The door of the crypt came flying open and Spike snapped his head up. He didn’t see anyone, and put his blood down.
Something, a ghost, he presumed, circled him as he stood in the middle of the crypt.. When it stopped in front of him, he raised his fist, but a small, feminine hand, wrapped around his fist tenderly.
“Spike, it’s me,” Buffy said, softly.
“Buffy?” Spike asked, dropping his fist. “What the hell happened to you, Pet?”
“I don’t know. I left the hair salon and this is what happened.” She guided his hands to her hips so she could hug him. “I’m so scared.”
Spike wrapped his arms around his invisible body. “Shhh. I’m here. We’ll figure this out.”
Tears flowed down Buffy’s face. “What if we don’t?” She whimpered.
“I don’t know. I’d love to tell you it’d be okay, but that’d be a lie. All I can tell you is I’ll be here, no matter what,” Spike said, stroking her hair.
Buffy squeezed him tighter. “I’m sorry, for this morning,” she whispered.
Spike kissed the top of her hair but didn’t say anything.
Buffy began to cry harder. “Spike,” she whimpered.
Spike scooped her up in his arms and took her downstairs. He sat with his back to the headboard and cradled her in his lap. He rocked her back and forth as she cried.
After a while, they fell asleep. Buffy was still curled in his lap and Spike held her tightly. Later, the door flew open, startling Buffy and Spike awake.
Xander came downstairs. “Spike?”
“Harris, what are you doing here?” Spike asked, as Buffy got out of bed.
“We got a problem. Have you seen Buffy?” Xander asked.
“I’m here, Xand,” Buffy said, putting her hand on Xander’s arm.
“What are you doing here?” Xander asked.
“I feel safe here. I was scared. Dawn has the number if you find anything,” Buffy said. “I don’t think it’s a good idea for me to go home and creep
Dawn out.”
“Okay. Willow’s doing research too. She found your phantom van,” Xander said.
“I hope she’s careful. If they’re the ones doing this, who knows what they’ll do to Willow,” Buffy said.
“I’m going back to the magic box. I’ll see ya later Buff,” Xander said, leaving.
“You okay, Pet?” Spike asked, not entirely sure of her location.
Buffy smiled and climbed back in bed with him. “I think I’m okay. You don’t mind if I hang out with you until I’m visible again?”
Spike put his hand on her face. “You can stay as long as you want. You know that.”
Buffy smiled and kissed him. Even though Spike couldn’t see her, he could feel something else in her kiss.
For the next several hours, Buffy and Spike kissed on his bed. It was the ring of the phone, that made them break apart.
Buffy answered it. “Hello?”
“Buffy, you need to go to the arcade and get Willow. Maybe whoever has her, knows how to fix you.”
“Thanks, Xand. Bye,” Buffy said, and hung up.
“Spike, Willow’s in trouble. I gotta go. Wanna watch me kick some ass?” Buffy asked, hopefully.
“Always,” Spike said.
Soon, Buff was at the arcade, fighting invisible people, while Spike and Willow tried to keep track.
Willow picked up the ray and turned all four people visible again.
Buffy looked at her attackers. “What the hell is going on here?”
“We’re your new enemies, slayer,” Warren said.
“Every time you turn around, we’ll be there,” Jonathon said, and they were gone.
Spike noticed Buffy’s hair. “Pet, that’s a nice style you got there.”
Buffy smiled. “Thanks.” To Willow she said, “You okay?”
“Yeah. Thanks guys,” Willow said.
“Come on, lets go home,” Buffy said, grabbing Spike’s hand.
At the house, Buffy was hit with twenty questions about her invisibility and about Spike.
“Quiet!” Buffy yelled. “I’m fine. We’ll get the nerds later. I’m exhausted. Spike and I are going to bed.” She pulled Spike to her room.
Buffy slept fitfully in Spike’s arms and Spike watched his goddess sleep.
