| Interesting take on how Spike views his suffering - very similar to season seven where Spike just accepted the First's tormenting as part of his 'punishment' for asking for a soul. Cosidering how often he gets pushed around it makes you wonder if Spike (or William) has ever trully been happy.
But I like how you have worked on Buffy so that she rescues him - credibly - a difficult thing when in the series at that point she was (and this is just in general) a total and utter underwritten creep. |

Very interesting take on the events of seeing red. I always had a problem with how Buffy viewed the incident - as it was ok for her to barge in, beat Spike up and then basically take him forcefully. In the past when Buffy had said no she actually meant yes. How was Spike to know this time was different?
She basically used and abused him, but because he loved her he put up with it.
Not that this excuses Spike's actions. Once he realised that Buffy was actually saying no for real he should have stopped. But because she had cried wolf too often he didn't click until it was too late - and of course the whole soul thing.
And then she goes around and tells everyone that he tried to rape her - so naturally, not knowing the abusive nature of Spike/Buffy's relationship they are very very upset and even crueler to Spike than before.
Which I always found ironic, as even though he was a soulless demon he showed more humanity and compassion to the Scoobies than they ever did to him.
But I like how you have shown, unlike the show, that while rape is never acceptable, it was a very complicated situation.
Author's Response: very well put; i agree with you completely on all points :) |

| How horrible - for Spike I mean, not the story. I really like the way you are progressing with this. I have read Chain and Unleashed, but I think setting after seeing red will add a very interesting twist. |

| okay. I love this, You got completely hooked. The Xander/Buffy moments are really cute, 'cause even if i haven't thought about it till now, Xander is the only guy who never hurt her. So adorable. Even so, I gotta say I'm more of a Spike fan. So please, make something/someone hit Warren really hard in the head, please? |

| Amazing. I love how you've set this story up. The Xander&Buffy scene was touching, and Spike's and Buffy's thoughts are very well written. |

| I always like fics about Seeing Red. Its a great episode that has so much potential for charatcer study. Your portrayal of Spike and Buffy is both sensitive but appropriately dramatic, a difficult achievement. I'm definitely interested in the Spike backstory... :) |
