My thirteen year olf neice watches a show on Discover Kids called 'Strange Days at Blake Holsey High', known outside the US as 'Black Hole High'. I was babysitting when I noticed some things.

Her best female friend is the smartest girl in school and one of the shyest.
Corrine = Willow
Corrine is in love with a musician type.
Marshall = Oz
Josie, the main character, best male friend is secretly in love with her and hates her boyfriend.
Lucas = Xander
And to help them on their adventures is an older mentor.
