Faith was oblivious to the world and at that moment she decided that was the way she liked it. Cranking up her loud music, sitting on her bed, it was perfect. Or at least enough so that she tricked herself into relying on the words from the speakers. Girls singing about empowerment, about not needing anyone, not caring about the opinions of others. That was Faith, wasn’t it? It had to be. She had changed sides and no amount of continual emptiness could draw her back to the other slayer. And then Faith thought about it, and angered boiled up inside her. Why the hell was she even playing this game. Why would she let that snotty, uptight little bitch get into her thoughts when she knew, (she had always known) that she was better. Stronger. She was a more resourceful slayer, and the mayor had seen it. And he was the one with power, everyone knew that. Even Buffy must know that somewhere in the back of her stupid consciousness… Faith realized that she had let her mind slip away, and these days if she wasn’t focusing on the perks in her apartment or about the upcoming ass kicking she planned to extract on her former “friends”, she felt alone. And not the kind of alone from her past. Not when she took care of herself and couldn’t care less. This type of alone felt a lot more tangible, and Faith had the sneaking suspision that those on the outside could almost begin to see it on her, following her. Faith shrugged it off, she knew that was one of her strengths and set her mind back to the lyrics, the angry girl rock that reminded her of a different day… And suddenly the music stopped. Faith, shocked, turned to see Buffy next to speaker and for the first time ever- Faith was afraid.
