Notice me
Take my hand
Why are we
Strangers when
Our love is strong
Why carry on without me?

Buffy walked around the cold, dark, deserted streets of Dublin, Ireland, alone, with a stake in her jacket, just incase. It was raining, which was no real surprise for this time of year. She had become accustomed to the weather in Ireland since she relocated from the States after Sunnydale was destroyed. The gang and the potentials could handle any hell mouth threats that may arise in the United States, she was done, and she was the first slayer in history to retire. She earned it. Buffy deserved the chance to try to live a normal, happy life. Normal, happy life? Sounds like an impossible feat when it comes to vampire slayers.

She’s been in Ireland for a little over a year now, and she’s dated a few Irish men in the area but no matter how hard she tried, she could not get the man who owned her mind, body and soul, Angel. Angel was still in Los Angeles, or so she had heard from Willow when she visited Cleveland, OH, last Christmas. He had her number and her address and in the fifteen months she’s lived there, she hadn’t heard a word from him. Accept for the birthday present he sent her, a beautiful silver Celtic cross with her name ‘Buffy Anne Summers’ engraved on the back of it, followed by some words in Gaelic she never understood. There were people she knew that understood Gaelic but she never asked what it could mean, part of her didn’t want to know. She wore it all the time, replacing the cross he gave her when they first met those many years ago.

Everytime I try to fly
I fall without my wings
I feel so small
I guess I need you baby
and everytime I see you in my dreams
I see your face, it's haunting me
I guess I need you baby

He left her, he broke her heart when he left to leave for L.A. but she couldn’t get him out of her mind, no matter what she did. She understood why he left… there was no future for them together as a couple. He was a vampire, she was a vampire slayer, and they were destined to be doomed right from day one. They couldn’t resist each other, their souls were always one. Soul mates. They both knew it, and it tore Buffy apart. All she wanted was to be with him, anyway she could but it wasn’t meant to be that way. Not in this lifetime at least. Buffy continued to walk the streets when she heard a blood curling scream fill the air. Her slayer senses kicked in. She ran towards the scream as fast as she could. She turned the corner beside one of Dublin’s many pubs and sure enough, a helpless red-headed girl was being attacked by another blood sucking fiend. The vampire looked up from its meal and snarled at the blonde slayer, this was one pissed off vampire; it was just what Buffy needed to burn off some steam. Although she retired, she couldn’t just leave this girl to die, she was still a slayer at heart. Buffy just wished that she had someone to fight along side with like she used to do with Angel.

I make believe
That you are here
It's the only way
I see clear
What have I done
You seem to move on easy

The vampire went down easily, no real fight at all. This disappointed Buffy a lot. She needed a good fight, maybe there would be another vampire around she could fight. The girl that was attacked managed to get away frightened, not even saying thank you to the slayer. She was used to it; the only real thank you she got was from her fellow graduating students at Sunnydale High. She turned and walked down this new street, just to make sure this vampire wasn’t traveling in a pack. A young couple was sitting on a bench making out. Buffy cringed, the things she would give to just kiss Angel one more time, or to even look in his eyes. Those eyes or lips didn’t belong to her anymore; they belonged to his new love, Cordelia of all people! Buffy closed her eyes and turned away. She remembered the last time she seen Angel. Before leaving for Ireland, Buffy decided to go to LA to see Angel and let her know of her plans. She walked into his office and the scene before her was not something she never wanted to see. Cordelia was strattling Angel in his leather office chair with no top on and just wearing a racy black thong. Her Angel with… Cordelia! What got to her even more was hearing what came out of his mouth.

”I love you.”

He was in love with Cordelia, he knew he meant it. He could hear it in his voice. Buffy had been in relationships since being with Angel, even sexually, and she even said that she loved them, but she never really meant it. How could she when Angel still held her heart?

I may have made it rain
Please forgive me
My weakness caused you pain
And this song is my sorry

Buffy couldn’t take this anymore. She turned around and ran towards her small apartment on the eastern side of town just outside of a fairly large park. She made it half way through the park when she finally collapsed onto the wet grass. Sorrow, pain and anger raged through her body and was released through her tears. She needed Angel, more then ever before. Every inch of her was craving him in everyway. Nobody should spend their lives without their soul mates, but Buffy wasn’t just anybody. She wasn’t able to have the luxuries that a normal person has, she’s a vampire slayer. She wasn’t meant to live this long. Buffy gaze fell on the sky above her, the sun was rising. Day had come and thankfully she had the day off from work. There was no way she was going to be able to go into work, not in the state she was in. Once again, Angel was the cause of her downfall. She could not go on like this anymore.

She had to let him go.

At night I pray
That soon your face
Will fade away

Her small yet strong warrior hands reached up and pulled the Celtic cross from around her neck and threw it on the floor infront of her. The words once again caught her eyes. She lifted it up and ran her fingers across the angelic writing. She somehow knew what it meant…

“Do mo shonuachar,” a soft yet deep voice said from behind her, causing her to freeze, “it means ‘To my Soul mate’ “

Buffy shot around and her eyes widened. Standing before her, in the direct path of the almost glaring sunlight was the one man she loved more then life itself, Angel. Her Angel.

“Angel?” Buffy asked, her voice shaking in confusion, “how…”

Angel walked over to Buffy and cupped her face in his hands and kissed her passionately with all love he had within him. His lips were warm. Buffy put her hand on his chest like she always did, but this time something was different. She jumped away from Angel, breaking the kiss. He had a heart beat. This was impossible, there was no way a vampire could have a heart beat.

“How is this…”
“Possible?” Angel finished for her, receiving a confused nod in response, “You did this Buffy. When you defeated the First the Powers-To-Be granted the wish in your heart.”
“I wished to be with you… you’re human!”

None of this was making sense. Not one little bit.

“Buffy, the only way we could have been together was if I was a human, the Powers-To-Be knew this,” Angel inched closer to Buffy and kissed her passionately, “now we can be together until we’re both old and grey… as it should be. I love you, Buffy, marry me.”

Buffy couldn’t believe what she was hearing. Angel was human thanks to the powers to be. Angel’s humanity was her reward for everything she’s done for the world. Angel was proposing to her. They could be together how she always longed they could. They could start a family. They could be normal.
