Willow wasn’t used to behaving this way. Standing alone in a graveyard in Sunnydale was a good way to get yourself killed and eaten. Yet for some reason, there didn’t appear to be any undead gatecrashers this evening. She had an idea she might know why that was.
Perhaps she hoped she was right.
She stood at the foot of the grave, standing over the wreath of jasmine she had placed on the freshly-turned earth. The tears burning her eyes made it difficult to read the inscription, but that didn’t matter. The name on the gravestone didn’t mean anything to her, in any case. She had only ever known him as Oz.
She hadn’t liked the epitaph. It was too downbeat, too dismal. It wasn’t Oz’ style at all.
On the other hand, lying in a hole with two holes in his throat had never been his style before, either.
At first, Willow had been too distraught to think, almost even too distraught to breathe, when she had heard the news. She had fought with Buffy and Xander at the funeral, and had run home. Now, however, she was back. She’d had a thought.
Vampires always needed new recruits in Sunnydale, didn’t they? And wouldn’t they particularly prize one so well placed to hurt the slayer?
She had to hang on to that hope.
She didn’t know how she’d react when he came up; she didn’t know how he’d react to her. She couldn’t even be sure he would come, although she longed for it.
All she had to do to find out was stick around. Morning was still a few hours away.
