"Like you care."
"God you're impossible! I try to start a conversation like a decent person and you go nuts! I'm not even going to stick around to heat what you have to say next!" Buffy marched into the gym and Cordy followed.
When the Sunnydale team saw Buffy they all started yelling: HI BUFFY! and other greetings. It was nice that guys that had known her for less then a month gave her such a big hi when her old school hadn't even said a single hello.
"You should lighten up on him,"Cordy said as the sat down to watch their schools play.
"Why? It's his fault we're fighting! I told him when I was moving and he goes phsyco because he missed the day." said Buffy shocked her friend wasn't on her side.
"Still..."
"Just don't okay? Let's watch the game.
Buffy didn't take long to descide who to cheer for. Even though her team wasn't that good, her old school just plain sucked. Thye never even put Oz on so she had no reason to cheer for them. Riley wasn't put on either, but he really sucked so that wasn't a surprise.
Buffy's new school one both sets and she outside to get some sir.
She ended up walking to the elementary playground less then a field away(all the schools were close to each other) and she saw her old house across the field. The new people had completely changed it and it looked like crap. Like anyone would she got a bit teary.
Cordy and Riley came towards her, but not wanting to deal with that she walked a bit away. They didn't follow, but she heard Cordy say, "I'm worried about her she's different."
Buffy started walking back to the school when Cordy stopped her, "Why are you crying?"
"I'm not."
"Don't lie to me," Cordy's voice was so patronizingly soft it was almost enough to drive Buffy crazy.
"I just saw my old house and..."
Cordy pulled her into a hug before she could finish.
Barely hugging back Buffy thought, 'She is such a drama queen.'
Cordy stopped the hug and looked Buffy in the eye, "You've changed."
"So? It's what people do in life. Change for the better."
"Change isn't always a good thing! I'm worried about you."
Buffy was getting annoyed fast, "I'm me Cordy! I don't think I've changed so if I have just live with it!"
"Riley and I haven't seen you since the last day of school! You're different! We haven't seen you, you're a different person."
"I had a busy summer! My cousins came in from Vegas, and oh yeah I moved. If Riley and you have issues with me having a life that doesn't revolve around you then to bad."
"I don't but you need to talk to him."
"Why?"
Cordy put a strand of hair behind her ear, "You just do."
By now Buffy was just plain fed up, "No I don't."
Before Cordy could stop her, she ran back into the school.
Buffy went into the cafeteria. It was right beside the gym so the players could have a place to go when they weren't playing. The only people inside were Angel, William and Connor. The rest of the team was in the gym.
"Buffy what's wrong?" asked William.
"Nothing. What cha doin?'" she asked changing the subject.
"Marking our territory," said Connor with a smile.
"Huh?"
Connor grabbed a piece of chalk and wrote on the board: CONNOR WAS HERE
Then William took the chalk and wrote under it: SO WAS SPIKE
"Spike?"
"My real name's William but everyone calls me Spike."
"Okay then Spike."
Riley walked in and gave the guys dirty looks. They were all better looking then him and Buffy had never looked this comfortable with the guys when she had gone to the L.A. school.
"Buffy I..."
"I came in here to avoid you so could you leave?"
Riley shuffled out not wanting to cause a scene in front of total strangers.
"Who was that?" asked Spike.
"No one."
"Come on!" said Connor, "That didn't look like he was no one."
"Hey!" said Angel, "That was the hedge-hog!"
Buffy burst out laughing then suddenly stopped, "You guys can't ever tell anyone I did that!"
"We've been calling him that since last year. How do you know him?"
"We were best friends. He's just...he's been an ass since I moved."
"How so?"
"He's beensaying that my best friend is wreck because of me and that no one was ever really my friend, that I'm a selfish bitch, stuff like that. Why do you call him a hedge-hog?"
"Because he looks like one," said Spike, "did he make you cry??
She gave them a small nod.
"That fag!" said Angel, "You want us to beat him up for you?"
"No it's okay!"
"Oh come on we'll...."
Cordy walked in and took Buffy by the arm and led her out.
Buffy tried mouthing help but before the guys could she was out in the hall.
"Cordy I don't want to talk."
"Well we're going to!"
"Fine, I' sorry," but Buffy knew in her heart that she didn't mean it.
"Okay," she hugged Buffy again.
The guys came out of the cafeteria.
"Hey Buffy, who's your friend?" asked Connor.
"This is Cordy. Cordy this is Angel, Spike and Connor."
They guys nodded at her and Cordy gave them a small wave.
More of the team came out into the hall and they all started talking.
Angel looked at Buffy, asking if she was okay.
She smiled back and tried to make it seem like she was. Angel went back to talking to a guy named Nox, but he didn't seem to buy it.
They all started singing the song "I Love Beer",

andthen Nox dropped a quarter. Buffy, Nox and Xander all jumped on the ground in a heap to be the first to get it.
"I GOT IT!" shrieked Buffy holding it up in triumph. She smiled then tried to give it back to Nox.
"Keep it. It's just a quarter. But if I need to call someone I might need it back..."
"Okay." she and the team started walking towards the gym, then Cordy ran up and grabbed Buffy by the arm.
"Thanks for almost ditching me!"
"I thought you were with me," she looked back at the team as they went back into the gym. Connor was looking at Riley who was down the hall watching her. She shook her head and he went into the gym. Angel smiled and winked at her then went into the gym.
"Let's go watch some more."
After a bit, Buffy's old school lost another game meaning theey could all go home so Buffy walked Oz out. Her team was tring to climb a tree that was barely six feet tall by the road.
Oz and Wesely went to their car and Buffy saw that Riley and his parents were heading out side.
"BUFFY!" yelled Nox.
Buffy went over, "What's up?"
"Nothing, I just saw the hedge-hog coming your way."
Agaon Buffy started laughing at the name then stopped, "You guys can't ever tell anyone I did that.
"Okay boys huddle up!" called their coach. The boys all ran over and Buffy went back to the door when Riley stopped her.
"Why are you being so..."
"Don't Riley! I don't need this!"
"Oh I get it. Your boyfriends are all the big heros."
"They aren't my boyfriends!"
"Then just number 18."
"18?" she looked over at the guys, "Angel? Are you kidding me? He's my friend, he's been nice to me since I moved and he has a girlfriend!"
"Yeah you."
"No her name is Darla. She's a year older then us and she couldn't come because she couldn't get a ride."
"As if I saw him wink at you."
"That's Angel being Angel! He flirts with everybody," when she said 'everybody' she moved her arm to give it some effect and he grabbed her arm.
"DON'T TOUCH HER!" yelled Nox. The entire team was watching them now.
Riley looked shocked for a moment then looked back at Buffy.
"STAY AWAY FROM HER!" yelled Nox.
The whole team started yelling at him and Buffy smiled and started for the school, but Riley stopped her again.
"Just so you know, I really hate your school."
"Well then I guess that's your loss."
Riley walked away with a huff and Buffy limped up the steps the where Cordy was waiting.
"Did you hear them?" said Buffy with a smile.
"Hear them? I was trying to stop them! Did you see the look on Riley's face? He was ready to kill you!"
"Yeah, he's gone right?"
"Yeah..."
Buffy started howling in pain.
"What?"
"He kicked me!"
"WHAT?"
Cordy ran after Riley, but he was gone.
When they went back into the gym Cordy said, "Don't tell your team about the kick. As mad as we are I don't want Riley dead."
"Oh fine."
"So number 18..."
"He's not my boyfriend!"
"But he..."
"Angel flirst with everyome. He has a girlfriend."
"Alright." she said obviously not believing her.
"I mean it!"
"Riiiight. He is soooooo into you!" she waved at Angel who was on the stage watching the game. He waved back which she wasn't expecting.
"Told you he flirts with everyone."
When Buffy got home she had an email from Riley.
It said: I know you and 'Angel' are dating. You were into him and he was into you and you were loving it.
Buffy deleated the message without replying and went to bed.
The next Monday she went up to Nox at first break, "Nox, I wanted to thank you for what you did at the tournement. It meant a lot."
"No problem. He's a hedge-hog," he said just to make her laugh.
She went to her locker and thanked Angel who said, "That guy's a fag! He made you cry. What did you think I was going to do? Not do anything?"
From that point in time Buffy was way more confident in everything she did in her new school.
