Disclaimer: This is the part of fan-fic writting I *hate*. . . Buffy, Angel, Xander, Willow, etc belong to Mr. Grinch himself Joss Whedon, the WB Network, Mutant Enemy Productions and all the others. "A Christmas Carol" belongs to Charles Dickins. The book is confusing, but if you want a simpler version, watch "A Muppet Christmas Carol". 'N SYNC belongs to themselves(Justin, JC, Joey, Lance and Chris), and their songs, CD, etc are property of them and RCA. I'm just borrowing a few songs from "Home for Christmas". Hope you don't mind! Plus, Armegeddon doesn't belong to me either. It belongs to Touchstone Pictures, the director, the actors, the writers, etc. The lyrics from "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing" belong to Arrowsmith and the people who made the movie.
Notes: Oh yeah. . . this story takes place up to the. . . last 15-20 minutes of "Lovers Walk". Just say Cordelia and Oz didn't find Willow and Xander kissing, which means Cordy didn't fall, and everything's peachy with the slayerettes. And. . . Angel and Buffy are kinda *together*. Okay?. . .
"I love Christmas! The food. . . the presents. . . the two weeks off of school. . . " Xander Harris proclaimed as he, his three best friends and his girlfriend walked home for the holidays.
"Xander! It's not just about that! Christmas is. . . a time for love, to get reacquainted with family members, for giving. . . "
"How would you know, Willow? You're Jewish!" Cordelia Chase snapped at the red-haired hacker. "If you ask me, Christmas is great because: We don't have school, we don't have to spend time in the library, and we don't have to slay vampires or other demons!"
"Yeah, but they always come back around New Year's to snag a couple drunken partiers. . . " Buffy Summers mumbled, stuffing her hands into her jacket pockets.
"I take it around Christmas, you're the Scrooge of Slayers. " Oz quipped, putting an arm around Willow's shoulders.
"Ha-ha"
"So. . . what's everyone doing for the holidays this year?"
"You really have Christmas-Fever, haven't you, Will?" Buffy inquired, raising an eyebrow at her friend.
"I can't help it! I *love* Christmas! All the. . . yummy smells, and the decorating, and being able to see my family. . . "
"God, don't get me started on *family*!" proclaimed Cordelia. "This year, I'm stuck going to *Nebraska* to see my cousins. The middle of no-where, snow all around, and what's more-No malls! Not even a shoe shop!"
"Ooh. . . plannin' to do a little post-Christmas shopping for us, Hun?" Xander asked cheekily, putting on his trademark goofy grin.
Cordelia scoffed. "No! More like a little post-Christmas shopping for *me*! My aunt's a complete rip of! We gave her a satillite dish last year, and all I got was a crummy 10" TV! $100 bucks my butt!"
"Always thinking of yourself, huh Cordy?" Oz asked.
"Well, Nebraska *is* better than Sunnydale. No vamps, anyway. "
"Speaking of vampires, what do they do at Christmas? Do they have a little unholy Menorah, or do they burn a figure from the nativity scene everyday to countdown?. . . " Willow pondered. "What does Angel do?"
"Will, I don't think vamps celebrate Christmas. Not even Angel. " Buffy explained. "Isn't Christmas a religious holiday?"
* * *
At the mansion, Angel was putting the finishing touches on the tree he'd gotten when he heard a voice from the front.
"Hey. Wow, I guess I stand corrected! You *do* celebrate, or at least you decorate!" the figure said as she came through the hall to the main room.
"Buffy!" Angel gasped, spinning around and nearly knocking over the tree.
"No! I'm an elf from the North Pole disguised as Buffy Summers come to tell you which of Santa's lists you're on. . . " Buffy joked, wrapping her arms around the vampire neck and giving him a quick peck on the check, then looking at the gently swaying tree in awe.
"You are?" Buffy just looked at him and walked to the tree.
"Wow have you got free time. You've been busy since I was here Monday. " Angel chuckled and followed her, then he took her arm and lead her to the couch.
"Well, when I was back in Ireland, I always liked decorating for Christmas. I have more room here than in my apartment, so decided what the heck. "
Buffy took out a paper bag closed with red and green ribbon and handed it to him. "Here. Merry Christmas!"
"What is it?" Angel got his answer when he opened the bag and found. . . a stack of gingerbread cookies. He pulled one out and showed it to her, the yellow Smartie eyes and the little icing smile, fangs included, of the vampire-cookie promenent against the gingerbread. "I love Christmas, but not these. Even before, I wasn't too found of Gingerbread. "
"Oops! That's my present from Giles and the others. See?" Buffy took the bag and pulled out the other little figures: One with red icing hair, one with yellow and holding a cookie stake, one with brown hair, one with glasses, one with lighter red icing than the first, and one with no head. "I guess Xander-cookie's head fell off. Oh well. "
"Aren't they thoughtful?" Angel quipped. Buffy put the gingerbread slayerettes back in the bag, then pulled another one out of her backpack.
"Here. This is your present. " The vampire took it, read the little card attached this time, and opened it, producing several bags of blood. "See? I checked your supply before I left, and it was low. I even got AB positive! Your favorite!" Buffy looked at the blood that was being put back in the brown bag. "Look at me, I'm talking about *blood*. At *Christmas*. " Angel got up and walked to the tree, then bent down and went under it. "Angel! I'm sorry, I didn't mean to-"
Angel got back up, covered in little stray bits of tinsel, and carrying a gift-wrapped box. "Here. This is for you. I figured, I probably won't see you for the next few days, it being Christmas Eve and all, and decided to give it to you when you came over. "
Buffy took the box and looked it over. "Can I open it?"
"Sure. I don't see why not. I want to see what you think of it. . . " That's all Buffy needed to here. She tore off the wrapping paper and then held a velvet jeweler's case. She opened it, revealing a golden necklace. She open the small heart locket, and inside were the enscribed words,
"Every moment I spend with you"
"Is a moment I treasure"
"Forever and ever"
"The words are from that Armegeddon song you like so much. " Angel told her. Buffy smiled lovingly at the locket, then wrapped him up in a tight hug, kissing him hard on the lips. Angel was taken by surprise, but soon returned the kiss with passion of his own. The kiss grew and grew for a few minutes until Buffy broke it, still smiling.
"If you really want to make me happy, maybe we should do the animal cracker thing AJ and Grace were doing. . . " they both laughed softly, then kissed again.
"You've seen that movie too many times!" Angel said as Buffy started getting up and gathering her stuff.
"I know. I've got to go now. My dad's *supposedly* coming down tonight, and I want to be there when he does. Come over around 7, and we'll go to the Christmas party at the Bronze, 'kay?"
"Okay. " Angel agreed, handing her her jacket. Her *leather* jacket. *His old* leather jacket.
"Well. . . bye!" With that, Buffy waved, and left.
"Bye. " Angel called softly after her. Then he went back and finished putting the star up on the tree.
